Curt Schilling to become EQII villain
Boston Red Sox ace Curt Schilling is about to go on a murderous rampage! From June 5-7, the 2004 World Series champ will stalk the online world of Norrath to benefit the fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. The virtual Schilling will challenge fellow EverQuest II players (careful, the guy takes notes!), and for every opponent who manages to defeat him, Sony will donate $5 to the ALS Association.Schilling has also been raising funds through his charity, Curt's Pitch for ALS, but sees online gaming as an excellent way to spread awareness of the disease, so log in and join the cause!
The Sox just happen to be playing in New York on those same three days. Slay a few more Yankees for us, will ya Curt?

I hope he has his vocal chords permenantly severed, so he can no longer communicate by voice. Guy runs his mouth more than any fool in sports history. He loves the sound of his own voice more than he loves to pitch. I hate you Curt.. and the Sox.
Go Yanks.
White Rose Duelist @ May 24th 2006 4:40PM
Will a bloody sock be added to the in-game equipment list? It would be a neat way to reward players who beat his character.
Tennessee Jed @ May 24th 2006 4:40PM
Looks like I'm going to have to end my EQII hiatus and get back in there to take him on.
On another note, thanks for bringing back "Planeshift" memories with the picture!!! haha I haven't thought about that game in forever.
soxfan @ May 24th 2006 4:45PM
Sox rule!! Yankees drool. Go Curt!
Schill should play Guild Wars.
bomberman @ May 24th 2006 4:58PM
Hey Ejflex, how's your $200 million team doin' this year? Bunch of juiced up, overpaid bums. Giambi and Sheffield should be banned.
Tucker @ May 24th 2006 5:08PM
Damn it, White Rose, you beat me to the punch on the snide bloody sock comment.
Enigma @ May 24th 2006 5:12PM
Hey Ejflex,
Schill sure pout his words to use when he shut down the Yankees on Monday. It was sweet to be at that game.
Of course Ej would have nothing but praises if the Yanks spent the money and snagged Schilling. Hypocrite fans.
At least the sox have no juicers.
Tucker @ May 24th 2006 5:26PM
Yeah, Enigma, David Ortiz is all-natural.
Joe @ May 24th 2006 5:51PM
Yes, and they let Giambi back on the juice this year. The Sox really suck, that's why they're 5-2 on the Yanks, and a game or two ahead.
Wait, what happened on Oct. 20, 2004? Oh yeah. Never mind.
justin @ May 24th 2006 5:52PM
Okay Joystiq, i can handle the five "$599 for what sony?!" articles a day and the closet nintendo fanboyisms but i have to say i draw the line at Curt Schilling worship and Yankee bashing.
Joystiq, it's time to fall on your sword.
ejflex @ May 24th 2006 5:58PM
HYPOCRIT FANS? Enigma? You just set yourself to get royally PWNED on the internet. Good job genius.
First off... 40 to 50% of baseball players juiced during those years... Let me guess No sox player juiced. Right? OK. Nomar brokedown physically because... well thats a pointless argument.
NEXT. Hypocrit fans huh? HAHA.... I am not some dumb "I play sports games on my ps2" fan... so dont talk down to me. The Red Sox fans are the most hypocritical fans in the world. You had the HIGHEST payroll of any world championship team EVER. WHy? Because you turned into the same team that you loathed. The Yankees. You bought your championship. You see Mannys HR last night when he stared at it for about 6 seconds? You guys prob see nothing wrong with that... but imagine Sheffield did it? Or how about what short term memories your fans have... unless its about your 1 championship in 86 years.. then your memories are sharp. (I also find it funny about how ONE championship negates the last 26 the Yanks have won. Or even in the last decade... the 4 championships to your 1. But let me guess The whole Yankee staff even the coaches were all juicing.. but not One Red Sox player was.) There is nothing more disgraceful than an undereducated Red Sox fan. Johnny Damon is your god for 4 years... and your team drives him out of town, but you blame him for going to the Yankees. Everyone wants to go where the money is. Theres no loyalty in the game anymore.. but you should know that being a huge baseball fan that you are.
Lastly.. I'll beat you to the punch and bring up how we had the "biggest choke in sports history" in 2004. Congrats... another thing you can revel in. The Red Sox list of achievements in the past 90 years practically are ONE championship... and and defeat the Yankees have had... or any smudge on their franchises history. When you are in the post season every single year.. you are bound to collapse. Our team isnt the same as the 96-98 team. Not as much heart. ABout as much heart as the Sox teams have had for your entire life. Very little.
You're an ass... learn more about the game before making posts with blanket statements in it.
PWNED.
Master 0f None @ May 24th 2006 6:13PM
The only thing worse than Sony/MS/Nintendo Fanboi-ism is Yanks/RedSox Fanboi-ism.
