Bungie recently publicized a series of emails sent by banned cheaters desperate to get back onto Halo 2's multiplayer servers. Here's a snippet from our personal favorite:
"Please! I'll destroy my mods. i'll snich on some people that r getting away with mods on matchmaking! Just PLEASE appeal my ban. i want to play matchmaking again. i want to be clean for the arrival of Halo 3! c'mon! i didn't know what i was getting into when i got mods from my friend and from [website censored]! you have to believe me!!!"

Personally I wonder how a child can have such a good grasp on computers and modding consoles, and at the same time have absolutely no idea how to spell (or know why cheating is wrong):
"My account has been band , but I have not done anything wrong on my account. I was wondering why I have been bant and if you can unbaned me please."

And to any potential bungie cheerleaders, time, money, practicality are not sufficient reasons for not fixing a problem that they created (maps).
The ability to boot, a personal ban list, or a subset of servers would help.

^^yea, yea- you corrected the mistake, but still had to laugh.

I've seen several articles on certain players accused of cheating on PC games because they just played a little too well. But in this case, I'm assuming that Bungie and the MS techs have some form of monitoring software to sense illegal play on their servers.
I stopped playing Halo2 a while back, but for the money I spent on the game, plus the money that goes towards my xbox live membership, I would assume/ like for MS to have a special team of programmers on board to identify and disable the various hacks all throughout the products lifecycle. I understand that they cant just hotfix and patch every single game out there, but some games are obviously going to be less prone to cheaters. Halo2 obviously should be monitored and patched more regularly than it has.

Bungie owns, there weekly update is usually
funny, although I want them to release more info on Halo 3!! :( I love these modders begging to have another chance, wow, what retards. If they can apologize to every person, every person that has had their online experience ruined by these retards, then, perhaps.. until then, KEEP 'EM BANNED or 'bant, band or baned'

Its funny to see the letters sent in. Finally, I see my feedback in action! Also...Dont know about you WARLYKE but cheating has been cut down by 3/4 (maybe even greater) of what it used to be. Stand-by now lags the person out and mods rarely happen anymore. Bridging for host is now the big thing and that gives only a little advantage.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK BUNGIE!!

Modding: Modified Xbox, Illegal, people got on Xbox live with a modded xbox and it enables for people to basically do anything, from Auto Aim to flying around at 500 mph.
Boosting: A group of friends, usually 6 or 3, split up and 3 are in one party and 3 are in the other, they match up in a game of matchmaking and they let there friends win, so those 3 friends get there rank up.
Bridging: Using a program on the PC, it enables you to be the host of the game and with the program, you can Block peoples IP's from the game which boots them out, so you win.
Standbying: Using the modem, you can ''stand-by'' and it lags everyone in the game. The game usually goes into a blue screen with the words ''Loading, please wait'' for everyone but the person who stand-byed, so everyone else is stood still while this stand-byer racks up kills.

Maybe it's just because I suck anyways, but I never play ranked/matchmaking games. All the competition and occasional run-in of cheating just sucks the fun out of it for me. I like a more casual, friendly atmosphere.

I'd like to see Bungie's post about accounts they've actually banned by mistake.

360 has the option in the gammer rep section.
I say keep'm banned, they knew what they were doing and it ruins games for alot of people. If they posted the gammertags of the suspended ones it might be a better deterant to see how many people are booted for mods.

Yeah because no sex always results in cheating.

Deleveling: When a team member commits suitside during a game of slayer, in an effort to lower their own rank.
Sleeping with Satan: Someone offers you a party invite, in which they use one of many cheats COMMON to HALO 2 to rank-you-up. In-return the cheater recevies a free 2-3 month XBOX LIVE membership card to use as an alais for more cheating.
Stealing Host: A network manipulation hack accomplished by multistep button selection before a match.
From Bungie:
"In addition, many of the original exploits and issues first noticed in Halo 2 have been fixed completely and/or the impact of such cheats have been reduced."

...sigh...
By the way, Bungie does not consider super jumps and sticking cheats but "in-game glitches and exploits" that are a part of the game and not bannable offenses.

How many of these children thought of themselves ALL tough and 733t. And now, they have been pwned like noone has been pwned.
What Bungie has to do now is track down forumn posts and what-not of these guys talking trash. Nothing I love more than people like this getting man handled. Love it, love it, love it.
Proof once again: 'script kiddies versus programmers' is a nonsensical statement much like 'toddlers versus Airborn Rangers'. The true problem is that most of these folks are teenagers (or twenty-somethings with the maturity of a teenager) and so no matter how many times you put them down, they just won't get it. Still fun putting them down though...

I've only experienced cheating a few times on my PS2: Btlfield 2 MC gave me no problems. Once, someone juiced their stats on NFL Street, and that ticked me off. But the only real problems I have are in Ratchets 3 + 4. A guy climbed through a f-ing wall and rocketed my team for a good 10 minutes, untouchable. In R:DL, I have been standbyed many times. I have only cord-pulled once, and that was only to combat cord-pulling done on me. And I did it down by 3 with 1:30 left on a huge map. It didn't work; because of Guitar Hero and KH2, I haven't played an online game since March.

Do you know why they ban user names and not IPs? So the losers will have to buy another year subscription to get back on the servers.
And many of them are dumb enough to do so.
Brilliant...

I've attempted that when I first got my 360, but have you seen it work with BC games?
"360 has the option in the gammer rep section."
I know but if most modders/ cheaters are using 2-3 month accounts, what is the point? You get me?
This is new to online gaming, which is why H2 needs boot capability like GRAW and so many others.
"I say keep'm banned.."
So do I.

But after some short contemplation, I have no inkling of remorse. These are gamers that were banned from the Bungie servers, not merely suspended. This means that they really deserved this form of retribution. From what I've heard, Bungie takes a fair look at a reported cheater before deciding to take action. Getting banned means that they were doing the wrong things.
I don't whether it's fair or not for them to banned from Halo 3. Just like cheaters don't care whether their conduct is fair when they take advantage of honest players online.
Lock 'em up. Throw away the key. Justice is done.

I would love to see the look on the people's faces when they pop in Halo 3 and realize they're still banned. So sick of those cheaters who openly admit to it over the headset, and then beg Bungie to take them back. You're not cool. You're not 733t. You're just some preteen who got busted for something that's ignorant to begin with.
I'd also like to interview the very first person to get banned from Halo 3 multiplayer. I'd probably rub it in until he/she got mad. Then I'd probably say something along the lines of "Okay well I don't like your attitude. I'm going to go play Halo 3 multiplayer now.

Without a more effective system Halo 3 will be doomed to the same situation. The recent news about people playing "backups" of their games on live is proff we'rw all in for more of the same.
When a PC game is broken by its delevlopers, and subsquently fix, it has the potential to become legendary (BF1942). When a flaw in a game/ system isn't PROPERLY address or flatout ignored in favore of the next itteration, well... Tribes 2 - Tribes Vengence)
Too little too late.
Does that mean MS won't have a monetarily sucessful game? No, but is that the true measure of scuccess? I ask Bungie and all developers, what standard do you hold your self to?
Mario, or Spyro?
Splinter Cell PT, or TR3?
For the record 3 pros vs 5 avg players is a far better game then 4 +1 Deleveler vs 2 noobs.
