I look forward to the new features soon to be available ... The BEST feature that should be incorporated into this update is to offer full access to URGE.com. for those of you who have not signed up for a truly free 14 day trial of urge.com (which i highly recommend) it is a music subscription service that allows users to download music to your computer or media center certified device for unlimited playback. You may also purchase music for .99/song for ability to transfer to ipod or to burn. The most obvious benefit with having URGE.com on my xbox 360 is that i don't have to run another wire to my sound system to enjoy good music. I purchased the 360 so that i could rely on one device to manage my media content.

"crap I'm bored of getting stuff like this a year later after the Xbox 360 came out, stop being stupid MS this is why I like Sony better."

#46, Thats about the dumbest thing I've heard today! So let me get this straight. Its stupid for a company to actually LISTEN to gamers concerns and make it right? Whoa, you really should have SONY imprinted on your forehead with thier barcode tattoed on the back or your neck guy because you have been brainwashed like a Mopho!

"About the updates, is there any way you can skip to the next song on your playlist while playing a game without having to access the dashboard, i.e. hitting the right d pad to skip to the next track? "

bv, this has to be put in by the game developers. I'm sure Microsoft doesn't want to reserve the dpad which would take its use away from games.

PGR had this functionality. I wish Burnout Revenge would have.

I'm hesitant to thank a company for giving its customers what they ask for but they are making me feel better about that grand I dropped last month. This will go along way for customer loyalty and as we see with the fanboy-ism on any blog loyalty means a lot in games. Keep taking notes Sony you have a lot to make up for now.

man, i bought an xbox360 because uncle sam me an early birthday check, but i was never a huge msft fan (windows 95 crashed on my first computer two weeks after my mom bought it) . since when did the msft turn from being the anti-christ to being subject to so much praise from gamers?

It is such a odd turn of events that from last years E3 microsoft morphed from an evil corporate overloard hellbent on extracting every red cent from a gamer's wallet to a benevolent and down to earth gaming manufacturer that really understands and listens to what gamers want.

I couldnt be more pleased with my 360, the experience just keeps getting better. Sony might be committing retail and image suicide with their arrogant and elitist attitude and tactics but it is also due to microsofts continued innovations and gamer-centered business decisions that make them increasingly the best console and manufacturer out there.

Great stuff, but I am still waiting (as are several others) for mouse support. I know this is a controversal subject/idea, but if you don't want/like the idea of a mouse on your console then you don't have to buy one lol

But I want it..... Please :)

I love those SONY guys that are so bored with their systems that they have to vent for wasting their money by trashing the system that they wish had bought.

And if there is any Sony developers reading this trying to get tips on what to do next.....here's one be original afterall this is the next generation for systems and unless they want to end up like Dreamcast they better get to work and not on trying to decide what look they want for the new controllers which they've went back to the original plan. I say scrap the PS3 and focus on the PSP before MS starts manufacturing their own and takes over that market.

Getting back to the subject MS, kudos on the updates I think its great and a must need with next generation systems to be able to adapt to the ever changing world of gaming!

Mouse support: I doubt that you will ever see this on the 360. This would create an advantage during online gaming that may cause problems in their fanbased community. HOWEVER, Live Anywhere will allow you to play your 360 games on your computer so you can use that mouse all you want. If you want to use a mouse, start saving up for Vista.

Does the dashboard have a browser? I haven't seen one, that's all. So far, this looks like a direct connection to a Microsoft server (much like Coleco's ADAM modem or Nintendo's Famicom download service).

If that's the case, then this isn't all that revolutionary. These "new" features seem like aspects of the service that should have been obvious inclusions right off the bat.

finally...but these features are basic and could've been shipped with the 360 launch but microsoft had other plans..they wanted to impress us with update features, rite? but these updates are always welcome..

there must be so many other features ready-to-update but they're not gonna add 'em in this update coz they're left for next update..

n why the hell they can't add DivX and XviD support? why? why? why? they think it might increase piracy..no no they just wanna secure WMV format....

"crap I'm bored of getting stuff like this a year later after the Xbox 360 came out, stop being stupid MS this is why I like Sony better."

Would you prefer that they never made changes to their products? I like a product that has the ability to evolve as the user base grows and provides feedback. I like it that the XBOX team seems to have a legitimate concern for its user base. This is evidenced by their continued commitment to connecting directly with the end users. I have communicated with Trixie and Major Nelson on several occasions and I really appreciate the fact that they take the time to read and respond to my e-mails. I like the wealth of knowledge they and other sources at XBOX provide via the internet in the form of podcasts, blogs and websites.
I think the XBOX community is very critical but I also think they realize just how much they are listened to and its very important to them. If you think that this update is late well that is your opinion. I for one believe it's right on time :-)

Sincerely,
GhostRiderTGAC

I actually emailed and asked MS for the boot to dash and DVD book marking. What a novel idea...contact the manufacturer as well as bitch and moan online.

I am glad they are making it easier to find what you want on the XBL market place as well and now that I can queue downloads I might actually DL more than the "must have" demos.

Divx support is available, but not through Microsoft. I am proud to plug http://www.runtime360.com/. I use it and it works great. Enjoy!

And about that dashboard browser, I truly hope that never happens. I have heard of a browser hack for the Media Center extender but have no cravings to use it. Anyone that has ever tried to use their TV as a monitor knows exactly what I'm talking about. Plus, that opens up your 360 to the net, requiring a firewall, and I want to keep the dashboard eating up as little resources as possible. I know it sounds like a great idea but the cons outweigh the pros.

You're right. Microsoft and internet security don't get along. Maybe a dedicated server is as far as it should go. Do you think when I buy my Xbox 360 this summer that MS will INCLUDE this update, or sell me the original dashboard and make me pay for the upgrade service? An update would imply something was wrong or not performing at its best, so I would hope they wouldn't sell "flawed" software to future buyers. Either way, I'll buy it.

Boot to dashboard is of little use to people who actually remove the gamedisc before switching off (like your supposed to!).

what are you talking about? everyone i know with a games console leaves a game in their tray. saves time, especially if you jsut got a game and youll be playing it all the time to try and get it finished! boot to dashboard is EXTREMELY useful, and something i didnt think they'd implement. go microsoft!

i hope they start selling bigger hard drives and letting us downlaod full version games using microsft points. that would be amazing. maybe the next console....

Great thanks Microsoft for making us wait so long for no brainer features that should and could have been included from day 0.

Now hows about making the Xbox360 a prober Media center and not a half baked extender. If you do this, I wont need to buy a PS3....... catch my drift?

#48... Yeah I can understand how you would still love sony since you are still waiting and will be for quite some time till it releases and they work all their bugs out of their online, system interface, games, and developers get a grip on the ps3 tools... You will probibly be waiting awhile and well MS is getting busy with having a rock solid system with 10 million installed userbase before you get your hands on your grail. I will buy a ps3 possibly it is not a slam on ps3...it is a pointed responce to an idiotic comment.

Hi folks,

As a totally blind gamer who has just started out using the 360, I wonder how likely it would be to include some sort of text to speech for the main dashboard interface? It could be something as simple as reading the current hilight. Microsoft already does have a text to speech engine, I wonder how realistic it would be to include it? Would certainly make the marketplace a lot of fun, saves me using support workers all the time to check it for updates.
