UK sales charts, May 21-27: Hitman hits the spot
With the World Cup due to kick off in under a fortnight, UK consumers are doing the obvious thing -- and buying Hitman: Blood Money. The football-themed titles are still strong in the charts, but Eidos' Agent 47 has overtaken them in its first week of release. The recent Sims 2 expansion keeps the original fresh, too.1. Hitman: Blood Money
2. FIFA World Cup Germany 2006
3. Pro Evolution Soccer 5
4. Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis
5. Tomb Raider: Legend
6. X-Men: The Official Game
7. Animal Crossing: Wild World
8. The Da Vinci Code
9. Championship Manager 2006
10. The Sims 2

I would like to apologise to the world on the bad taste shown by British gamers. I apologise that Brits are buying FIFA, X-Men and Da Vinci Code. I apologise that they are purchasing CM when they should be buying Football Manager. I apologise that unlike our frog neighbours (check out their charts), we have absolute no taste.
Unlike Me @ May 31st 2006 7:47AM
I would like to apologise for Monkeys extremley low IQ.
Most of these games are great on that list, except for X-Men: The Official Game and, The Da Vinci Code.
Duhr, you're pathetic. Blood Money is a great game, I got this for 360 and i'm having a ton of fun on it.

Why did you say FIFA is a bad game, Monkey? You are clearly wrong. Are you from the States? The World Cup is starting, its only natural that the sales go up in Soccer games (Its called football, but i'll use soccer instead so I don't confuse anyone). Just like Madden gets to the top of your sales when the Superbowl starts. Hey, atleast FIFA is a solid, playable game, unlike the latest Madden, that game was a shitfest, buggy as hell.

Nintendo UK really should have spent a bit of money advertising Metroid Prime: Hunters on TV.. it should be in the charts.
The DS is typically a lot stronger in the charts..

@UnlikeMe, thank you for pointing out what an idiot you are. Nobody said Blood Monkey isn't a good game.
Instead I was refering to FIFA, X-Men, Da Vinci Code and CM (read my post carefully first).
And considering that those crappy games are populating the chart I think its fair to say that the British gaming market is very dull.
Ianc02 @ May 31st 2006 8:07AM
Don't we buy some crap here in the UK?
*ashamed of our charts*

Silly american, just because you grab sweaty men as your main sport, it doesn't make Football over here a bad sport or game. I've played many games on Xbox Live and its pretty fun.
Xmen reached the charts because of the new Movie release, duhh. Same can be said for Da vinvi code. Nice try though.
Also, you said Blood Monkey. ahuehueha.
ALH @ May 31st 2006 8:26AM
To be fair, every shop has walls and walls of da vinci code, xmen, crazy frog and other low quality trash. You have to look through piles and piles to get to the good stuff, and joe public dont really have the patience to be doing that. Decent games just dont get a look in,im surprised animal crossing is still on there though, gj nintendo :)

Out of those games, I like Hitman and Tomb Raider the best. I've always really liked the UK's taste in just about everything, including games.
I especially love the accent! I loved hearing Lara Croft as much as I liked seeing her.
jaemz @ May 31st 2006 8:34AM
OMG, there is a Crazy Frog game? Pleeeeeeeeeas don't tell my girlfriend as I will never hear the end of it.
It took me nearly a year to get the ding-ding-diiiiing- ding-a-bonnnggggg out of my head as it is.
Is it any goo... scrap that, I don't even want to know.
martin @ May 31st 2006 9:13AM
It isn't just the UK guys. Look at all the past movie games. There really aren't that many good ones out there. They keep making them though, why??? BECAUSE THEY SELL!!! This is always the case with a game tied into the big movie release. They are in the top charts for a week while the movie comes out, and then they die and end up in tons of used bins never to profit the company again.
sgt manji @ May 31st 2006 9:58AM
Also, people who know about games (unlike the casual gamer) won't really make a dent in the charts. It all relies on the casual gamers (except maybe japan). hey, spiderman 2 was on there once ... stop getting so rational over sales charts.
krazyman @ May 31st 2006 10:09AM
I tired the Hitman Demo for 360, and it just made me feel evil. I also tried the World Cup Demo and I suck at it. If the Table Tennis game goes down to $20, I might consider getting it. I don't see myself playing $40 for a table tennis game.

Fanboys, there is nothing wrong with the charts. Wake up people the UK, USA and the whole world is not Japan. Not everyone likes games where every character looks 10 years old; boys look like girls, huge heads, manga, or use a touch screen to touch a dog. It's funny how fanboys get when someone play any game not made for Nintendo. Let people play wherever they want.
Hame @ May 31st 2006 11:46AM
MP:Hunters actually got to number 5 or 6 I think.

"Wake up people the UK, USA and the whole world is not Japan."
Maybe that's our problem.

There is always the option of moving to Japan. It's always easier to kiss ass when distance is not in the equation. And once you get there you can dress like a samurai and call yourself yakomisutkikosaojitzo, also try to speaking like if you are constipated; works well specially when taking a dump.
Geist @ May 31st 2006 12:29PM
Anata wa er.....stupid! Desu.
Lol I am teh japanese.
Eh. Everyone has their own tastes, often its a reflection of culture. Sales charts tend to reflect this. It's how every time a madden game comes out, inexplicably it seems to hit the charts, despite it being just like the previous ones (or, in case of early 360 stuff, gimped versions of previous versions!)

I may have interpreted my message incorrectly. I was merely amused at the cultural differences between the two nations, not the 'appauling' charts for the UK or Japan. So no, I was not critcising UK's taste.
