PSP Myst coming soon

Sega recently decided to introduce a whole new generation of mobile gamers to the classic Myst, and will release the bestselling adventure-puzzle game for the PSP next month in Japan. Midway Games will be taking care of business outside the Far East with a European version, although there are no immediate plans for the North American market.
The original Myst has now appeared on at least ten platforms over the past 12 years, including the Sega Saturn, Atari Jaguar, 3DO, CD-i, Amiga, and Pocket PC.

Only fair, it is one of the greatest games ever made. I have fond childhood memories involving Myst and my dad.

It'll work, as long as they're rid of the awkward live-action conversations.

Wonder if it is going to be more like the classic version or the realMyst version.

OH NOOOOOO. I love myst, but it should come out for the DS as well it would be perfect for it!!
Fanboy rant over I can accept that it would be slightly (by slightly I mean extremely) harder to port it DS especially with the lower storage capacities of the cartriges.

I've got a better question: who cares? With so many ways to play an outdated, barely-playable (if watching a slideshow = gameplay) title which is available in dozens of other permutations, why are they bothering?
Sorry, sometimes a spade is a spade, and Myst isn't relevant.

Whatever. I never really liked Myst series, so this isn't really going to sell me a PSP. I can't imagine playing it without a mouse either. I generally love adventure games though. I was always a fan of LucasArts and Sierra Online games.
As for us DS owners, never fret, we have Hotel Dusk: Room 215 to look forward to. Looks like some slick adventure gaming. Reminds me of Deja Vu. Not to mention Phoenix Wright 2. Good stuff.

Will it be the real-time realMYST game or the slideshow original? Eh, either way if it is succesful then Riven and the rest might come out which means some moeny for Cyan, which is always good.
They should have made URU:online for the Xbox originally but whatever. Can't say I didn't warn them.

I dont think it will be that hard to port, considering Resident Evil DS is on a gigabyte cart. The PC version rocks and I actually thought the actors did well with their performances. DS version please!

Ah yes, to add to the fanboy banter, yet another example of Sega's non-sensical system choices. Clearly this game would suit the DS far better in terms of interface, and considering the rather odd and exploratory nature of the game would probably suit its audience better as well.
Oh well.
Here's to the inevitable port of Sonic: Wild Fire to PS3 (which won't sell on it).

Chris (#6) Resident Evil DS is on a 1 Gigabit cartridge, which is only 128 MegaBytes. That's not to say that it's completely not possible. With some amazing compression and a few comprimises in quality, the DS could see the title, but my point is that the DS cartridges do not even come close to holding a GigaByte.
chris @ May 29th 2006 4:57PM
sorry, confusion there. Bits and bytes. 8 bits to 1 byte, 1024 bytes to a kilobyte, 1024 Kb to a Mb, ect. Its been a long day.

~now psp is truely a picture viewer.....

Has it come to this? Is 'Dragon's Lair PSP' in the works?
Alex K. @ May 29th 2006 8:33PM
a great game, but not a system seller. it's gonna probably be at least $30 for PSP. Why bother when you can get the Myst 10th anniversary collection for $20 with the first 3 Myst games?
and besides that, the newer PC versions of Myst are restored versions (they get better quality pictures from than original version and have higher res videos)

Well, as much as I like the Myst games, I am seriously disapointed by the idea of yet another port of this dated title. Yes its a classic, but gamers expect more than this for their money. Come on Sega, at least give us a compilation of myst games!
As for the DS, I think Myst would well with the touch screen - although it would have to be controlled in much the same way as the Opera browser (Zoomed in view on top screen, bottom screen to scroll.)
#7 Arnaldo: Uru on Xbox live? Is this a 'myst' oportunity? *drum roll*
