by just me:

What you guys don't know, is that as part of the exclusive top 20 Star Club, you get access to all the backstage parts of the website.

We also get Star Deals whenever we visit the conveniently located Joystiq brick & mortar locations. Last week after E3, I went and picked up the sweet new Joystiq t-shirt...no, no...not the one you guys were able to buy a couples weeks back...the NEW one.

I'd show you a picture, but I don't want to lose my star-dom.

:)

Isn't there a rule that when you talk (type) about your special access, you lose all your stars, as well as any memory of the star treatment and exclusive content?

Yea I guess it's like "the first rule of the star club is you don't talk about the star club". I know lame reference to an old movie but oh well.

Im glad you reposted this. I scanned past the last one then found myself wondering "WTF are these little star thingies for?" But now I kno.

And the academy award for the best bundle of knowledge that people are interested in.......

The Dictionary!!!

Of course.. How else would u you do definitions in highschool.

ok 2nd. I like the system. We should have our own stat page where we can re-read our posts and see how many stars we have. Is there some kind of highscore board somewhere on here? If not then it wouldnt be a bad idea as it might inspire more people to write better quality reviews. being that if it turned into a contest on who has the most stars....which im sure it will. And you never know you could find your next star blogger being that one guy that didnt wanna write a review in the 1st place but decided to anyway. Or someone who tried to out-do someone else.....

maybe there should be a character limit on these posts...

I'm still not sure what I got my two for. The only thing I can think of was a comment that basically stated that it was pointless to compare the amount of innovation in XBox Live and the Wiimote when we only know about one. Except I did it with a math metaphor.

VC, there's a problem with this star rating system...

There are trolls that get no negative stars, and yet if they get you on your nerves, as patience is always limited, you get negative stars. This is getting out of hand, just look at the history at PS3 fanboy and the "Cage" guy I told you about half a day ago.

There was a "flame war" (which sounds pathetic itself, but bare with me), going on at PS3 fanboy. It was primarily against me, because "Cage" incited that out of nowhere. Now he's the only one without a negative star, despite the fact that not only he wanted conflict (with something completely off topic), but he was harassing me and a lot of people over there; this has been going on since pretty much the birth of PS3 fanboy.

I know Joystiq has nothing to do with that, but David Hinkle doesn't seem to be doing much about it, just throwing negative stars at random, instead of deducting them from the people that deserve it the most. Somebody should ban that Cage guy, seriously.

I'm really pissed off at Joystiq because I think it's the best blog about gaming and yet my efforts on posting here are not appreciated. If I was an idiot that would be OK, but even when I'm not the most impartial person in Joystiq, some of my comments have been appreciated by several "prominent" Joystiq readers, such as m3mnoch, jaemz (he's one of your team also, right?), C. Grant (same here), Darth Pixel, if I don't forget others; not to mention that for what I've stated in this site, I've already been offered to write for other websites/blogs about gaming, not once, *twice*. It's not meant to brag, I'm trying to put things in perspective, as I perceive something wrong.

Instead, I'm mostly reprimanded for defending myself (by losing my nerve I guess), and the people that should get banned or marked with negative stars are not. :(

The star system is just as divisioning as the post count system on forums. Drop it I say. Make awards possibly, but drop the star system
*anxiously waits for star to arrive for this insightful comment*

Hmm... I believe many people have suggested it, but a simple such as an email notificatino whether you lose or gain a star would be great.

Especially in my case, because now I have 1 star, and I'm not exactly sure where it was deducted from. Maybe it was because I was 'criticising' an incorrect point from Joystiq, but even that I don't think constitutes for the removal of a star. I like the stars, their pretty.

Sometimes folks just wanna say what they want to say at that moment. I think its a shame that sites punish this, so that the only way to have total posting freedom is by having your own blog, or posting in the forums that say something to the effect of "Rants and Raves Section".
To me, a comment section or forum should be all about ranting and raving to your hearts content. I hate limitations on speech.

boots: I think the reason you're seeing that is because stars are bound to commenters, not comments. Theoretically, someone with 16 stars could make an absolutely horrifying, crude, and overlooked comment, and that comment would still say "16 STARS" next to it.

what if the article that your commenting on happens to be something that you can only really be one sided one like why UMD's are selling so badly or why the WII doesn't need good graphics or why Xbox 360's need to have a built in HD-DVD (i dunno about the last one but i was just being fair), to defend these articles you would need a certain amount of fanboyism and partialism otherwise the comments and arguements would be pointlessly one sided. Though i do agree that it should be taken into context and not too much.

and if that doesnt work then i'll send you some nice cold chocolate milk (you or ps3 fanboy)
