Awesome. I just dusted off The Movies and forgot how cool of a game creation tool it is. I'm not too much into the sim aspect of it, but the movie creation side of it is what I've been waiting for for years. Hell, I'll even link to my latest movie in progress for the hell of it.

Ummm... did anyone play this game? I'm not trying to disparage it, but I don't remember hearing anything really positive from reviews. Then again, I was probably playing Oblivion at the time.

The Movies was addicting at first and then got really, really, really, old fast. The micromanagement was focused on fixing sets and buildings while juggling some pretty boring film production routines.

As for using the game for Machinima...only if you can't figure out how to use anything else.

Like poster #2, I was surprised to hear about this expansion pack myself initially way back when. The Movies game didn't make a whole lot of money and I felt the reviews underrated the game. I really enjoyed it, but the real game is making your own movies and stories and posting them online. Unfortunately, you will have to spend quite a bit of time on their boards due to occasional work-arounds if you plan on splicing scenes. I plan on buying this pack though. Sounds neat.

Oblivion? The Movies came out something like five months earlier. You must have missed it. :)

As far as I'm aware the game was fairly well accepted, but it wasn't anything particularly groundbreaking due to the fairly limited nature of the movie making tools. That is, it failed to grasp for any massively long stretch of time.

The online movie database was really active though, and some of the movies even hit the mainstream press due to their political nature. It'll be interesting to see if this expansion can rejuvinate it somewhat.

I downloaded this when it first came out. I was very unimpressed. I thought it was going to be like an easy to use animation program which allowed me to make movies. Unfortunetly, It was just a sim game with extreamly limited film making ability as to actually make movies, you needed to actualy direct actors sort of and you had very little freedom. Reading comments at the time of release, it appears most people felt the same way. I then deleted it off my computer. I have no intentions of ever trying the expansion pack.

If you think The Movies has an extremely limited film making abilities then that has more to do with your creativity then with the game imo. How come over 20.000 people are able to make their opus? :)
