DS Lite is ready to Rumble (Pak)
Eager DS Lite anticipators can all get their red pens out and cross this one off their list of "DS Lite annoyances." Nintendo of Japan has a special reduced-size Rumble Pak for the smaller sized GBA port on the DS Lite, so if you're the kind of gamer who likes to keep the Pak in permanently, you won't have to deal with that ugly sticking-out thing. They're selling it from their site (machine translation here) for the same price as the larger Rumble Pak: 1200¥ (about $10). While there's been no announcement of any counterpart outside Japan, it's a reasonable expectation. It's less than a couple more weeks now ...

Now if they could only sell a device that could downsize out GBA cartiges... But last I checked shrink-ray devices on the internet are really expensive.
:D

So will the old one not work or does it just look stupid? If it is just a looks thing then its no big deal. If it doesnt work then it is a big deal.
Ive really been toying with the idea of trading in my launch day system for a shinny white one, but with the crappy $50.00 trade in credit at my local gamestop (and the damn bundle thing) as well as the loss (maybe) of this cool feature makes me wanna hold on to the big old one.

It is just a looks thing. Both the regular rumble pak and the Lite rumble pak will work on the DS Lite. Only the original rumble pak will work on the original DS.

I'll admit that I haven't tried this yet (my wife has Metroid Prime Pinball, but the rumble pak never left the box), but I do have a question:
I find it distracting when my console controller, which I'm not looking at, vibrates. How is it even possible to play when the DS, screens and all, are shaking?
teitoku @ May 30th 2006 2:25PM
But does the new smaller one still suck turtle nards? Does it actually RUMBLE, or just make little buzzy fart noises?
idioteraser @ May 30th 2006 2:48PM
If the people had actually bothered to read the manual that comes with the games supporting the rumble the noise is the rumble.
It doesn't shake your screen. Or the damn handheld. It gives a breif minor feel. In metroid prime pinball it replicates the noise of the pinball table. But odds are 99% of the complainers have never played a pinball game on a real pinball machine.
The noise is the rumble as the manual states.
The ds lite rumble pack is for the damn whiners who raised holy hell and because Nintendo realised that people who want something for looks are a prime suckers market. It is chickenfeed to make the ds lite rumble packs. It's pure profit for Nintendo to take advantage of litetards.

On a side note I can't wait to flog my original DS and PSP and buy a black DS Lite and an M3 adapter.
Can't believe I've had a PSP for a week and I've yet to feel any sign of wanting to keep it. Everyone advised me not to buy one too. I'm such a fool.
Momus @ May 30th 2006 3:49PM
The above three comments are so funny.

The PSP is not a bad system. It has come no where near its potential, but it still has some. I will keep mine until this fall’s Tekken, Metal of Honor and Call Of Duty come out. As for the DS with Mech Assault and the redesign I see a bright future. Let’s hope there is a PSP redesign soon with two analog sticks. Its going to be my only Sony fix for the next few years since the console has yet to impress me enough to buy it.

I like having my GBA cartridges stick out ½". It gives me a place to put my tiny drink while I'm playing.
silk.lamps @ May 31st 2006 12:10PM
I didn't buy it for my original DS and don't think I will get one for the Lite. Better to use that slot for a GBA game.

4. I'll admit that I haven't tried this yet (my wife has Metroid Prime Pinball, but the rumble pak never left the box)
It's worth giving a shot... I find it gives a real pinball table feel to the game...
