New Rayman trailer, artwork boggles the mind
At their E3 booth, Ubisoft ran various clips related to its latest Rayman title, Raving Rabbids. The clips -- showing, among other things, a Rabbit reading the newspaper on a toilet -- did little to show gameplay, but vividly expressed the humor involved in the new title. The official, Wii-centric teaser trailer and artwork furthers the insanity. The trailer (which you can view by clicking on "Continue reading" below) falls somewhere between a Tim Burton film and Wallace & Gromit: a shaggy-haired kid, a super-goth girl, and a grandfather are being assaulted by lasers coming out of the TV screen. Only by wildly shaking the Wiimote can we ever hope to defeat the marauding bunnies and their giant mecha-bunny leaders.
Raving Rabbids is expected to be a Wii launch title, but is also coming out many current- and next-gen consoles.

wow, that game looks fun, even without the wiimote. Rayman has always been a great game, and it looks to be getting better.
Rayman is on my ever growing list of must have games for the Wii.
Delam @ May 16th 2006 5:42PM
that was awesome I love ubi
Ryan @ May 16th 2006 5:49PM
That looks hilarious! Bring it.
Simon @ May 16th 2006 5:52PM
Hahahaha, oh man does that look cool.
Staticneuron @ May 16th 2006 6:06PM
That looks amazing. Adding to list of titles to get.
courtney @ May 16th 2006 6:08PM
really, that did looks really fun
Dallas @ May 16th 2006 6:18PM
If that game doesn't have a "old man dancing" minigame, then that will be blatant false advertisement.
Gavin @ May 16th 2006 6:29PM
Looks like most Americans would be completely worn out from about five minutes of that kind of required physical interaction.
Tom B. @ May 16th 2006 6:35PM
Cool. I like the silly goth girl. But instead of jumping up and shouting "Yes!" since it's a French game shouldn't she shout...
Ah, nevermind.
Andrew Hsieh @ May 16th 2006 6:35PM
@Gavin: It's sad because it's true.
Po0py @ May 16th 2006 6:35PM
My only problem with this advert is that I can't tell if that punk kid is a girl or a boy.
Disturbing.
Cowlix @ May 16th 2006 6:57PM
Is the controller-passing an actual part of the gameplay? If it is, my intrigue of this game just skyrocketed.
LongshotX @ May 16th 2006 6:57PM
It's a Japanese. Po0py.
EJFLEX @ May 16th 2006 7:08PM
Gavin... I hear you man... It always makes me laugh.. when people are complaining about the possibility of their arms getting tired from the wiimote. I'm like "Are you kidding me?" Hit the gym or something for gods sakes. Too much Micky D's and Doughnuts for this country.
Aran @ May 16th 2006 7:14PM
Ha ha, great trailer! :D
I hope most of the Wii game trailers are like this: not just boring in-game video but it also shows how you play it. I like it, I like it a lot. :)
robotplague @ May 16th 2006 7:18PM
I want this.
Aaron @ May 16th 2006 7:32PM
Hahaha, that was the best trailer ever! Very well done.
funkonaut @ May 16th 2006 7:40PM
If the game really looks like that, I'm sold.
Stephen @ May 16th 2006 7:48PM
Lol @ #8, xD.
Sean @ May 16th 2006 8:28PM
I won't be able to play for 8 hours straight! I didn't get this catheter and IV installed for nothing!
Jonathan Harford @ May 16th 2006 8:34PM
People thought that was a good trailer? It was almost as bad as the 1980 rapping Legend of Zelda commercial! ("Awesome." "Intense!")
"Our game is so IMMERSIVE that you will think you're actually IN THE GAME! It's so much fun that your friend who thinks (s)he's too cool for videogames will want to play! It's so outrageously AWESOME that your granpa will sneak downstairs in the middle of the night in order to play!"
Smells like Poochy!
That said, the game looks like it might be pretty good.
