Well, if they stick a harddisk on it, it has already beaten the PSP. And that would probably win over the homebrew community to. Microsoft could also play it more friendly for homebrew unlike the PS2 is.

Anyway, even if microsoft comes with a handheld it would be hard/impossible for them to tackle up to nintendo. Allthough, they could very easily steal the touchscreen idea. Yeah, if one comes out, expect it to have a touchscreen.

it's a good idea... to help retain their console user base. If I have a 360... but wanna game on the go.. I currently have a choice between psp / ds (hell I have both)....
anyhoots the otherwise loyal xbox gamer today is exposed to nintendo and sony via handhelds... if they fall in love they may swith consoles.
so producing a handheld is also a way to shore-up loyalty

"Rumores volant. Rumors fly."
That should be "volEnt"; your translation equates to "flying rumors". Come to think of it, changing the English would be cooler.

xbox live anywhere, i dont know how many people are willing to pay another $50 a year for a handheld subscription whilst psp and ds have free.

the ds is outselling psp by alot, but think, the psp costs twice as more than its competition yet sony have shipped 17 million units. i dont think thats a failure, a failure is when you make a 5 billion loss after you say your console is gonna be the best and top selling console. peter more also thinks he can sell 1 billion xbox 360 units, isnt that 1/6th of the population of the world? obviously he forgot about two small products, ps3 and wii.

soon after this xboys release, psp2 and nintendo qs (quad-screen) are gonna come out. also sony will have gained alot of experience in the handheld market, xboy will be new. and remember what happed when microsoft first made its way into the gaming market - xbox 180.

and the idea of xbox live anywhere is not anywhere, how can you have xbox live whilst travelling?

in terms of content the psp will have many ps1 games, the ds is backwards compatible with gba. microsoft arent good with gaming, their xbox 360 is a broken machine.

I'm with SuicideNinja; If they come out with a pda that can play games, I'll be on it like a fiend. Considering that it's microsoft, that's what they might just end up doing. Giving it the ability to communicate with the 360 and a Windows os computer would really open it up to more than just gamers.
There's a couple of more things they have to do:

Don't use disks. Or anything else that will eat up the battery in 3 hrs. Give it a hard drive we can hook up to our computer or 360.

Make it sturdy. Nintendo is great at this, Sony is terrible at it. If it's supposed to be portable, it should be able to take a couple of falls.

Don't just make it for gamers. Nintendo is just starting to do this now.

Don't market it against the ipod. It won't work.
I love the DS and the psp has a couple of good games (but nothing that would've made it worth putting $250 down for it; just glad I got one of those free ones) but I still use my GB micro for my everyday commute. And of all the carts I use, my gbamp spends most of the time in that slot. Call me a nerd but being able to read ebooks and listen to music on the same thing has freed up allot of space in my pockets.
