E3 boosts Xbox Live Marketplace downloads
In other Xbox Live news, Microsoft's "Bring it home" campaign resulted in over five million Marketplace downloads last week during E3. 1.5 million gamers visited the Xbox online service to download high definition content, the most popular of which was the Halo 3 trailer. According to the ever-quotable Peter Moore, "While others talk about online entertainment in the console space, we are delivering it in glorious high-definition to the millions of members we have across 24 countries."The E3 traffic, assisted by free Gold service from Verizon and Adidas, has pushed the total number of Marketplace downloads to 24 million pieces of digital content since launch. What did you download from Xbox Live during the expo?

That explains the horrible speeds during E3, haha. Keep the amazing content coming MS!
Mark D @ May 18th 2006 9:55PM
Although I wished they would have brought all the stuff from E3 on marketplace(Gears of War/Mass Effect demos), this was definitely a good first run.
The Lost Planet demo, multitudes of trailers, and free X-Men themes were great :)
Keef @ May 18th 2006 9:59PM
I downloaded the Halo 3 trailer, Test Drive, Lost Planet, MotoGP06, Sonic Trailer DDr trailer (all awsome)
and some other stuff i cant remember lol
CR4Z3D @ May 18th 2006 10:01PM

AC91 @ May 18th 2006 10:16PM
I downloaded what I could overnight, but since I couldn't do it while playing games and while I was on my 360, I ddn't get too much. Can't wait for the background downloading.
Overall I got all the demo's, and some of the backstage passes and some trailers (including HALO 3!) The best one was the Lost planet demo...fun and long with two parts.

"That explains the horrible speeds during E3, haha. Keep the amazing content coming MS!"
You are so right, I would have downloaded twice as much stuff if the speed hadn't dropped so badly. There were times when the service quit altogether. Great stuff though! Hopefully they'll upgrade the servers before next e3.
martin @ May 18th 2006 10:17PM
the lost planet demo was god damn awesome. and lets not forget the awesome arrival of Uno. I think the strength of the 360 is that I can enjoy playing Uno with the japanese as much as playing something cinematic and overwhelming like lost planet alone.
FrenchPoodle @ May 18th 2006 10:20PM
yea the Xbox Live Bringing it home was the best thing EVER! Seriously there was a new demo like each day, free picture packs, free themes, Microsoft stepped it up again. I hope Sony and Nintendo can do something as well with their consoles, but I think like Microsoft owns the Multimedia and Online stuff, Sony owns the graphics/hardware area, and Nintendo owns the gameplay area. Thats what its seemed like for a while. It should be very interesting!
Chris @ May 18th 2006 10:34PM
What did I download? Freaken EVERYTHING.
71/77, at least.
Jason W @ May 18th 2006 10:37PM
I think the lost planet demo was by far the best free download of E3. I love the market place and hope Sony and Nintendo follow suite. I love the free demo's to let me know if the game is worth the big bucks. Are their any plans for the PSP or DS to start demos soon? I would think the PSP with its built in wifi and pro duo support would be perfect for this type of advertising.
dsub @ May 18th 2006 11:08PM
I downloaded almost everything. I liked the backstage pass thing because G4TV is garbage. None of the hosts seem to know what they are talking about, and I get so sick of them getting all excited and hyping up titles that no one cares about.
raymond @ May 18th 2006 11:09PM
yea i downloaded everything...watched the halo 3 trailer like 4 times and yea i deleted everything and lol yea thats it
Deejay Knight @ May 18th 2006 11:12PM
Jason W:
Actually, the Nintendo DS has a download service that you can access called DS Download Stations. The games are deleted from your DS when you turn it off, but it's better than nothing! Here's a link:

