Dance pad for DDR DIYers

Is your plastic, roll-up DDR pad seriously crimping your krumping? Do you need the solid feel of an arcade pad to grant you the superhuman celerity that marks the series? Yeah, that's what I keep telling myself also. If you know your way around some tools, have some basic welding experience (what, you don't?), and have the requisite dedication to house a rather unwieldy dance pad, this'll make for a fun weekend project.

Or you can buy a big ol' metal DDR dance platform just like the ones in the arcade for around $200 (from redoctane).

That thing just spells broken ankles.

...or bust and cut up ankles if you happen to break the material from jumping on it too hard.

homebrew pads are nothing new, I'd rather buy a Cobalt Flux anyway

Yeah, I've had a Cobalt Flux for two years now and other than having to buy a new control box it still works marvelously. I couldn't use a homebrew pad...I'd be too afraid I'd break it and destroy my beautiful creation. This one looks awesome though.

I'm loving the DIY project links around here today. Keep that stuff coming.

Easier (and probably) cheaper to get a Cobalt Flux, and that will last you forever.

this one looks really creative , nice desing and cool lighting system
i would like to see pump it up metal panels to buy

Easier and cheaper wasn't really the point. There's a certain satisfaction to be had from building something yourself. For example, IF you have the ability, wouldn't you rather build your own PC?
I could have bought a MAS stick (arcade quality fighting game joystick), but I researched a little and built my own. Not that I expect most video gamers to be able to change a tire, much less build a homebrew pad, but if you have the desire and ability to do it, it's a great feeling in the end.
