31. Peeps.

We are dealing with a dynamically upgradable console. These things are going to happen. Even though all units are made to spec, some are ever so slightly differnt than others (unavoidable), and because a company can't forsee all of these potential problems, they run the risk of triggering problems in a small percentage of units with any update.

Admittedly, the PC mentality is "try your best to get it right, but if something happens, patch it."

This cushion necessarily creates an attitude that is more lax than of an old school console game developer/console manufacturer that knows they have exactly one chance to get it right.

It is the nature of the beast.

But as a last word, I will say that if there were genuine bugs, everyone performing the exact same steps would experience them.

I agreed with you up until you said, "if there were genuine bugs, everyone performing the exact same steps would experience them." I'm sure if you were experiencing these issues it would be a "genuine bug" then. (rolls eyes)

You know what I think? I think that it's all the whiners fault. They were pushing Microsoft to release the Update faster and Microsoft did a bad job with the bug testing. Fuck you people that pushed for a faster release date. This is what you get.

since the update games and the dash run much nicer on my 360.
the one game that i certainly noticed this immedietly was with Oblivion. Smoother, faster loading screens, and the game has yet to crash on me. before the update this title would crash while loading every now and then. if you oblivion game is still crashing a lot try clearing the cache.

Ever since I downloaded the update about a third of the times I go in to Multiplayer on CoD 2 it says I need to download the new maps (I already have both map packs). Luckly I can fix this issue by switching to single player and then reloading the multiplayer, but it is rather annoying.

Problem: Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter

Well there are two problems that are really bad, one possibly being within the game itself.

Well just last night we were having a clan match and for over an hour we were running lag tests, and everytime there was always 1-6 people getting dropped to the menu screen. We tried 8 people hosting all having the same problem, we never had a problem until the update.

Another problem is the Xbox 360 freezing on the Xbox guide, it freezed on me aswell as others where I tried sending a message or private chat and then trying to exit. It freezes on that screen where you can't get out but if playing a game in the background it still runs.

Pretty lame...I wish they never came across this update...

Thanks Microsoft for the patch. In Table Tennis it would always freeze when accessing information on my Ipod. But now it runs smooth without any pause when listening to Dani California by Red hot chilipeppers or Dramamine by Modest Mouse. Keep up the good work Microsoft.

Not problem one here, and I've beat the hell out of every feature...I basically did the same throwdown with it that Joystiq posted a few days ago. I think maybe people are a little quick to blame problems on the update that might be caused by ventilation/heat problems or Oblivion cache screw-ups...I love my 360, and if you own one you should too. This upate was the shizzle!

No problems to report here, and I've been playing Burnout every day since the update.

Someone mentioned UNO crashing earlier. That's happened to me to, but long before the update. There are simply some bugs in that game. There's been reports of this for a while now.

First of all, people are only 'whiners' and 'drama queens' when the person handing out those titles isn't experiencing a problem. It's usually those same people that suddenly go "OMGWTFDIEMS!" when they're faced with a problem.

That said, I'm hardly whining. The only issue I can find so far is that a couple of the videos don't play now, mainly DOA: Beach Tittyball. It seems odd that this happened *right* after the update, so I wouldn't imagine that it's anything to do with ventilation problems. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone else with that trailer who can tell me if they have the same problem.

I just figured I'd bring this to attention as it seems some people are having problems. If you're not, awesome, but you don't need to be tools about the people who do. We're fanboys, but we shouldn't be dicks.

The number of people complaining about problems with the update is far smaller compared to the number of people who have updated. The same thing happened at the 360’s launch (the same thing will happen when the PS3 & Wii launch guaranteed), where a few exceptionally vocal people blow a minor issue out of proportion.
One big thing to keep in mind is that the update was the same for everyone and affects every 360 in exactly the same way. Thus, if one person had a specific problem, everyone would experience the same problem. Because not everyone is having an issue with the update that means that any problems that are occurring already existed.
p.s. The problem with the Bungie trailer was a plain old codec encoding bug that appeared after the recent Xbox 360 dashboard update. No reason to freak out, as it will be fixed soon.

#67: Since the dashboard update, I'm also experiencing non-real time titty bouncing. Even after a reboot and without any active downloads, the DOAX2 trailer plays very choppy (especially in the part with the jet skis). At least on my console, this is very reproducable. Seems that this is also caused by the WMV "upgrade" that was part of the patch (and that's also causing the Halo 3 trailer issue). My guess is that we'll soon be seeing another update to fix these codec problems...

For some reason, since the update, when I switch my Xbox 360 off the fans inside are still whirring away. I'm aware that if it is still hot then it would still attempto to cool it even with the power off, but they (the fans) continue to stay on. Only after I do another power cycle will they die completely.

Five minutes after the update, I went to play UNO online in a quick match, and the 360 just hard locked. i did not even have a chance to make one move before it ceased. It also killed the audio as well. Usually when Burnout freezes, the audio keeps playing. Not too confident thus far.

I've had a couple of wonky bugs since the update...

In DOA4 it looked like my dave profile bugged out and lost all of my unlocked costume/character data (which already happened to me once before), but upon clearing out to the start menu and retrying, everything was fine.

I also had an issue where I pressed the guide button when a friend's signin notice popped up, while a game was loading: the blade popped out, and subsequently froze my system- this happened three or four times in a row.

Other than that I've had no problems with any software updates for any games.

I have not had any problems with my Xbox 360 since I purchased it on November 22. I don't believe that the Spring 2006 Update had a negative effect on my system in any way.

However, I have a friend who recently purchased an Xbox 360 last week, and he started having Need for Speed and Halo 2 freeze on him. Thankfully, my friend is still under warranty.
