Kirby has really let himself go over the years...so has Link. That's a great cartoon. It would only be better if Mario was wearing a "Mustache rides $5" shirt.
But on an entirely different topic, I have a question to aak.
Since we've received tons more information regarding the Wii, why hasn't there been more mock-ups of the menu system and virtual console service? I demand more fanboy-made creativity! With my short attention span, I cannot possibly wait any longer! C'mon, people!
PodMonkeys @ Jun 8th 2006 7:13AM
Awesome comic! :D
On another side note from above, The guy's site, linked for the comic, has a link to a photoshop alternative that isn't Gimp. For those interested.

They should have had pit coming out of rehab or something for being missing for years.
bobeotm @ Jun 8th 2006 9:33AM
I like how Mario barely changes! Heck, he looks pretty much like that now!
Ianc02 @ Jun 8th 2006 9:48AM
Kudos for Nintendo for having these aged icons really. What the hell will they look like in another 20 years lol?
Prof-KOS @ Jun 8th 2006 10:00AM
"How's that water backpack going for you?" That's just pure comedy gold. You could turn this into a whole series with the whole cast of SSBM if your really wanted to.
"Pika!!"
"Omigod.....are you still around?!?"
BklynKid @ Jun 8th 2006 10:04AM
Now that's what I'm talking about!
A web-cartoon that's actually funny! :)

You want to know what happened to Pit? Man, you'd think it was obvious.
First off, The last we saw him, he was a scrawny little kid with vestigal wings, and he was hiding so much about himself (mostly because Nintendo wouldn't use the word "goddess" back when the game originally came out in fear of offending American sensibilities). He beat down some of the most brutal monsters of the underworld.
Now, he's suddenly returning after over a decade, obviously much older and kind of buff (based on the early screens from SSB Brawl) compared to his slightly pudgy former self (based on the concept art from the original).
What obviously happened was that Pit was that the underworld was more than just mythical beasts. It was like our real-world underworld, with gangsters and the like. Palutena had to put him in witness protection to make sure her guardian didn't have any "accidents" should he be needed again. He had to keep a low profile, and he was in a pretty low-tech world, so all he had was working out to keep him occupied.
But now, Nintendo's biggest stars are obviously welcoming him back. Even the underworld wouldn't screw around with Mario and Link, so it's finally safe for him to come out.
I'm obviously very bored this morning.
J B Cougar @ Jun 8th 2006 10:28AM
I dunno, I heard Pit was in danger of being featured on a rather unflattering episode of VH1's "Where Are They Now" and decided to try and mount a comeback before things got ugly. I think the episode was titled something cheesey, like "Too Close to the Sun." But instead, he's going to start slow with the cameo in Smash Bros. (think Kirstie Alley in those weight loss commercials) and then he's going to vault (or perhaps even fly) onto his own 1rst party console game in 2007.
LongshotX @ Jun 8th 2006 10:36AM
They should of had Samus on there. "How's that lose all your powers and painstakingly find all of them all over again mission after mission?"

