Ninety-Nine Nights arrives in August

Microsoft has announced that the Xbox 360 exclusive Ninety-Nine Nights will hit store shelves in August (EB Games is listing 8/15). A collaboration between Q Entertainment's Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Lumines, Meteos) and Phantagram's Sang Youn Lee (Kingdom Under Fire), Nights puts you in control of seven playable warriors on massive battle fields, reminiscent of both the Dynasty Warriors and KUF series.

YAY for medicore and repetitive gameplay!
"reminiscent of both the Dynasty Warriors and KUF series."
CORRECTION:
"COPYING both the Dynasty Warriors and KUF series.

Looks like not only has the previous commentor played 99 nights but reviewed it and found that the game is ENTIRELY derivitive of both dynasty warriors and KUF, i'm sure that analysis is not flawed in any way, nor the assumption that he/she actually reviewed the game somehow in its completed form. . .

True I haven't played it but considering that IT IS a duplicate of Dynasty Warriors (it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out) and ALL the media outlets who've previewed it have said the same thing...and they have PLAYED it.
All the versions of Dynasty Warriors that have been out have all been the same...you run around and swing your massive weapon in a crowd of baddies or cast a spell. Rinse and repeat...
sabre @ Jun 7th 2006 5:04PM
So what part of that description is false?
Maxx @ Jun 7th 2006 5:11PM
This game is SOOOOOOooo yestermonth... the lost the momentem of launching in the States when someone acually gave a crap.
360_gamer @ Jun 7th 2006 5:16PM
Say you what you want, but if you own a 360, this is as close as you're going to get to DW and KUF-style gameplay until those series are updated within the next year. I look forward to giving it a go. It will raise the bar visually for those other games.

Repetitive clap trap. I was hoping for more depth but based on the previews that I've read, it's no dice. Pass...

Boxart looks nice, though. :D
Geist @ Jun 7th 2006 7:25PM
It's exactly like Dynasty Warriors, but meh. If you enjoy those types of games and have a 360, well then, it's a worthy purchase. Remember people, just because a game copies another doesn't destroy its purchasibility. To each their own.

I agree with Sabre, but not in as flame-baity a manner.
First off, I really didn't like KUF: Heroes at all. The AI was extremely stupid, the unit upgrades were confusing, which was even more annoying when it turned out that you were required to upgrade the units along a certain path to proceed with the game. So, the KUF designer having anything to do with N3 is already one strike against this game.
Second, someone at GDC straight up asked Mizuguchi during his panel if he thought the game would get repetitive, because it totally looked like it would. Mizuguchi's response was basically, "If you like Dynasty Warriors-esque games, then no, it won't. But if you're not into them, then, yeah, it's going to get repetitive. That's the nature of this kind of game."
The game IS Dynasty Warriors, but it's on your 360. If you're into those games, as I am, fine. You'll have a good time, probably, because it's your kind of game. If you're not, I don't know why you would have any reason to be remotely excited about this title. Which is why all the hype surrounding this game puzzled me to no end. I didn't see people getting all amped whenever Koei announced a new DW or Samurai Warriors, but yet, those same people were like, "OMG 99 NIGHTS!"
The game (aside from certain cutscenes) offers nothing that the Dynasty Warriors gameplay doesn't, so save your money and buy Dead Rising instead. At least that Dynasty Warriors clone takes place in a mall and has zombies.
Amos @ Jun 7th 2006 8:18PM
Even if it's a clone, I'd prefer N3 to Dynasty Warriors. I just like it's fantasy setting more than the pseudo-over used Chinese history one. Seriously, Dynasty Warriors could use a change of pace a 'bit...
Vexorg @ Jun 7th 2006 8:26PM
#6: Dynasty Warriors 5 has already been released in a 360 version.
kjaslkdfjlk;ajdf @ Jun 7th 2006 8:33PM
I think the game looks sweet
lukE @ Jun 7th 2006 8:42PM
this is a no brainer.
sabre @ Jun 7th 2006 9:07PM
It wasn't "flamebate"...it's called "sarcasim."
Darth Pixel @ Jun 8th 2006 1:33AM
I was curious about this title until it became clear it is a button masher.
All gameplay videos I have seen so far were about killing large groups of enemies by pulling (I guess) amazing combos.
I truly hate any kind of button masher.
Pal @ Jun 8th 2006 2:24AM
I actually did a hands-on review of this a while back.

I actually didn't read the E3 impression by Joystiq till now, I'm glad that I'm not the only one left unimpressed. I was beginning to wonder if I was losing my touch.
sabre @ Jun 8th 2006 3:18AM
SO uh Bizzaro Stamos...am I still 100% wrong?
KilgoreTrout XL @ Jun 8th 2006 9:22AM
I'll give it a rent. Hell, that'll be one of two or three new titles that month anyways.
Would really rather see a sequel to the brilliant KUF: Crusaders. That bug-infested Heroes trainwreck (although there were some good times inbetween bouts of maddening frustration) doesn't count in this guy's book.
Cage @ Jun 8th 2006 1:06PM
Because most gamers in here would be considered "hardcore", I dont think the game was designed for "us". Some like in depth gameplay that requires "skill" to succeed. Some like to "button mash" and accomplish game achievements with their buddies. I personally would still like to see the graphical achievements this game has made...
