SA's Photoshop Phriday: Grandma doesn't get video games

Most Grandmas don't get video games. One of mine watched, with vulgar curiosity, as I scaled skyscrapers and snatched civilians in the craptacular Rampage. The other wrapped her arthritic claws around a Gameboy and spent hours -- hours -- playing Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle.
But the reality is that most Grandmas fall into the former camp, and so it is that Something Awful's latest Photoshop Phriday honors these geriatric non-gamers. My favorite: Make Sure It's Two Person: So Your Sister Can Play Too. That one's a classic.

So the Daily Poke at Playstation Brand and Big Hit Franchise that MGS...which is wait...Only for the PS3 and renowned for the PS systems.
Nice way to making a BS story...Your real intentions are very clear.
Neo @ May 28th 2006 12:17PM
Uhm, cyrix_0, I think you're reading a bit too much into things...
And the coverage of the PS3 has been pretty fair IMHO. If you go back a few months, you'll recall all the 360 fans complaining about how anti-360 joystiq is... and so forth.
At least you know you're impartial when *everyone* accuses you of playing for the other side...
Badison @ May 28th 2006 12:27PM
Chill out, ha ha. Jeez. That's a great link/ps phriday!
rhork. @ May 28th 2006 12:53PM
cyrix- chill.
But, seriously- comments wouldn't be any fun to read if everyone was rational.
=p
Funny how I didn't realize until now that every grandma/parent mimics that phrase.
sonofnone @ May 28th 2006 12:55PM
This is why why when it comes to grandmas and video games you gotta go with the gift card. God bless granny.
Doug the Aquacell Guy @ May 28th 2006 1:02PM
I think I remember talking to my grandpa about Star Fox Adventures when I saw him the day before I beat it. The poor man.
"And so I had to use the SHARPCLAW SUIT because it told me to see things through the eyes of a Sharpclaw..." That one actually took me forever to figure out.
Geist @ May 28th 2006 1:04PM
No, cyrix, see, Joystiq is obviously all PS fanboys. See, like, last post there were all like "Here is a picture of the PS3. It is teh awesome." and then before they're like "Xbox Live? More like GayBox Live, miright?" and then before that they're all like "We want to make love to Kutaragi." I mean, they didn't ACTUALLY say that, but it's there if you read into it. Total fanboys, man.
I used to think you were cool Joystiq.
;)
dkh @ May 28th 2006 1:18PM
They are totally making fun of a huge PlayStation flagship series.... by poking fun at a game that's on the GameCube.
To be fair, not that many people heard about Twin Snakes and the fact that it was on the Cube AND an exclusive is less well-known. It's not like it says "Only for Nintendo Gamecube" on the top of the box or anything.
David D @ May 28th 2006 1:35PM
See, that just shows how amazingly brilliant Joystiq is. They can bash the PS3 by showing a humorous artwork of a photoshopped Gamecube cover.
"Your real intentions are very clear."
I'm more thinking that your lack of intelligence is what is clear. Secretly they love the 360 most, and they're bashing a PS franchise and showing a Gamecube cover, leaving only the glorious Xbox unscathed from their merciless fanboyish wrath.
So.....freaking....sad.
benjamin @ May 28th 2006 2:18PM
My favorites:
"How do you rewind these Intendo tapes"- my sisters always used to say "intendo". Hilarious!
"Sim I remember when all this used to be fields"- I've heard my grandparents rattle that cliché off more than once...
and "Brazen Hussy"- there's just something inherently funny about the word "hussy"!
It's the artist's wit that makes them funny, not the quality of the photoshopping.
Unlike Me @ May 28th 2006 2:23PM
Fat Sony Fanboy, wtf!? Have you never been to somethingawful.com? You obviously havn't, its has the greatest forum ever, and these Photoshop Phridays are hilarious.
Fuck off you stupid $ony Fanboy.
Rockstar Superstar @ May 28th 2006 2:26PM
You guys are so dumb, you are probally gonna get hacked or something (probally) if you say Something Awful is a fanboy site. They are infact the opposite, with no fanboyish views whats so ever. Great community.
SA Photoshop rock on!
Gimbal @ May 28th 2006 2:29PM
How in the hell did someone manage to derail a Photoshop Phriday link about our grandparent's take on video gaming into some misguided accusation of Joystiq's bias? You people kill me...
But not nearly as much as "How do you rewind these intendo tapes" did. LMAO Brings me back to the time when parents would call playing video games of any kind as "playing Intendo", as illustrated by the 360 box relabelled as Nintendo. Does the older generation of non-video game players still do that kind of stuff? I'm 32 now so I'm out of the loop as far as that goes.
Duhh @ May 28th 2006 2:34PM