I'm a Yanks fan, but I did congratulate my Red Sox fan friends when they won in 04. I was under the mistaken impression that if they won, they'd finally stop complaining. ;-)
Enigma @ May 24th 2006 6:27PM
Ej,
You have no proof about the 40-50% but Canseco must be right huh?
It is 6 championships not 1. Sox are forced to spend like everyone else since Steinbrenner went on his spending spree. I say salary cap baseball.
And you didnt "pwn" anyone since you cant even get the facts straight. /wink
So what if they watch HR's? Who doesnt?
invisible cheese @ May 24th 2006 6:27PM
Glad i'm a Mets fan. Thanks for Pedro, Boston.
Enigma @ May 24th 2006 6:32PM
To add to it ... you trash talked Schilling for his mouth, but in return there are plenty of mouths on the Yankees as well. If Schilling wasnt a Sox you wouldnt have mentioned a thing.
Randy Johnson had a big mouth last year going into the NY uniform ... Schilling talks because people ask ... he doesnt "need" to search out people to talk to. They go to him.
And All I said was he shut up the yankees which he did. Then you get all emotional and bring up so much banter. Even banter that isnt factually accurate. But I must be the uneducated "ass". Great educational words chief.
ejflex @ May 24th 2006 6:39PM
ENIGMA...
Wow... not only are you a clueless Red Sox fan(as opposed to a Red Sox fan who actually knows what he is talking about), but you also can't comprehend what you read.
You dont think I know you won 5 championships before the sale of babe Ruth? What are you nuts.. I know more about the Red Sox than you do probably.
By saying "Your 1 championship" I was referring to your "1" championship in 86 years. I didn't mean your teams history.. and if you re-read my original post... you would relaize that.
Dont ever question me again.. unless you are going to actually bring it. That was WEAK.
READ... COMPREHEND... RESPOND.
AS opposed to speaking with loose lips before you think, like your boy Curt Shilling.(WHo by the way was prob doing something of somesort to get through the "pain" with his MAULED ankle. Funny how he was on the Steroids Panel before congress. huh? Steroids and performance enhancers dont always produce Maguiresque muscle builds.
Get a clue.
ejflex @ May 24th 2006 6:48PM
And lastly before I leave you Genius(ENIGMA)...
I hate Randy Johnson...
I dislike A-rod
I'm not a big fan of the way Torre wont retaliate to things.. and always stays classy. What ther Yanks need to do is get a fire under their asses liek the days of old.
I'm not a dumb fan who thinks my team can do no wrong.. like 99% of Sox fans are. The chant "Yankees Suck" is such a joke... you Sox fans have been chanting that for the past 60 someodd years every time being sent home for long winters by guess who? The Yanks. Who so dont suck. They are onyl the best franchise sports have ever seen. Have the Red Sox ever aquired the status of a dynasty? NOPE. Without the Yankees.. you'd be just any other team. You'd be a Baltimore Orioles. That's it and that's all.
Sox fans should just wise up.. and brag about 2004, and besides that keep their mouths shut. But you, and those like you wont ever do that. You'll continue.. and "keep the faith" every year.. until MAYBE you win another one.. and act as if your "faith" willed the team to victory. Your "faith" won ONE championship in 86 years. GREAT ODDS on faith. 1/86. My advice...DONT take up gambling.
And by the way.. EWnigma.. where is your factual, educated responses.. to my responses to your original assinine comments about payroll and steroids.
OK let me answer for you.
ENIGMA: Yes EJFLEX... you are right.. Sox players def did steroids like every other team in baseball. It was wrong.. but unfortunately the game was tainted.
YES EJFLEX you are right.. the Red Sox did have the second highest payroll in baseball and the highest payroll of any world series championship team ever, therefor my points about how the Yankees buy their championships.. should have been kept inward.. because the Red Sox did the same thing.
Talk about Hypocricy. PATHETIC.
Just go do your HW champ.
Lets see if manny takes a rest in the Green monster between innings or listens to an mmp3 player while hes fielding tonight. Classless.
Ianc02 @ May 24th 2006 7:13PM
Bloody hell, someone(schilling) is doing something good with his name for charity and you guys attack each other. Morons.
BigBlue6 @ May 24th 2006 7:35PM
I got news for all y'all baseball in its entirety pretty much sucks. . . it is boring and as ridiculous as soccer is to most americans.
Shore @ May 24th 2006 7:43PM
God Bless Ejflex for telling it like it is.
I would love to play EQII for the chance to shut Schilling up
That said, that's great that he's doing something like this. Good for him, and good for ALS. One good act doesn't negate him being an a-hole, though.
And for the record, this season proves Giambi never needed the steroids, he's awesome on his own!
ejflex @ May 24th 2006 7:54PM
BigBlue... go back to England or something. Only non-intellects "don't get" baseball.. unless you just plain aren't into sports in general. Then I can condone what you are saying.
