What if the cast of FFVII ran a fast food franchise?
Cartoon Network's Robot Chicken finally answered the one question that's been on gamer's minds since the completion of RPG classic Final Fantasy VII. No, not can we expect a remake on PlayStation 3, but rather what would it be like if the cast of Final Fantasy VII ran a fast food joint.
3/4 persepctive and Meteo FTW!

Wait a minute, something's not right.
I couldn't find any sign of Red XIII in that entire film.
And the gang is running a cheap burger joint...
Oh, God, no! RED!!!!!!!!!!!
Momus @ May 26th 2006 12:54PM

The whole show was great did anyone see the 8-mile spoof with loony tunes characters. That was one of the funniest things i saw in a long time.
GTgamer @ May 26th 2006 1:04PM
I can't stand RPGs, but I almost pulled a muscle on Sunday when Cloud battled the potato. So awesome.
Robot Chicken is sitll awesome this season...lovin' it.

Careful. Square Enix may see this and decide to make yet another Final Fantasy spin off game!
JimmyHACK @ May 26th 2006 1:07PM

Dear Joystiq,
Please remove whoever serves the ad for the free ipod with the dancing girl. In firefox my cpu usuage immediately spikes to 100% and my browser is rendered useless. I really dont want to use ad-block on your site.

I don't understand why people think this is so hilarious. It just references various elements in Final Fantasy 7 in vaguely humorous ways. I am sure there are better ways to parody the game that are actually... I dunno... funny? Robot Chicken is just a slew of references. References do not equal funny.
cringer8 @ May 26th 2006 1:26PM
@kvn
The 8-Mile spoof was hilarious (even funnier than this spoof).
But the BEST Robot Chicken clip to date is the "Behind the Music: Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem." I don't laugh too much at TV anymore (shows usually generate a smirk at best), but that one made me laugh.
*Side Note: "My Name is Earl" also succeeds at getting me to laugh (sometimes so hard, I miss the next line).*
theLoneYoshi @ May 26th 2006 1:35PM
@ frodo.
Of course there will be people that think this is funny and people that don't. It's just a matter of taste. You don't understand why people think it's funny, and you don't have to. Just like I think that chewing gum is the most pointless thing to do, but there are people I know who chew gum all the time.
I personally found it funny how they parodied the game in many ways including the text, battles, and even Sephiroth's Supernova attack. I don't think anybody can do it "better", just "differently".

at least while im at work, i get the same problem...
Fods @ May 26th 2006 1:53PM
Excellent! im an the biggest FF7 (along with the rest of the gamers :P) At first i thought it was an animation!!!
only to relise with the close up of Barrett!
frodo @ May 26th 2006 2:25PM
I understand why people think it's funny. People think it's funny because they get the reference. What I don't understand is why people insist on thinking that reference-based humor is funny. Get it?
Fat Sony Fanboy @ May 26th 2006 2:25PM
Everyone wants to be like Sony and I dont blame them. They don't own the console market for nothing.
LongshotX @ May 26th 2006 2:29PM
Those PS3 graphics look simply amazing!
Sprngpilot @ May 26th 2006 2:35PM
frodo-
Yeah, we get it. You don't think it's funny. Fine. Now stop pestering the rest of us. It almost seems you want to make the rest of us feel bad/stupid for liking something you happen to not like. Why don't you just chalk it up to differing personal tastes and move on?
LongshotX @ May 26th 2006 2:45PM
Have you guys seeen the apocalyspe pony one? That was hilarious.
SuicideNinja @ May 26th 2006 3:28PM
JDUB, I use firefox and don't have that problem.
thunderleg @ May 26th 2006 4:03PM
I swore I'd never pay attention to anything related to FF7+ again, but the hamburger song got a chuckle from me.
obo @ May 26th 2006 4:25PM
It's funny because a guy used an epic sword attack to make french fries and called upon a meteor to get him out of unpaid overtime.
No, wait, nevermind – I agree with Frodo completely. Also, in retrospect, Life of Brian and Monty Python and the Holy Grail weren't actually funny. They were just a bunch of references with some surreal slapstick humor, too.
Josh @ May 26th 2006 5:36PM
Different taste in humor. That it's a reference in and of itself isn't funny. It's the combination of what's being referenced with the context it's placed in; i.e. the unlikely juxtaposition of these fantasy RPG characters in a mundane real-world setting like a fast food joint. Personally, I think that's FUNNIER than would be a parody more faithful to the game.

I pray for hours every night for a day when we can get adult swim in the UK.
Not to mention- Where's Europe's version of Animal Crossing for the N64? Sin and Punishment? New Super Mario Bros.? Similarly-priced hardware and software?
(and slightly more on topic) Final Fantasy XII?
(and slightly more on topic) Parody brings together two of the the best things in life: Humour and nostalgia.
rasbill @ May 26th 2006 7:26PM
the dewd tweakin at the end of the line is great

If you're wondering, the ad that spikes your CPU is a Flash ad, and the MM Flash Player is very, very bloated (trust me, I program Flash files) and so you might wanna use a little extention called 'FlashBlock' which replaces all flash files with a spherical Flash logo you click to play. Very useful, especially when I'm on a linux box with no soundserver.
http://flashblock.mozdev.org/
(if you're wondering what a soundserver is, you'll need to know how sound works in Linux: without one there's only one way to play sound, and that's to talk to the drivers directly; which blocks all other programs. there are programs called soundservers which access the drivers and then programs connect to THAT program. The problem is that many programs that play sound, especially ported ones like Skype, will NOT use the soundserver, so I have to turn it off and then juggle my programs around. Flash player is really picky about the sound and if it cannot access the sound card drivers, it doesnt make ANY sound until I reboot firefox.)

What do you mean "like Sony"?
Last time I checked, FF was a (crap) franchise by SQUARE-ENIX, not Sony... And they publish games for other consoles besides the PlayStation.
I don't get what Sony has to do with this at all.
Loque @ May 27th 2006 3:28AM
The best robot chicken moment was the first skit I ever saw.
Giraffe eating, and BAM hit by a train.
wtf?
Tapio @ May 27th 2006 8:02AM
@Frodo
No a slew of references is not funny. But a slew of references delivered in a funny way is funny. which is what robot chicken does. And yeah.. people's tastes differ, personally I can't stand Aqua Teen Hunger force, but I don't go around saying that it sucks, I just don't like it. Oh and, fat sony fanboy, i remember you from the sony vs nintendo thread.. go to hell you douchebag.
