Any chance they've ironed out the bugs for the Mac release? Even with the latest patches the game still crashes out on me a lot towards the end in windows.
Geist @ Jun 4th 2006 3:09PM
What? Mac gamers are a myth. Like Bigfoot. Or cottage cheese. Don't be spreadin' them lies! LIES I SAY!
;p
Jammie @ Jun 4th 2006 3:31PM
I've had that game for ages. I thought it was so 1337 when I first got it...then I discovered Counter Strike...
sabre @ Jun 4th 2006 4:20PM
That's fitting...since there are only 4 Mac gamers.
:-P
Jay @ Jun 4th 2006 4:38PM
No wonder Sabre has -2 stars
Civ4. It would be nice if it was problem-free. The PC version I played was horrendous, this was before the updates came out though. I hope it improved since then. Otherwise it would be a smart addition to the Mac gaming scene.
sabre @ Jun 4th 2006 4:41PM
It's called a joke buddy...ligthen up...plus it wasn't THAT far-fetched to begin with.
Ryan Williams @ Jun 4th 2006 5:08PM
Heh, only just coming out on the Mac? Dear oh dear. :~
Richard @ Jun 4th 2006 5:09PM
I remeber waiting for this to come out for my mac but then it was so popular on gamespot I said screw it and built a pc just to play it. So Civ 4 cost me $2000, haha
Osiris @ Jun 4th 2006 5:47PM
I bet you were disappointed Richard.
With the Civ4 that is. Haha
Genghis @ Jun 4th 2006 7:40PM
I've been playing this on my Mac for a while now. The only annoying thing about it is that I have to boot into Windows to do it. Sure does look nice on a 20" widescreen, though. Oh, it's being released for OSX? That's different.
Good to see that some games swing both ways. Universal binaries, too. That's cool.
So Richard, too bad you didn't wait until Boot Camp came out or you could have bought a 20" iMac and a legal copy of Windows and it still would have cost you less than $2000. Come to think of it if all you wanted to do was play Civ 4 you could have done it on a $400 PC. My laptop runs it just fine. Ah well, to each his own.
sabre @ Jun 4th 2006 8:26PM
Yea if you paid $2000 to play Civ4, then I have one word:
sucker
...sorry!
Richard @ Jun 4th 2006 10:35PM
Well I don't have a macbookpro and I wanted a pc to play games on because I hated waiting for games to be converted over.
sabre @ Jun 4th 2006 10:46PM
I didn't mean "sucker" b/c you bought a PC...I mean't "sucker" b/c you paid so much to play a game that doesn't require a $2000 computer...even newer FPS don't require a $2000 computer.
Concerned citizen @ Jun 4th 2006 11:18PM
Well, if he paid $2000 in his new PC is because he can, people with small wages who can´t afford a $2000 PC or Mac surely will think that only a "sucker" would pay that.
Call a guy who earns enough to buy a $2000 PC a sucker can put things in perspective and tell a lot about you...
sabre @ Jun 5th 2006 12:58AM
Wow yet another person assuming that b/c I criticized someone on what they buy I am some 16 year old kid. You can be Bill Gates and I would still call you a "sucker" or question a purchase if it was careless.
cringer8 @ Jun 5th 2006 2:54AM
@sabre
$2000 is a perfectly reasonable amount of money to spend on a top 'o the line gaming rig with lasting power.
Sure, you could spend less to play today's games, but give it three years and you'll be spending again on upgrades.
Isn't that Sony's message on the PS3? Spend twice as much for a system that will remain current for twice as long?
I guess anyone purchasing a PS3 is a "sucker," too.
sabre @ Jun 5th 2006 3:11AM
True you do have a point...BUT...based on what he wrote he did bought that computer to play Civ4 (hardly a hardware intensive game.)
cringer8 @ Jun 5th 2006 4:15AM
True, sabre, he could have worded it better. I think Civ4 inspired him (a Mac owner) to finally invest in a PC.
The fact that he spent $2000 on it would imply (IMO) that he intends on using it as a gaming rig in general. Of course, I could be wrong...only Richard knows for sure. I'm not one for making assumptions ;)
Billy G @ Jun 5th 2006 8:25AM
'I guess anyone purchasing a PS3 is a "sucker," too.'
In a word, yes.
jman @ Jun 5th 2006 9:49AM
i love how a topic can change from Civ4 coming out on mac to buying ps3's makes someone a sucker...
SLy O.o @ Jun 5th 2006 10:39AM
jman,
Ever heard of Godwin's Law?. It is common knowledge that Hitler and the PS3 can be used interchangeably.
manic @ Jun 5th 2006 10:50AM
Has anyone running bootcamp successfully run CIV-IV on their new Macbooks yet (even at the lowest possible graphics quality but at 1280x800)? Im getting one soon and would like to know if it would run because of the integrated graphics. I think it should, being a turn based game and all. Note-2GB ram equipped macbook
josh @ Jun 5th 2006 3:50PM
As a game-related aside, for anyone who is a fan of the Civ series and hasn't played IV yet... it's great. The game mechanic changes all work really well and make it more playable, the UI is polished and way better organized... The game itself feels more balanced, and there is a bunch of new stuff. The religion element is really well-done, and the culture element is fixed in IV (I thought it was flawed in 3). If you like turn-based strategy games, this is a must-buy, in my opinion. It's good for co-op play too: me and my girlfriend have whiled away many an hour playing this, me on my PC, her on her laptop, against the computer. It's fun because she really likes the game, unlike most of the games I tend to play.