On topic though, I spent a good amount of time downloading from the MarketPlace, and think Microsoft have done a damn good job of bringing E3 to the gamers that own their system. I'm pretty sure that if the Gears of War demo was to go up on Live, all of the current stock of 360s sell out of stores. I used to think that it would bring Live down, but based on the data above, it'd just get slower!
I think that if Sony and Nintendo can bring a service online even remotely similar to Xbox Live, for once in a long time, all gamers would benefit. Each company would try to put out the most content so they could hold the "We do more for gamers" banner. How sweet that would be...
mirobin @ May 18th 2006 11:19PM
Holy crap ... 600 terabytes of data transfered in one week.
It would take my computer 728 days saturating the NIC to transmit that much data. Or 104 computers like mine transmitting non-stop for 7 days ... yeesh.
That's the equivelent of 76800 dvds of data. If they mailed that many dvd's out it would cost $25,000 ...
(playing games with large numbers like this is fun)
hoos30 @ May 18th 2006 11:22PM
The MS press release states that users downloaded 600 terabytes of data during E3. I think that servers is where our $50 is going, and I'm glad to pay it. Can't wait to see how Sony's free (?) service compares.
As for "Bringing it home". Lost Planet demo was definitely the best of show. Can't believe it'll be like a year until that game comes out..it's pretty damn good already.
mnugghuhx @ May 18th 2006 11:43PM
everything that was free was obtained. Cold planet is sweet, motogp is sweet, and TDU sucks pretty bad. Halo trailer was very disappointing as was the gears trailer, some of the other were sweet though. good job MS, im looking forward to similar efforts from nintendo in the future. Im not so interested in Sony's online efforts. I was looking forward to PS3 (not to buy, i would rather have 2 systems for the same price) but now at 600 bucks, i dont know anyone who is still interested. So i guess i wont be playing that.
mietha @ May 19th 2006 12:18AM
Everything that was free, plus the full version of uno.
smellslikepie @ May 19th 2006 12:50AM
You forgot to say that over 600 TBs were downloaded during that week.
ModiusX11 @ May 19th 2006 3:50AM
I went out and brought the WiFi adaptor during E3 and downloaded alot more than I thought I would.
Halo 3 Trailer (Can't wait for this one)
Test Drive Unlimited (Very well done)
Lost Planet
And the older stuff - FNR3, Vanquish for PGR3.
What we're all really waiting for is custom GamerPics.
Martin @ May 19th 2006 9:03AM
I must admit, Microsoft is really stepping up to the plate in this next generation, and I'm very impressed. Coupled with the outrageous price of the PS3, I think that I'll be a Wii360 man this generation. Kudos, MS!
soco @ May 19th 2006 9:11AM
i loved all the e3 stuff, but i really wish they'd step up the content for xboxlive period. i'd buy many more arcade games if they just had some coming. there were a few really cool adventure games in the arcades that involved co-op, like golden axe. hell battletoads would rock too. i just wish they'd focus a lot more on that. i wouldn't even mind if the big houses focused exclusive content, like some nice new 2D shooters from japanese developers, for xboxlive. i don't care if they fit on memory cards or not. it's a reason to upgrade to a harddrive. i'd much rather play a really fun game that's 30$ and a download than a crap port like King Kong, Tony Hawk, and Amped 3 (and Amped 2 was such a good game). a new exclusive castlevania would be to die for, but i think that's stating the obvious. the 3d ones have been mediocre at best.
Sean Tucker @ May 19th 2006 11:46AM
The Lost Planet demo was incredible. Everything else was awsome too. MotoGP is soo HARD THOUGH! I ALWAYS CRASH IN IT!
Ciaran Gallagher @ May 19th 2006 11:58AM
First and foremostly, I didn't even know that the UK would get free Xbox Live until two days before it ended.
I downloaded:
* Call of Duty 2 map pack
* Test Drive Unlimited
* MotoGP 2006
* Top Spin 2
* Lost Planet demo
* World Cup Football demo
...and thats all I can remember!
I want to download Uno soon though!
Robotic House Plant @ May 19th 2006 4:06PM
Yeah, I bought a 360 in the middle of E3 and immediately began downloading all I could. The speeds during the day, for lack of a better word, well... sucked. But have improved greatly since then.
Love downloading the demos, trailers, even graphics to customize my system. Nice job Microsoft!
I'm totally looking forward to the ability to queue downloads in the future and play offline while downloading.
Sparty @ May 19th 2006 4:07PM
i tried to download almost everything. the problem is that im already at my capacity with my 20gb HD. MS needs to come out with at least 60 or 80gb to trump Sony. I was very excited about Uno until i played the trial verson. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Vectorpunk @ May 28th 2006 9:47PM
Several of the recent additions to the marketplace downloads appear to have issues. They would basically time out on the download screen and quit, always at the same percentage. Moto GP 6 for example, always at 78%. I've tried over 20 different occasions and always the same and its not my HD space I've got 6 gigs left. I'm from the UK and was curious if anyone else had experienced the same problem?