Magnum @ May 24th 2006 8:05PM
If I'm reading this correctly Sony will donate $5 dollars to Curt Shillings ALS Cause, not necessarily his charity but to the association that champions the disease he is working to get money for.
Wouldn't Schilling want to intentionally lose to opponents so that sony will have to donate more money to the cause.
Seems like a slight conflict of interest, but for a good conflict of interest.
Tucker @ May 24th 2006 8:33PM
First of all, no - baseball isn't always the most exciting sport. But compared to others? (*cough*cricket*cough) It's a matter of taste, at best.
And who said Americans think football (soccer, if you must) is ridiculous? It's one of the most-played sports over here. Just because we don't have insanely paid football athletes the way we have insanely played American football/basketball/baseball/etc players doesn't mean we don't like the sport. It's kind of difficult to build a decent league when most of your players leave to go overseas to join the higher paid leagues in Europe and the rest of the world.
Jedite @ May 25th 2006 8:44AM
Nothing like baseball talk on Joysitq! As a Bostonian who loves the Mets and Sox there's good news on both ends. We've got Omar building up the farm system while the Yankees don't have any prosepects anymore. The Power balance in New York is heading from the Bronx back to Queens. You saw it when the Mets took 2 out of 3 in Subway Series. It happens once every couple of decades, the Mets are the kings of New York. We saw it in '69, in '86, and it's in the process of happening again. How about that Pavano signing? How's that working out for ya? The road to the world series is running thru Fenway Park. Maybe the Fenway faithful can start a 2000 chant for you guys. This feels like we're on JT The Brick's show or something
Heff @ May 25th 2006 8:53AM
Red Sox fan.
Thanks for the info concerning the highest paid payroll to win a World Series championship. Was unaware. I just know that the Yanks have a 70 mil. higher payroll this year than the Sox.
Praise the cause. Too bad I don't play that game.
Also, don't bash Soccer, (not a personal fan), but its the most popular sport in the world.
As for Manny watching his HR's, it's Manny being Manny. It pisses a lot of people off, but its not like its something new. If someone else did that stuff it would eat at me for a bit, but if it was the same thing everytime, then I would get used to it.
Concerning the juicers, there must be levels of steroid use. As you can see dramatic differences from when they were "using" to "not using". I'd say they continue to use, but either not as hardcore, or use different, less effective roids. I mean, Giambi got smaller, was hitting like crap for a while. Manny got smaller this year too, (not sure if its fat or muscle loss). Ortiz, if he's using, is barely using. I met him in person...he's F'ing HUGE. If he gets his weight behind the ball...fa-get-aboutit. ;-)
Love the Red Sox, love the Sox/Yanks rivalry. By far, the best games to see. Was there on 5/22 :-).
TMoney @ May 25th 2006 9:07AM
Poor Ejflex. He sounds really bitter about having the highest payroll for the last 6 years with no championships to show for it. The Yankees have spent over 1 BILLION dollars since they won a championship. Thats probably more than the sox spent from 1918 to 2004. Its hard to no longer be the best. I feel sorry for Yankee fans like him, having to watch the Yankees become baseball's version of the Knicks a little more each year. And if you bothered to do a little research you would know that Ortiz has ALWAYS been his size. He's not a Sammy Sosa, or a Giambi. Ortiz is just a big guy, he hasn't gotten any smaller in recent years, like countless other ball players have. Don't tarnish the clean guys to protect the scum (Giambi, Sheffield, Bonds, Palmeiro, Sosa.. the list go on and on). Go cheer for your coolection of stars(with egos to match) and I'll cheer for my team. See you in October, if you make it.
Big Ed @ May 25th 2006 12:10PM
Am I the only one that thinks that pic looks alot like Adam Sessler?
No? well, I'd better stop eating staple sauce.
Joe @ May 25th 2006 5:17PM
Ya know why Curt Schilling was on that steroid council? Because he's the most outspoken CRITIC of steroids. He's released an educational video featuring real minor-leaugers who were involved with steroids.
Your "excuse" for steroid use of the Yankees is "It's OK, everyone did it." You reference Nomar. His peak of home runs is 35 in 1998. He declined after that. Nomar was definitely fragile with his injuries. But he was NOT a juicer.
Giambi AND Sheffield admitted to steroid use; if minor leaugers are busted, it's 50 games, 100 games, banned for life. Yet they only got therapy. Hmm...
I reverse your PWNED and squash you with an OWNZORZ.
Eric @ May 26th 2006 2:32AM
I think you all need to realize something.
EVERYONE hates the Yankees.
...Wait, scratch that.
EVERYONE (with an IQ above 10, a weight below 500, and a full set of dropped testicles) hates the Yankees.
Fixed.
