I don't think Sony is out of touch with their customer base with PS3.
I've ordered one (for gaming mainly, the rest is bonus), my brother has ordered one (for Bluray and Super Audio mainly, the rest is bonus).

What you people got to remember is that; Sony dosn't aim to create a game-console, they want a PS3 in everyones living rooms, and they want everyone to use it for everything (GGames, Music, Movies)..

I do believe that alot of games will take advantage of the extended diskspace Bluray delivers, and I believe alot will not take advantage of the extended space.
But atleast the consumer have a option to buy a system wich gives us that, wich we would not have for many years if Sony didn't produce it.
If you cannot afford it at launch, buy a cheaper system.
Stop complaining over that the features we get on the market is too advanced, buy it when you want it.
I want PS3 with the current features, I do not mind paying 600$ for it..

How many car-magazines do you see complaining that BMW dosn't downgrade their cars to be in the same price-class as Opels?

There is a market for 3 different consoles of a different brand, however there won't be a market for 3 identical consoles of a different brand. :-/

Fanboy'ism is OK, but I think this anti-Sony thing has gone to far now.
Clearly DVD is cheaper than Bluray, that dosn't mean there isn't a market for it.
And who knows, perhaps Bluray will also have cheap games, the Bluray movies are atleast cheaper than HD-DVD at Best-buy checkout, even tough everyone is saying HD-DVD is cheaper.. :-/

Just my 5 cents, see you playing Motorstorm. :P
