Spielberg of gaming and Spielberg of movies play Wii

The AP managed to snap some shots of Shigeru Miyamoto -- often called the Spielberg of video games -- and Steven Spielberg -- the, uh, Spielberg of movies -- playing a quick round of tennis in LA last week, as celebrities are wont to do. Couple things though: they played using Nintendo's new Wii console, and they did it in amidst the frenzy of E3.
Really wish we got in there for this although, judging by the relatively empty space behind them, it appears Nintendo had these VIPs isolated from the unwashed masses. That reminds me, things to do before I die: play a Nintendo game with Shigeru Miyamoto.

It's good to play together.
Dan @ May 15th 2006 10:46PM
Interesting. I wonder what was Spielberg's impressions of the Wii?
Kickee @ May 15th 2006 10:47PM
who won?
huh @ May 15th 2006 10:47PM
How do all these celebrities get into E3? I thought it was a trade show for people within the industry.
Or is Spielberg direction an up-coming video game to movie adaption, and needed E3 to give him some innovative ideas lol.
Like that PMS clan going to E3. What makes them so special? Which clan do I need to join to get a free ticket to E3? Maybe if I pretend im a girl and join the clan I can get in for next years event
C. Grant @ May 15th 2006 10:52PM
huh, are you serious? Do you really not know why professional clan members and the most famous filmmaker in the world got into E3?
Kris Aubuchon @ May 15th 2006 10:52PM
Well huh, I'm glad that there was a decent group to actually represent female gamers - I'm glad the demographic is increasing.
Playing a game with Miyamoto would be an amazing story to have for the rest of your life. That's one to pass down to the grandchildren while they are finally playing Mario 128.

WIN!

Miyamoto, FTW!

This might have something to do with why Spielberg was there:

Well, I think I'll add "Play a video game against Miyamoto" to my list as well. That would be awesome.

playing a game against/with Miyamoto would be the ultimate.

ok that explains Speilberg, but still not PMS clan.
Heraclio @ May 15th 2006 11:35PM
Playing a game with Spielberg. Meet a celebrity AND revel in the taste of victory!
CelestKixy @ May 15th 2006 11:36PM
I still think it's bull that those chicks form a clan called 'PMS' and it's an all girl thing. That's just a cheap trick, and it actually demeans women players, it doesn't 'empower' them, or whatever it is they think they're doing. It's a gimmick.
dan @ May 15th 2006 11:39PM
I think you should have referred to him as the "Spielberg of Spielbergs."
That's all I've got, really.
Now.
*!!FANBOYGASM!!*
Sorry, just couldn't help myself.
Tsukasa K. @ May 16th 2006 12:12AM
I will now ask a possibly dumb question.
Aren't the wii remotes supposed to be wireless, or are they just tied down for E3? (Wouldnt want a sneaky fanboy running off with one...)
Every picture i've seen so far (And during the zelda demo at nintendo's press breifing) seemed to have the controller wired to something else besides the nunchuck.
JoshG @ May 16th 2006 12:31AM
Yeah, they're wireless. They were just tethered to keep them from being stolen. So... yeah, dumb question. lol
MetaHuman @ May 16th 2006 12:34AM
Miyamoto knows both Spielburg and George Lucas (they first met at Skywalker Ranch!), so maybe they can all get together and formulate some kind of movie with daring adventure and humorous situations. I call it: Legend of Zelda: Episode VII -- The Temple of Doom!
Harrison Ford is penned to play Lindianak Jonesalker.
ill trooper @ May 16th 2006 12:38AM
Nice busting out of the little-used adjective 'wont.' Yes I'm being serious.
Dag, Miyamoto looks like a little elf. And Spielberg is rocking a mean swing there!

Miyamoto.. ompared to Speilberg.. I saw AI and War of the Worlds.. and that's just insulting to Miyamoto.

Arent the PMS clan some sort of Ubisoft marketing ploy? Could explain they're existance at E3...

