For the most part, Sony really didn't become popular because of games, but because of brand. Most of the good games were stolen from Nintendo consoles (Metal Gear, Final Fantasy) where they would have remained if Nintendo had come out with CD instead of carts in its Nintendo 64 console. They can and will just as easily lose these developers. Konami (MGS 4) is already giving Nintendo the win in Japan by 3 or 4 to 1, and Famitsu (the largest gaming magazine in Japan) supports this conclusion via a recent poll. Expect Konami developers to switch most of their development over to Wii in the near future. That is just the smart business decision, and with polls like this showing a similar mass movement in the US, they really have no choice! Wii or die!

Just looking at the results...you know, according to this poll, Sony's "approval rating" is currently lower than President Bush's.

That can't be a good thing for Sony.

Wii60. Nintendo's games are a lot of fun, and the firm's feet remain firmly planted, yet they don't shy away from finding ways to improve gaming's appeal, while still keeping things accessible.

Microsoft's software lineup by year-end is looking promising, but they give you the OPTION of next-gen, and won't make you swallow the additional cost with the machine at the off-set, for the privilege to take part in a guinea pig program for an unproven media format, whose very existence is resting on what happens in the months following Nov 17...Reminds me of these speciality graphics cards that digital artists go ga-ga about, that are specially made for the purpose. Stunning, but never likely to filter down, due to their very nature.

While, I like the implication that you would have to have the rare am ex black card to be able to afford a PS3, I do think that the pic along with title and description are going to effect your poll. You should at least have spoken unbiasedly about each console. Fo instance you could have said, "in the wake of E3", or "now that we have an idea of all of the pricepoints for the next round of games consoles". But, by saying that the new poll is because of PS3 pricing specifically you are over influencing the voting public and so your results will be flawed.

earlier: DS < PSP (in terms of power)
now : DS >>>> PSP

Same formula with Wii, it will keep getting better, user friendly, more games (third party dev will come back to their home) and fun.

For those that don't want to move so much, I believe Nintendo have been thinking about this. I think every (non-warioware-style) game will be able to be costumized either sensitivity of the movement or the control. Take a look at the DS, many games require the touch screen still they provide an alternative control scheme that only needs to press buttons. The same with Wii especially since Nintendo has announced the classic controller.

Wii is a perfect family gaming console. How many of you that are parents and wants to give a bit of experience of what you played during NES era to your son?

So that's it, other than graphic power (which less significant for me and perhaps many people) Wii wins

I added up all the percentages that included some combination of each console:

A combo that includes the Wii: 87%
A combo that includes the 360: 59%
A combo that includes the PS3: 21%

People just need to decide what they want their second console of choice to be, the PS3 or the XBox 360?

I picked the Wii and PS3 as the two I'm going after. I will more then likely first go after the Wii first soon after it drops because it's a good console for me playing games with my sister (who's younger then me BTW) and overall good for family gaming. And I can still play old GC games still.

Later I will go after the PS3 because it has quite a lot of the games that me alone wants to play (like FF13, GTA4 and if the roomer is true the remake of FF7 for example).

I did not pick the 360 because for the fact that to me it's just largely a online/LAN gamer console that now resembles a small computer (with the add on of the HD-DVD drive) that with in the next year or so will be used mostly just to play Halo and have racist little kids fronting on how "1337" they are. That's not for me getting breaded on by little kids or for the rest of my family as a matter of fact.

People here are failing to realize that just because you write doenot make it true. Those who want a console will want it regarless of the price. I for one want a PS3, and will buy one at lanch, but even if I couldnot afford it doesnot mean I would buy a Wii or 360 2 consoles i donot want. What is worse spending 600 dollars on 2 consoles that you don't really care for or over spending on a console you really want and are excited about getting. Sony sold way more consoles last gen than either xbox or GC donot underestimate that. Sony has a built in market and the average person looking to buy a next gen console will more than likely look to see what Sony is offering before anyone else. Sure Nintendo is the "feel good" little guy people almost instinctively root for but at the end of the day that willnot sell consoles world wide. Playstation is the only video game platform to sell equally well the world over and though this doesnot garuantee future sucess it gives Sony a big advantage over Nintendo and Microsoft from which to start.

I think the choice is pretty clear... if you want to donate an organ in order support Sony's push for a new video format, then the Playstation 3 is definitely for you.

If you're more interested in games, then the Wii60 combo is the way to go.

I already have an Xbox 360 and will be picking up a Wii this fall. I'll get to play Resident Evil 5, GTA4, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Mario Galaxy, Zelda, Smash Bros, Lost Odyssey, Halo 3, Fable 2 and Ninja Gaiden... all the old great franchises and the brand news ones like Gears of War.

Talking with some EBgames employees at the mall today, I asked "So, that PS3 is going to be a hard sale after the early adopters, eh?" and both these guys go "No, no way man, it's going to sell like crazy, just look at how much the 360 was going for on Ebay".

