Bjork vs. Reporter. Round One. Fight!

Remember when Björk went all Chun-Li on that reporter? If not, we'll refresh your memory. In 1996, upon arriving at the Bangkok International Airport after finishing her Asian tour, and due to some perceived transgression, Björk grabbed reporter Julie Kaufman by the hair and proceeded to give her what for. Out of such misery comes ... a Street Fighter II spoof. See Björk reprise her role in the video, embedded after the break.

Whoah, that's hilarious. I never expected that out of someone like her.... I mean, she's just so mellow.
Maybe her monthly visitor was there. :)

Actually, that said reporter kept asking her and her son unwanted questions for days... there's no wonder why she got fed up when she found out that the stupid reporter had followed her all the way to Bangkok.

That was awesome.

Man, I love her music, but she's one wacky mofo.
I'd bet a hundred dollars that at the end the voice of Tricky was inside her head, coaxing "FINISH HER!"

If the world was a better place, Bjork would dominate the U.S. charts and she would be appreciated as one of the most gifted performers of our time.
She exudes an insight and intelligence that shames many contemporary shallow celebrities.
Why the heck she freaked out is anyone's guess. I think it was an exception to her normal behavior and an isolated incident. Time will tell. If she puts a figure four leg lock on an elderly Wal-Mart greeter then we'll know she's certifiable.

She freaked out at the reporter because earlier, that reporter kept wanting to take photos of her and the baby.
Never f*ck with a new mother!

LOL...nice SF redux.
To this day, that Bjork video is one of my favorites. It makes me laugh every time.

Hmmm actually I don't remember this at all. A spoof like this would have been much funnier ten years ago when it was actually breaking news.
DCSimian @ Jun 6th 2006 2:44PM
Can someone explain what people find appealing in Bjork's music? I'm genuinely asking, as I'm curious to know. People that listen to her paint her to be the music messiah, while others just think she's plain weird...
Clear it up for me! :-)

Actually, the reason Bjork beat up the reporter is because she had recently been informed of a mail bomb sent to her house by a crazed fan that killed himself after sending the mail bomb http://et.tv.yahoo.com/tv/3443/
A little more than a "transgression," the truth makes the video tasteless.

In response to DCSimian: If words were clothes, she'd use a shoe for a hat...and it'd look good. She uses words is ways that are unexpected and clever. At her best she does this so that her re-imaging of a word or thought seems like an epiphany to better understanding that word or idea.
Her singing also uses unorthodox syles, rhythms and annunciation to convey her perspective, her take on her worldview. Her unabashed wierdness invites further inspection and conveys a passion for finding truths and at least alternatives to conventional life.
It's sort of like the beauty of a child's perspective in that what one person might overlook as mundane, she finds interesting, personified or wonderous.
At least that's what I think. Although, I used to melt crayons on the radiator in first grade when the teacher wasn't looking, so take the source into consideration.
Andy S. @ Jun 6th 2006 4:10PM
Gary, you obviously haven't heard her _Drawing Restraint 9_ album, then.
If words were clothes, this would be her crapping in a hat and asking her fans to wear it.
ThePredator @ Jun 6th 2006 6:53PM
Also, Gary, she doesn't just sing, she's a writer, producer, composer, singer. Programing synths, writing string sections, etc.
