Marvel heroes unite for Ultimate Alliance

With the success of the X-Men Legends series, it was only a matter of time before Activision applied the popular hack and slash-RPG formula to the rest of the Marvel universe. We'll see the result at the end of the year when they release Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.
Like the Legends games, Alliance takes place in Marvel's Ultimate universe, and when it's clobberin' time, you and three of your fanboy buddies can engage in a little competitive co-op play. Experience points won't be shared, but will be granted on a per kill basis, and can be used to unlock new costumes, as well as upgrade powers. With Justice League Heroes due out around the same time, you can renew those Marvel vs. DC debates at your local comic shop.

i thought this game was weak when i played it at best buy. small levels with headache inducing controls. i know it sold well and got good reviews, just my two cents.
it might of been the teeming masses of unsupervised children at best buy, though.

Umm, Patrick, I think the game you played was EA's Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects, and you're right - that game sucked.
This new game is an action RPG and won't be out until the end of the year. Looks like it will be more like Dark Alliance and Norrath, so that's cool.
patrick @ May 17th 2006 8:43PM
you're right darko, it was.
iDSX @ May 17th 2006 9:18PM
Marvel Nemesis, tsk tsk tsk, that game did suck IMO.
Hopefully this one can live up to what Marvel really is.
DidYouLoseASock @ May 17th 2006 9:55PM
I think Nemesis was made by EA?... so yeah it sucked. Ultimate Alliance it by Activision so will be good. I just bought both X-Men Legends games about two weeks ago and I love them. If you like Action RPGs and X-Men then you will like those games and I?m hoping this one is the same level of quality. I read some were that they are going to try and cram as many Marvel super heroes in there as they can, the more the better.
Linear_soul_child @ May 18th 2006 12:07AM
It looks more like X-Men Legends. Maybe they should have clled it Marvel Legends instead.
AnimalTaglits @ May 18th 2006 2:30AM
The Legends games weren't based in the Ultimate universe and neither is this one. Fix it.
CheapyD @ May 18th 2006 4:50AM
They were showing the PS3 version behind closed doors at E3. It looked pretty promising...
Fogel @ May 18th 2006 7:56AM
Another crappy game i would say.
I was totally disapointed with x-men legend 1/2.
Very repetitive, poor level design , crappy teamplay(you need luck to get combo and you comrade are always blocking your way, multiplayer but not much coop in group no synergy between x-men...) etc
So i dont even expect to get that game...
Johnny @ May 18th 2006 8:53AM
ok yeah, that ultimate universe thing really threw me off.
it really needs fixing. the typical gamer probably wont care, but the ones that read comics are gonna be little confused for a sec.
is the ultimate marvel universe large enuff yet to have battles of this kinda scale yet?
warlord @ May 18th 2006 10:33AM
Hey Animal, these games are based in the Ultimate universe - especially the Legends games. The costumes pretty much give it away. Why do you think they're calling it Ultimate Alliance? Nothing to fix.
sphetr2 @ May 18th 2006 11:26AM
Did any of you watch the trailer? At the end, where it shows the screen of consoles that it will be available for, it says "Nintendo Revolution." Odd. Guess they didn't think of changing it when the new name was announced.
AnimalTaglits @ May 18th 2006 1:44PM
The costumes don't mean anything.
1. They already said it's not based in the Ultimate universe
2. The Marvel heroes battle Galactus, not Gah Lak Tus.
3. Captain America has wings on his headgear
4. Blade has not been introduced in the Ultimate universe
5. Dr. Doom has goat legs in the Ultimate universe
The only reason why we see costumes from both universes is because some people like one universe's costume over the other. "Some people like Ultimate Thor over classic Thor."

The other Legends games have character bios based off of the 616 (original) universe as well. You guys should really fix this, this is supposed to be a reputalbe site, no?
Yamen @ May 18th 2006 6:50PM
This appears to be the official announcement. Although it doesn't explicitly say one way or the other in regards to which universe it takes place in (616 or Ultimate), it does mention some pretty cool features, such as the ability for players to customize their team name, a vehicle for the team, and a team icon.
Yamen @ May 18th 2006 6:52PM
Oops, guess I'm not supposed to use HTML! The announcement is at:

It's exactly the same as X-Men Legends 2: Rise of Apocolypse. It's being developed by Raven, who did XML2. I shouldn't say exactly, but the combat is the same and everything, except rather than having only X-Men it's all Marvel chars. It looks sweet. Raven is based in Madison, where I live, so I'm looking forward to it.
