Peter Moore gets grilled ... by Space Ghost

We weren't the only ones to get an interview with Peter Moore at E3. Space Ghost was asking "the hard questions" at the GameTap booth during E3 (hint: Turner owns GameTap and Cartoon Network). Hear Peter's responses to SG's ideas for a dermatology game for teens, listen to him talk some serious trash on Sony, and then watch him drop it like it's hot (seriously). If you didn't think Peter Moore was a good sport before ...

That was the funniest thing I've seen on YouTube in a while! Peter Moore dancing ftw
Gnomicide @ May 15th 2006 8:46PM
Proof that anything funny can be ruined by loud laughter.
I think I've been really spoiled by cartoons. Even episodes of Coupling I used to like now seem lame.
SLy @ May 15th 2006 8:49PM
So they are now copying Nintendo. You know.. trying to be all laid back and that. Ha!
But, seriously. I now have a bit more respect for Peter. Hokey Pokey FTW!
Psykoboy2 @ May 15th 2006 8:49PM
That. was. awesome.

The "interview" was funny but Peter's comments immediately made me think of classic Microsoft anti-competitive behaviour. Substitute the word "Sony" with "Netscape" in the interview and tell me you don't find it creepy. At the very least it was unprofessional, check the interview with Nintendo's Perrin for some brass with class.
Whoever claims MS has changed is full of it.
MosquitoControl @ May 15th 2006 9:08PM
Disagreed Moron.
He's having fun, he's playing it competitive like a game, and he's willing to make fun of his own team as well.

Microsoft now has a camera coming out for their system. I wonder who that got that idea from. . .
Oh yeah, something about Gyroscopic technology- http://v3.espacenet.com/textdoc?DB=EPODOC&IDX=JP11099284&F=0&QPN=JP11099284
Apparently, Sony invented a time machine so that their PR people could make a patent for the PS3 controller in 1999.
All this cause Nintendo was the "first" ones to think of a controller that detects motion. I love the internet.
xX_Pc_Xx @ May 15th 2006 9:26PM
Sony rocks and is still on top so i really dont care how unprofessional they make themselves look !! :)

And when im talking about unprofessionalism.....im talkin about xbox !! in response to # 5

How more obvious could it be that he used to work for Sega.
Heh.. now THERE was a company that knew how to have a pissing contest. I remember when some Sony execs were having a golf game, and Sega arranged to have all the golf balls replaced with ones that had little Dreamcast logos emblazoned on them, and then had a plane fly overhead waving a Dreamcast banner behind it.
If you think these Sony and Microsoft are bad, take a look at how rival politicians talk about each other. It's nasty, childish and not funny in the slightest.
The way I see it, if you can slag off your competition in an entertaining way, be my guest. And THAT was entertaining. Go Peter! Go Peter!
I wonder if he does bachelor parties?
GlitchCog @ May 15th 2006 9:35PM
I'm not sure if he was getting enough oxygen there.
Ahms @ May 15th 2006 10:00PM

That was great those microsoft guys seem to have a good sense of humor.
I'd like to see Jobs ever do anything like that.

What electronic doesn't have a camera built into it now-a-days? I just hope Microsoft puts it to better use than Sony has.

I'm not going to say who was first, but I will say that Nintendo is doing it 10x better than SONY.
Yep, I hate you.

Re #8: So, overly broad patents equal innovation? Nintendo wasn't the first to think of motion controlled gaming, you're right. But neither was Sony. Take the MICROSOFT SideWinder Freestyle Pro game controller, for example - I can't find a release date, but it's AT LEAST 5 years old based on driver release dates. Not quite as old as that patent, but it's worth a hell of a lot more than a vague description and a circuit diagram.
Even IF that patent were absolutely the first mention of motion-controlled gaming, it doesn't explain why Sony:
a) Waited 7 years after the patent to introduce the feature
b) Originally called the Wii controller a gimmick
c) Only implemented motion control in the PS3 controller AFTER realizing how popular the idea is
As for the camera, Sony neither invented the webcam nor the idea of using it for motion controlled games. If you're going to complain about Nintendo fans inaccurately crediting Nintendo with innovation, please make an attempt to get your information straight.
I can agree with you that Nintendo isn't as innovative as many people think they are. Microsoft has taken their fair share of ideas from others. But in terms of ripping people off, Sony is by far the worst. Patent or not, it's painfully obvious that they added motion control at the last minute to try to combat the popularity of the Wii. They ripped off the guide button from the 360, and are grudgingly working on a poor rip off of Live.
ManekiNeko @ May 16th 2006 3:30AM
I take it none of you remember the Power Glove, the original motion-sensitive game controller?

