Bethesda released the
v1.1 Oblivion patch for the PC today. The Xbox 360 patch (via Xbox Live) should follow tomorrow. The patch fixes a number of bugs that range from nuisances to issues that render the game unplayable, or at least, prevent players from advancing certain quest lines. The patch also "corrects" these popular glitches:
- Fixed infinite gold issue on some dead NPCs
- Fixed an issue with duplicating items and unequipping the bow
- In 'Till Death Do They Part' (quest), the Count no longer rewards player with gold more than once
Tip: Before you update, consider cashing in on the Count's generosity or
Dorian's deep pockets. And use your fleeting "cloning magic" to stockpile those potions and soul gems.

This is cool and all, but is anybody still actually playing this? I beat oblivion and something like 90% of the sidequests over 3 weeks ago. I mean crap, I've beaten the whole HoMM5 campaign in the meantime.
I'm just saying... I would have preferred a quicker patch release, than say, horse armor or a fort of solitude.

*runs* DUPS EVERYTHING *runs* ok lets patch it
Intangible 360 @ Jun 6th 2006 4:11PM
Patch doesn't fix the only bug I fell victim to :( Hopefully they are working on another patch.
Colin @ Jun 6th 2006 4:12PM
Speaking of which, Ubisoft just patched most of the major bugs in HoMM5:

I know Oblivion is way way more complicated, but Ubisoft patched HoMM5 in a week. Bethesda took 2.5 months. Thats a long time to have to deal with show stopping bugs (thank god for mods, how in the world did you X360 guys play through it?).

I'm still playing it. I just got a ton of gold from the Count yesterday. I was a little late to the game though, didn't get my 360 until the end of April. I'm lovin it though.
JodyAnthony @ Jun 6th 2006 4:28PM
to #1,
keep in mind some people didn't get the game on day one, and some people have other things to do with their time than play video games constantly.
jaemz @ Jun 6th 2006 4:39PM
Colin, I just finished the X360 version of Oblivion (1000 gamerpoints). My game froze 3 times (needed reboot) and I can't do the 'buy a house in Skingrad' mission. 4 small issues in over 130hrs or gameplay... not too bad if you ask me.
I would tell anyone with a X360 to get this game.
Greg @ Jun 6th 2006 4:46PM
Is the patch mandatory or optional? I like dupping stuff.. especially strong potion of healing :)
Paranoised @ Jun 6th 2006 4:55PM
Aww why did they have to fix the dupe trick and the gold issues...I'll have to resort to buying stuff now.
It would've been nice if they fixed the freezing problems with the patch and left the user the option (since it is a single player game after all) whether to exploit whatever glitches they like to exploit.
But again, maybe the hundreds of Azura's Stars and Potions rolling down the hill are the ones that are causing the freezing in the first place.

I read Besthesda's patch release notes and it does NOT mention any of the bugs I found :
1) Locked gates won't open after hitting a wall switch in "Miscerand" (main quest) and "The Ultimate Heist" quest ( last quest in Thieve's Guild quests ). Only clearing the cache or booting up game while NOT signed into your profile on XBox Live will get you around this problem.
2) In "Allies of Bruma" (main quest) when you go to see th Count of Skingrad in the castle main hall, the Argonian woman tells you to "wait here" for the count but he NEVER comes out to see you.
3) Fathis Ules ( the highest level fence in the Thieves Guild ) never goes to his own home in the Elven Gardens of Imperial City. Instead he goes to an Orc's house down the street. Once you become the Grey Fox, he won't barter with you ANYWHERE ( before that point he will barter with you only in the Arboretum of Imperial City which he visits once a day ).
4) The advanced level trainer for the "Aleration" skill ("Tooth-In-The-Sea") will require you ( if your are not an Argonian ) to follow him under water and remain there with him underwater for three hours of game time before he will train you in Alteration ( according to an FAQ I read ) but after three hours nothing happens and you will never be able to access training on his dialogue menu.
Fojar @ Jun 6th 2006 4:55PM
I'm not downloading that patch. I need the count for funds. _>
Frowelishnu @ Jun 6th 2006 5:38PM
I wonder if this will be a forced update. I hope one will have the option of not dowloading the patch and continuing to play. I don't want to have to be offline just to play Oblivion.
Ian @ Jun 6th 2006 6:01PM
Try today, Xfire already downloaded the patch for me :)
Belcho @ Jun 6th 2006 6:26PM
I seriously doubt this will be optional. These are glitches, as in not the way it was meant to be.
MonocularJack @ Jun 6th 2006 6:48PM
Joystiq, that's not a "tip", that's pandering to the loser mentality that exploiting glitchs is OK. Why even play a game if you're going to just go around the system? If the game is really too hard for you that you need to exploit the glitches then set the difficulty slider bar down to Easy.
The ZeroCorpse @ Jun 6th 2006 7:30PM
Yeah... Taking the extra money or duping items is a cheat, plain and simple. If you have to do that, then you didn't really finish the game like everyone else. You used glitches to make it easier, and you cheated your way through the game.
I haven't used any of those exploits, thank you very much, and I'm having a lot of fun just exploring Cyrodil. People who say they finished it are amusing. NO WAY have you visited every square inch of that continent and done everything there is to do at this point, unless you played damn near 24 hours a day.
Sure, you could rush through the quest and do all the primary side quests, but you're still not DONE with the game. There's a ton more to experience.
Scott @ Jun 6th 2006 7:34PM
I'm still playing it...well, I was still playing it until my 4-year old took the Oblivion disc out of my 360 so he could play Kameo. Now I can't find the disc. I haven't disowned him.....yet. :P
Still,#1...I've got a more than full-time job and a family. I can't dedicate endless hours to gaming.
Vidiot @ Jun 7th 2006 8:29AM
So, Oblivion has "...nudity and sexual material therein." Hmmm, I'm over 75% done and I have yet to find any.
Thoughts?
Richard @ Jun 7th 2006 9:03AM
Looking down the list of fixes I'm not seeing:
"Richard's Crash Bug - despite formating hard-drive and re-installing Windows followed by all the latest drivers, games crashes approximately half an hour of play"
Mike @ Jun 7th 2006 11:08AM
Well, the apparently bad content is when you completely loot a body and the person's in their underwear and you can put them in suggestive positions. If music artists can sing about whatever they want, why can't a game programmer program whatever they want? It's an art, a form of speech, which they no longer want to be free.

#19 - There's an Anvil quest that hints sex. Which obviously means there's fullblown pornography in the game.
"Gamebeaters" - Have you found the non-journal quests, such as the Ring of Omnipotence or the Monster of Dive Rock?
Gezis @ Jun 8th 2006 1:53PM
Harluns watch quest still wont work for me. Am i missing something or is the damn quest still broken?
snarfhound @ Jul 26th 2006 4:01PM
I joined xbox live today just to download the patch... and it DID NOT FIX HARLUNS WATCH quest for me..
Does anyone know how to get around this in order to finish the fighter's guild quests? I have 120 hrs into this character....
Dana @ Aug 14th 2006 6:26PM
I found a pc mod that gets you past that annoying cut-scene lockup when you turn in the ring to get your Gray Cowl (Ultimate Heist quest).

Worked perfectly.