Jonathan Harford @ May 16th 2006 8:37PM
Had my intended link to Wikipedia worked (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Itchy_&_Scratchy_&_Poochie_Show), it would be clear that "Poochy" was a reference to the Simpsons.
harvsorrow @ May 16th 2006 8:41PM
That was surprisingly hilarious. Isn't originality wonderful? I'd say more, but my fingers are already tired and I'm too busy eating doughnuts...mmmmmm...jelly filling...mmmm...
Zelda Master @ May 16th 2006 8:51PM
Is it just me, or do those rabbits look scary as hell? The game looks fun, but I must ask Ancel onething...is a missle really going to fly out of my TV? :) This game looks really fun.
Exbzurg @ May 16th 2006 9:10PM
WTF???
me want, if only to bitch slap some freak rabbits.
But yeah the graphics dont look that bad actually and the ass kickinh slappy moves look fun to do, but more importantly watch. I can imagine wii games becoming a ddr of sorts where ppl like to watch ppl make fools of themesleves while somehow still being cool at the same time.
fun.
therpham @ May 16th 2006 10:07PM
Aaah, that emo kid is scary! S/he would fit in just fine with German screamo stars Tokio Hotel. God those kids are scary. Look them up and be traumatized.
bladestar @ May 16th 2006 10:07PM
LOL that kid looked like he was about to passed out and he didn?t play for 2 minutes. When I saw that old man grab the wiimote at the end I though he would not survive the game, good thing they didn?t let the old man play the same part of the game the kid was playing instead a slow dancing part; we wouldn?t want grand dad having a heart attack while making this trailer would we?
EzPz @ May 16th 2006 10:26PM
This teaser trailer for Rayman is hilarious. The last part is magnificent. Bunnies can't play soccer. . .but they love to dance!

This game reminds me of how a lot of people complained about having to move around a lot with the Wiimote, and then the fanboys issued the (obviously wrong, even before this footage came out) defense of, "you don't HAVE to jump around to control the games on Wii. the motions can be controlled with a flick of the wrist." I guess I get it now: a lot of American kids got fat because they couldn't pull themselves away from their NES/SNES/N64, and now Nintendo is trying to rectify that. I'm sure the Richard Simmons game isn't too far off.
That being said, a pack-a-day chainsmoker like myself is going to have serious reservations about playing a game that requires such a heavy chest workout. I am glad to see that Nintendo seems concerned about the welfare of the USA Fatkidz demographic, though.
jimbobtheking @ May 17th 2006 6:23AM
he he, fat yank kids will have coronaries playing that! That being said, i'm fat, bugger.
Mike Ray @ May 17th 2006 10:05AM
i hate that punk goth girl, but this game looks interesting
shivr @ May 17th 2006 10:13AM
I think at e3 miyamoto said, in reference to wii:sports tennis, that you didn't really have to make extravegant movements for the game to register the movement, but most people did anyway because they wanted to/it was more fun. Might be different for different games, though I think a lot of these trailers are playing up the movement aspect to make it seem more fun.
It's really not often in video game trailers to see someone playing the game with a traditional controller, probably because it looks boring. Someone moving their wrist around a little bit in a gesture-based game would probably look boring too. They want to really sell the idea of the controller to you more than the graphics, so it makes sense to use more extravagent movements, even if it isn't necisarilly how a normal person will be playing the game.
Sean DL @ May 17th 2006 1:35PM
Yeah, the proof is in the second Wii trailer that Nintendo showed off at E3.
You can see two girls(dress in kimonos) playing ping pong and they are not waving there arms around like they are holding and hitting a ball with a ping pong racket..all they are doing is small flicks of the wrist really fast(as you know how fast those games in real life can go) to play the game.
Unimental @ May 21st 2006 3:18PM
Yes, all the jumping around and constant fast-slapping looks rather cheesy... but so much fun. I would agree that the extent of motion is not required, just embelished a *tad* for commercial purposes.
And how awesome is it going to be to see what Nintendo and the other developers come up with in the next few years re: gaming advertising?