I don't give a damn what others think, The Wind Waker had the best art of any Zelda game and the best graphics of the last generation. I still don't understand how people can think that Ocarina of Time is how Zelda should look, when its style was the complete opposite of the previous Zeldas (not to mention that it's just plain ugly).
n8dogg @ Jun 8th 2006 11:35AM
Hah... almost everything on the N64 looks ugly to us.
...well, at least to me.
I did like the Wind Waker's graphics. It was clean and the colors were vibrant. I especially loved the fire and explosion effects.
I was one of the few who bitched and moaned when Twilight Princess was first revealed. I was sorely hoping for a continuation to Wind Waker.
BPM? @ Jun 8th 2006 11:38AM
Pretty funny...
But he misspelled "cel-shaded." :P
Christopher7xii @ Jun 8th 2006 12:27PM
For contiuation of Wind Waker, pick up Phantom Hourglass on the DS. It's the direct sequel to it and keeps the shttty art style.
And obviously by that comment, I hated Wind Waker. The art turned me off, the 4 year old feel to the game made me hate it. All and all, I tend to ignore it's existance remembering Zelda games. I rather play Link's Awakening than Wind Waker to be honest. Personally, I think Link to the Past was the best looking Zelda game to date. Twilight Princess will be changing that.
...come to think of it, GameCube was a bad era for Nintendo. Look how it ruined StarFox, Kirby(that Air Ride game), Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart(the battle modes, essshk they sucked), Wind Waker to name a few. I'm just glad that the DS is actually fixing all the mistakes they made. New Super Mario bros, Starfox Command, Mario Kart DS, and Phaontom Hourglass (the SNES zelda play-style will be nice). I mean, cmon... When you launch a system with Luigi's Waving Glowstick, you know shit is going down the tube.
Thank god for Iwata.
Monkeydog @ Jun 8th 2006 12:47PM
"I rather play Link's Awakening than Wind Waker to be honest. "
Are you saying Link's Awakening sucked? Links Awakening was awesome, it had by far the best puzzles ever in a Zelda game, and had the LttP charm.
I loved Windwaker, probably my third favourite(first two being LttP and LA). The art style was beautiful, and the game was fun. Anyone who says it makes the game kiddy, is just kidding themselves. You might as well say games like Jet Set Radio Future is kiddy too. OoT was ugly and boring, and worst of all, empty. While you can say Windwaker was empty, at least every island wasn't empty...while OoT had whole fields of nothing.
Christopher7xii @ Jun 8th 2006 1:29PM
No, I liked Link's Awakening. It was pretty fun. Just saying I prefer substence over style.
And yes, Wind Waker was childish. You ride leaves, constantly have the expressions of a 1950s cartoon, no violent themes(as in storyline). Nothing that had depth storywise at all. It was intended for wee children, and it shows.
As for saying that OoT was empty but Wind Waker wasn't, that's just crap. The entire game of Wind Waker is summed up like this. Sail for 15 minutes, play a 30min dungeon. Sail another 20 minutes. Do a 45 min dungeon. Repeat. Eitherway, that's the whole focus behind the Zelda series if you haven't heard before. Miyamoto made it based off the feelings he had exploring a cave as a child. He wanted Zelda to be an exploration game (play the original and notice how often than not you're just walking from place to place). The same holds true to the SNES version as well... And the N64 OoT, and Link's Awakening and Wind Waker. The point is to roam the vast empty and find treasures or unique spots (dungeons). Strange that you'd hate the founding principles of the series, yet love it so much.
mercatfat @ Jun 8th 2006 2:10PM
CEL SHADED.
ONE L.
IT IS NOT DIFFICULT.
(this is the only spelling error i get really uppity about)
Rare Hare @ Jun 8th 2006 2:42PM
Hey, haven't seen old Christopher7xii around for a while.. but perhaps it's just because i haven't been looking. Great to finally see a sensible comment about the Zelda franchise on this post :-).
Christopher's aboslutely right (although i had no idea that Miyamoto had based the games off of his feeligns when exploring a cave as a child.. cool fact). Those of you who complain about some of these aspects that you claim are in one game but not another perhaps need to re-examine the franchise, as it's remained relatively consistent.
This reminds me that i actually need to go buy wind-waker.. i played it a bit before i actually bought my gamecube (a while back) but haven't gotten around to picking up my own copy yet. perhaps i'll grab SSMB and Metroid Prime while i'm at it..
Wow, who would have thought this comic would make me yearn current gen Nintendo titles.
Aelice @ Jun 8th 2006 2:52PM
*rolls eyes* A game needs 'mature themes' to be labeled 'not kiddie'? I STILL consider the Kingdom Hearts series ridiculously kiddie (yet enjoyable, like WW), despite the very heavy angst and homoerotic character designs.
Sailing in WW was simply exploring. Most Zelda games had Link as barely a preteen, stumbling into an adventure. WW exploited that, (a boy off of his island and into the real world would obviously want to taste that world and its freedoms) and I personally feel it did it well. For those who like a more linear, cookie-cutter experience, I understand why they wouldn't enjoy it. But I loved sailing around for hours between dungeons, seeing what each island had to offer, bombing the hell out of pirates.. more of a sense of exploration than 'hay, the next dungeon is like 2 feet away, awesome!'
The other Zelda games are pretty damn childish, too.