It's interesting to see so many people so sure that anyone and everyone will drop that kind of coin for a PlayStation. The truth of the matter is, Sony is losing consumers because of the package size/cost and is not gaining any to replace those lost customers. It appears that no matter how you slice it Sony will have less of a market share next generation than they have now. All signs point to them falling off the top spot.

Sony's fanbase is eroding quickly. Famitsu polls in Japan and Joystiq and other polls in the US confirm this. Who do you think the media is going to be crowing about this Christmas? Sony? $600 price tag? No way. Nintendo and MS will get most of the press in the US. Sony will manufacture some, but demand will not be what they expect, at that price!

The DS has far outsold the PSP, and is still gaining momentum. Developers, for the most part (70% or more of the big ones including Konami) all see Nintendo winning this time around.

To whoever said you can vote more than once in this poll, I checked it out and it filters those out. It says, "I'm sorry, you've already voted in this poll."

These poll results are not in question, certainly not for that reason. That is a pretty big group of voters, maybe the largest I have seen since the original console platter poll.

Definitely in line with polls conducted by other pollsters.

The only big surprise here is how low Sony has fallen. I was expecting a 20% market share in the US and 30% in Japan, but they are more like 12%! That is 3% less than the GameCube's market share now! Could Nintendo Wii beat Sony PS3 by more than the PS2 beat the GameCube? It's looking that way!

I chose Wii only. I've been happy with my Gamecube and I don't expect Wii to disappoint me. I almost chose the Wii60 combination, and I might change my mind in the future if the price of the 360 drops and the 360 gets a redesign (so it's not as loud, etc.). But for now Wii has all the games I'm interested in (ALL the games, the GC games, the SNES, the NES and so much more) + a new way to play games, so it's almost a no-brainer.

As for PS3, I'm sure there will be people who will buy the console but I won't be one of them. If Blu-Ray wins the HD-Disc wars I'd rather buy a stand alone player than the PS3. I'm sure the PS3 will have some amazing games, but for now I'm just not sure it's worth the price.

Wow. You are totally unbiased.

360s HAVE been overheating. A lot. Even ones that are kept well. The fact that your 360 doesn't means nothing. I've accepted enough of them in my place of work (to send for repairs) to realize this.

Besides. Unless it's covered in thick wool, the console should be able to handle heats well outside standard output. Hell, I've got my consoles blocked in a TV cabinet, and nothing has happened to them yet. So why should the 360 freeze up when others haven't?

If I wanted a HDmovie player, I would consider the PS3, but atm I don't need one, and in a few years, when the HD war is decided, I can either buy a HDDVD addon for the 360, or a bluray player seperatly after the hype is over and the prices are right!

I voted for the xbox 360 becuase I have one and after e3 iam even more happy I own one becuase it had the best showcase of games to me at e3.If I had to choose bewteen another system Id pick the Wii becuase it looks fun and im anxious to play it.The only reason id buy the ps3 on the other hand if for mgs4.Thats my favorite franchise and the reason I would have waited for the ps3.But i did some research and came up with the conxlusion tat hideo isnt stupid enough to leave mgs4 exclusive for ps3 forever no way. He said he had nothing against xbox 360 and the only reason he didnt make it for 360 is because he was working on mgs3 subsistance and the 360 was coming to early for him to have the time he needed for mgs4.He also said he likes to be the first to inovate for a console and he missed the boat for the 360 so he would just make it for ps3.Also Assains creed another great game was orginally called project ofset and for the 360 now its assains creed and headed for the ps3?Also at e3 it was rumered the game was being played with a 360 remote and when questioned if the game was going to be available for the 360 they didnt deny it.My guess sony paid them some cash to stay shut about it coming to 360 until e3 was over.So to me my quesioned was solved I no longer need to buy the ps3.Buy the way canadian geeses web link you'd be surprised or not

And for the 360 being a glorified PC, YES, it's glorified. *rolls eyes*
It's the ONLY platform where you can play Madden in next-gen. PCs have to cater for the lower market with those gamers having a GeForce FX 5200, and you have that damn s****y hardware abstraction layer to just decrease performance. The 360 doesn't have any of these, and XNA bumps up developing efficency.

For the Wii, I might buy it, but after figuring out they doctored their E3 videos... nah. Example: Super Mario Galaxy runs in a 42' LCD with no pixelation. Kudos! The Wii runs at 480p MAX, remember?
Playing is sure believing, but seeing is not.

Me? I'm getting a 360, and if Big N confesses that those trailers were fake, a Wii.

My next console will be a Nintendo Wii. I am 100% buying one and I would never have thought such a thing a few years ago. I have a renewed respect for Nintendo as true pioneers in gaming, particularly since they released the DS.

I'll also be buying a DS Lite because I love my girlfriend's one!

I know me and my friend couldn't have been the only ones. Not that it was of any use when it wasn't a brick, with the poor selection of titles.

PSWii is the best. May starve for a month, but atleast it'll be two consoles with half-way decent software libraries and (hopefully) better manufacturing.