I hope you're right. I really do. Because the whole "PMS" (pretty much $hitty) clan was my second largest annoyance of E3, right behind Paris Hilton..and the mere fact that it was as close as it was between the two for being most annoying really says something. One look at those so-called "gamer girls" tells me they're nothing but hired faces to make women cheer for an increasing demographic...oops...no offense to the person in this thread who bit into the whole plot. I'm not a judgemental person, so I try to give the benefit of the doubt to people...but after hearing them talk on TV and on the Xbox Live trailers, I have to say that the only games those girls have played might be Pac-man...MAYBE. It'd be nice to see their little group go up against my clan on..oh..say..Battlefield 2 on X360. Can you say "Pwn3d?" As a side note though, I really would like to see some TRUE gamer girls appearing at E3..and not to be pointed out like a sore thumb. That just means they'd be there for attention. I'd like to see the female demographic, if you will, make a showing and genuinely be interested in the games and hardware presented, as opposed to trying to execute some sort of E3 takeover. And I also agree with Celest when she basically said that forming an all-girl clan and naming it PMS is nothing more than a gimmick and serves to be counterproductive for garnering respect for female gamers. Now, show me a girl clan with a name that's respectable and not in-your-face retarded, formed of girls who actually know what games they want to play instead of running around like paid-off PR reps for certain titles and sounding like total airheads, and I will have NOTHING but respect for them and enjoy listening to what they have to say. But listening to those girls talk this year was like listening to nails on a chalkboard.
King @ May 16th 2006 10:23AM
You're a dumbass Ethan Thomas....
PMS has been around for years and they play lots of FPS. Athena is an avid gamer and I've played them in Halo, RS3, RS3:Black Arrow, GRAW and a lot of them are pretty good.
King @ May 16th 2006 10:25AM
The frag dolls are with UBIsoft...not PMS
ThePMS-PMSers @ May 16th 2006 10:29AM
Hey #27 and the others dissing the PMS clan. They've been pivotal in the gaming community since 1996. Don't knock them because you're jealous that you didn't get your e3 pass. Lamers!
gomora @ May 16th 2006 10:47AM
how bout Miyamoto of movies. the nerve of this blog stephen directs movies. he doesntt write them. anyway there two different people and i can never uderstand why directors get so much good pr. they dont do much. honestly
huh @ May 16th 2006 11:16AM
#30, thats what we are knocking. Why did they get a E3 pass? Why does that clan get an E3 pass and other clans don't? Microsoft is using them as a marketing ploy because they are female, wiether they want to believe that or not. Accepting such an E3 pass is disrespecting your own clan.
their controllers are wired down @ May 16th 2006 11:18AM
Poor guys had to deal with the controllers being wired down. When I played Wii Tennis at E3 the controllers were cordless, even though I was playing amongst the unwashed masses. The woman running the demo said that that station was about the only one that was cordless. I figured the VIPs would have access to cordless stations though.
h0stile @ May 16th 2006 11:18AM
"They've been pivotal in the gaming community since 1996"
hahahaha.......a bit of research will do you good...lets see....March 11, 2005, a quote from the official press release from Joystick Junkies (handling PR for them):
"Did That Grenade Mess Up My Hair?
PMS Clan, the world's largest community of girl gamers, launches their first official pro-tournament season this weekend at MLG Houston in Texas, USA.
Counting over 150 girls across the USA and Europe, PMS community has grown fast since its launch at the beginning of XBOX LIVE. With the addition of a large PS2 team and brand new PC division in 2004, they are now the first and largest multi-platform female gaming clan."
1996? Xbox live launch took place on 15 november 2002 if i remember correctly, so do not throw numbers at us without knowing the hard facts. if they've been together from 1996, no problem, but they were unknown. in either case, saying their contribution was "pivotal" to the gaming community is just lame. don't get me wrong. i have nothing against any clan. i don't care about it since i don't own an xbox, but, i'm good with facts and news and it's just killing me when i see someone spreading lies to everyone else out there. just my 2c!
Cosmo @ May 16th 2006 11:40AM
How about keep it the "Miyamoto" of games and the "Spielberg" of movies.

I'm a dumbass? Hmm..to defend myself against a juvenile comment from someone who obviously doesn't have the intellect to comment in a non-condescending manner...or to just let it lie and not waste my time? I'll choose the latter.
As far as dissing PMS because I didn't get an E3 pass, um..no. I wouldn't want to be at E3. Too many people, ridiculous prices, long lines, etc. Just because I'm not a sucker for a marketing gimmick that anyone with half a brain can see through doesn't make me jealous of anyone, least of all some no-talent, attention-starved all-girl clan. If you want to bring in pivotal/respected clans, where's Team STK? Oh wait. That would be a clan of guys and that just won't do. Face it people, there's a reason PMS did Xbox Live trailers, got plastered all over TV, and got more overhyped than Driv3r before it released. And that reason is, quite simply, because they are a cheap marketing GIMMICK designed solely to make the female demographic feel represented. It's sad that they are so POORLY represented, however.
As far as this whole stupid PMS thing goes, personally, I don't care how long they've been together or what games they play. I don't have any respect for some group of "boppers" that would label themselves with a gimmick name just to try and bring support to themselves through doing so. I also don't feel their snobby attitude is representative of the female gaming community. I know plenty of women who play games that can actually carry on a conversation and would never want to be part of a group of people walking around in pink shirts that say "PMS clan" on them...it's overkill, juvenile, and just doesn't garner respect. Agree, disagree. Your option. As is spewing off further insults at me in order to continue to show us all your ineptitude at making statements to be considered serious in any way, shape, or form.
Matters @ May 16th 2006 12:28PM
That's funny because I remember the PMS clan from way back in the early Quake days. I'm about 99% sure they didn't get their start with Halo unless this clan stole the name from a long dead PMS clan, but I doubt it.
There was also a few other popular girl clans from back then that wouldn't surprise me a bit if they got in to E3.
A lot of those girls knew people in the business and could easily get passes. A lot of them are even IN the business (or were?). Remember killcreek or what ever her name was? And quite a few of them have game related sites or are prof. gamers.
None of this surprises me at all. It's not a big deal. It happens. It's been happening. This is nothing new.
Matters @ May 16th 2006 12:43PM
A lot of these girls have been around since the early days of sites like Shacknews and bluesnews and Planetquake. They're all friends or know each other and most of them are friends with developers and other major gaming sites. A lot of them ran or run gaming sites. Some of them work for game companies. Some of these people were friends and gaming together long before they went off and started gaming companies like Ritual. Some of them helped run big lan parties like Quake Con. The point is they ARE in the business. They aren't just a fucking clan of girls that formed yesterday. They've been around. They do things. They know people. They're in the business. Hate to break your heart.
I mean seriously what is the big fucking deal?
Who do you know?
Your just a jealous punk.
Matters @ May 16th 2006 12:44PM
I mean You're. and instead of jealous punk (heat of the moment) I should probably just say.. You're a newb.
Ethan Thomas @ May 16th 2006 5:35PM

"Jealous punk"?..guess you opted for the last option in my last post. I'd expect no less. But hey, it's alright. In the end, it's not like your opinion "Matters." (couldn't help it..just too easy)