what an idiotic statement. all this comment shows is ignorance and an unreasonable anti-sony bias.
for one thing, microsoft "stole" everything they DO in the video games industry from other companies.. only i don't call it stole, as i'm not naive enough to expect every company to not use something that works just for the sake of originality.
also, it'spainfully obvious that you know nothing whatsoever about product development. Sony didn't just slap this controller together in the past couple of weeks. they've been going through the process of designing, icensing, revamping, building, manufacturing, and testing this product for what is most likely WELL over a year (when the the "Revolution" was even first introduced -- sans controller, mind you), and they've probably been drawing up the most useful way to implement the technology into a controller since around the time they got the patent.
as far as the "rip-off of the live guide button" goes, we don't even know whether the jewel-like PlayStation family logo in the center of the PS3 controller has functionality as a button yet. if it does, then hey.. Microsoft has invented a new button on the standard controller that will probably be implemented for years to come. go them.
as for calling the Wii a gimmick.. well, so far it hasn't proved to be MUCH else. i'm not saying i won't get one, but i will say that it will NEVER be my primary console. i think it's silly of Nintendo to base the entire system around an admittedly innovative but potentially limiting controller. the tilt sensing in the PS3 controller i like.. not because i am a Sony fanboy by any means, but because it acts more like an added control or button than as the basis for the entire controller.
so please.. give it a rest.
SLy @ May 16th 2006 9:56AM
It takes a year to add Kirby tilt and tumble functionality to the PS3...err ok.
Gameboy FTW!, I suppose.
Staticneuron @ May 16th 2006 11:21AM
Rare Hare, Very well said. No one is debating how well the nintendo controller will be just the fact of people screaming that Sony stole the "idea" which obviously wasn't true.
I enjoyed Mr. Moores convo with space ghost. I find Peter moore to have an awesome personality. My big wish is for the 360 to step to the plate in more genre's of games as the execs have already proved to me that they are really excited about making the games.
"I take it none of you remember the Power Glove, the original motion-sensitive game controller?"
1977 Atari 2600 Le Stick Joystick - the original motion-sensitive game controller
BTW, people stop complaining about companies stealing other companies ideas. Because chances are the idea has been thought up before and attemted to be implemented. People will only really remember the most succesfull endeavors but just because it was more successful does not make it "original". So to all the 360, ps3 and wii fanboys who are trying to argue who invented what.. let it go. Please.
SuicideNinja @ May 16th 2006 12:55PM
"Stealing" is the wrong term for the situation.
The point "the upset" are trying to make is that the only reason Sony put basic motion sensing capabilities into their controller is because of Nintendo. Neither company created nor "stole" the ideas. The ideas have been around, and should be considered "available technology." Both companies are trying to work these technologies into the current generation successfully.
The notable difference between the Dual-XXXXX controller and the Wii-remote is that the Nintendo remote is using a collection of the motion-sensing technologies in attempt to move forward with the gaming experience. Sony on the other hand, is just adding a primitive part of that collection to their 3-generation old controller in order to say, "We have it, too." That's what is upsetting, not the misinterpreted "stealing" concept.
MrFluffy @ May 16th 2006 1:13PM
Hare, I don't see how you can still call the Wii controller a gimmick yet call the shitty 6 degree Sony rip-off "an added control."
With the Wii, you get all the buttons, the joystick numchuk AND two different motion sensors. If that doesn't count as an "Added Control", I don't know what does.
Art Guy @ May 16th 2006 1:24PM

Rare Hare wrote - "Sony didn't just slap this controller together in the past couple of weeks... this product [has been in development] for what is most likely WELL over a year"
For something that has been in development for at least a year, I find it odd that the only game to use this feature is Warhawk, and no other developer had anything to show.
I also find it very disconcerting that Incog (the Warhawk developer) was only told about the controller a week and a half before E3. A week and a half.
Regardless of the truth of the matter, I fail to see how these facts don't make it look like it was thrown together at the very last moment.
NovaGamer @ May 16th 2006 4:20PM
nintendo was doing gyroscopic stuff back with the gameboy color and pokemon pinball...doesnt anyone remember that?...i figure why fight about who does it first?...as long as they both do it right and its all just not a gimic....agreed?

"what an idiotic statement."
are you the same Rare Hare who also spewed out this completely blind speculation at 12:08PM on Feb 4th 2006?:
"ok, for those of you saying for sure that the PS3 will cost 600 dollars and that the Rev will cost 200.. do everyone a favor and shut your mouths until you have a clue what you're talking about.
i highly doubt that the PS3 will be anywhere over $500, and that the Rev will be anywhere under $300. they'll most likely be on par with the 360 prices.
i'm just sick of the completely blind speculation some of you spew out."
just sayin'. sup, dude.