David D, I think you havn't read this article too well. This isn't fanboyism, its a Photoshop contest (for fun) about how Grandma's see videogames, get it?
Good! (Now bag my groceries, stupid jock!)
voice of reason @ May 28th 2006 2:40PM
someone really needs to kill fat sony fanboy.....
like right now!!!
Fredrik Dunder @ May 28th 2006 3:03PM
i do not see the point of posting an SA PS on this blog.
what's next? 4chan?
Rein @ May 28th 2006 3:54PM
The sad thing is, my sister ALWAYS asks me if my games are two players so that she can play, and she usually gets pissed off when I tell her no. Although, the only game we usually play together is Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, or Super Smash Bros.
Besides, she's the worst video game player ever. I swear, if she asks me if MGS is two player again... *shakes fist*
mrk @ May 28th 2006 4:05PM
"Grandma's"
Bad grammar alert! Bad grammar alert!
alex @ May 28th 2006 4:21PM
Fat Sony Fanboy asd well as Darth Pixel can fuck off and die.
And Cyrix...
Not that MGS has been on any systems besides Sony ones before, because we ALL know Metal Gear originated from Ken Kuturagi. (And his tentacle porn addiction is getting out of hand, btw)
Just like MGS4 is PS3 exclusive. HAHAHAHA.
Don't kid yourself.
I heard that Madden is only going to be put on the Gizmondo!!!111shiftone
pennywise969 @ May 28th 2006 5:05PM
Im guessing that none of you have stairs in your houses.
BennoWii @ May 28th 2006 5:35PM
SomethingAwful is really the greatest site out there. If I wasn't a 16 year old without a credit card I would join the forums like that. But lurking will have to do for now :(
This Photoshop Phriday is really one of the best, except for the most part I can't sympathize, because my Grandma kicked ass at Rad Racer.
P.S: Yes, I have stairs...in my Doom Hose.
cringer8 @ May 28th 2006 6:17PM
Rewinding videogame tapes is no joke. I rewound my Coleco ADAM version of Dragon Slayer and Zaxxon by hand and they never worked again :(
Thank God my Donkey Kong Jr. cassette was safely stuck in tape drive 2.
David D @ May 28th 2006 7:47PM
Um, no, I read it just fine. In case no one noticed, my comment was drenched with sarcasm. I guess it is scary when such a blatantly ridiculous idea like I stated can be taken semi-seriously.
Jordan @ May 28th 2006 11:28PM
I started playing video games because of my grandma. She had beat Super Mario World (w/ Game Genie haha) and Donkey Kong Country. She got me Donkey Kong country and other stuff. She played a lot of SNES. But, like my mother, they both stopped at SNES. “It got too complicated.”
LaughingMan @ May 28th 2006 11:52PM
OK between this and the Mega Man stuff, I might have to change my mind about video game humor (which I thought was never funny) I loved the "Sim: I remember when this was all fields" That made me laugh out loud.
Merus @ May 29th 2006 4:48AM
I'm starting to wonder if Fat Sony Fanboy isn't someone pretending to be a seriously disturbed Sony fan to see how long before someone twigs. Otherwise, we're left with the prospect that the poor kid is in fact seriously disturbed and may need to stop playing games for a little bit.
I really liked "The Man At The Store Said This Was A Good Game" and the Nintendo Xbox one.
anon @ May 29th 2006 4:57AM
well, lets consider the fact that
a) the title has nothing to do with any console
b) the picture was not created by joystiq
c)this was intended to be a humor contest, not a console basher
Creig @ May 29th 2006 10:46AM
Haha chris...you've always been a metal gear solid fan =P. And hey...wheres my t-shirt I won on the radio!

Jeez, try to think about the context. If Grandma controls the purchasing decisions it no surprise the console will be the only brand she can recognize in relation to video games. Not to denigrate the GameCube but a kid lusting after fare geared for a more mature audience is naturally going to have 'The Twin Snakes' very high on his list of choices. Only to be shot down once again by a Grandma who cannot see the sense in letting a game monopolize the TV if it won't keep both kids quiet.
Starting to make sense now?
epobirs @ May 29th 2006 1:31PM
I have to admit, any grandparent observing a kid willingly playing State of Emergency is probably dead on in that remark.
Oncnawan @ May 29th 2006 4:42PM
David D.:
Don't lose hope, yet. The rest of us caught your sarcasm, even without a "/sarcasm" tag.
I recall Joystiq's criticism of the various bumps surrounding the Xbox 360's release. Joystiq didn't pull any punches regarding Nintendo's decision to name their console "Wii", either. The only reason they seem overly harsh concerning the PS3 is that Sony has given bloggers little positive to cover and a great deal of negative. In fact, some of Sony's decisions regarding this console are so laughable, the only way to cover them is through humor. (Disclaimer: I recognize that the art referenced a Gamecube game.)
