Tetris to drop on Xbox 360, THQ to publish
Following a lawsuit launched against The Tetris Company, THQ has acquired the rights to publish Tetris on the Xbox 360 in territories outside of Japan (i.e. North America & Europe). THQ alleged that The Tetris Company breached their contract, preventing the publisher from releasing a version of the classic puzzler for the DS. Instead, Nintendo swooped in and published one of the best installments of Tetris to date.According to THQ's financial filings, a settlement was reached, which included the Xbox 360 publishing rights.

i hope they do it as an XBL title and not as a 40$ dvd game with load-times. i also wish they'd make it like tetrinet.
Caleb @ Jun 9th 2006 11:37AM
I will be the first (not the only) to admit they will get it. "Who's commin with me...WHO'S COMMIN WITH ME?!?"
dvddesign @ Jun 9th 2006 11:37AM
Good for nintendo.
I wasn't aware that they'd gone around THQ to develop Tetris for the DS. I guess I'd better go buy it soon, lest it get discontinued for another "Tetris Worlds" rehash.
Why is it that Nintendo's been the one company that can release Tetris without screwing it up?
KilgoreTrout XL @ Jun 9th 2006 12:00PM
DVD- I enjoyed Tetris Worlds for the xbox, especially the Hot line and Fusion gametypes.
The puzzle game I'd really like to see is lemmings, but seen as though it's published by SCE (i think), it just ain't gonna happen.

Oh man... Tetris high scores on XBoxLive leaderboards... my poor thumbs
Pixelbox @ Jun 9th 2006 12:24PM
ahh yes... the continuing legal saga of the greatest video game of all time.
Let's all pause a moment to remember the guy who started it all:

Pixelbox @ Jun 9th 2006 12:26PM
Oh, and Alexey Pajitnov works for Microsoft now, so in a way it's kind of cool that he's getting paid for inventing a classic.
ShaleX @ Jun 9th 2006 12:35PM
Tetris DS is deffinatly one of the best versions. I just wish it would have left out all the Nintendo stuff man. That mari theme gets sooo fucking repetitive. Maybe THQ would have put in the origonal Tetris theme.... And the ability to change the music.
Tim @ Jun 9th 2006 12:47PM
Yeah, I used to work for THQ and I must say they should NOT be able to publish Tetris games because they suck at it. You wouldn't think it'd be that difficult to get right!

One word: WEWT!
I'm happy to hear this news. Tetris for 360? Yes please.
Dallas @ Jun 9th 2006 1:04PM
Glad they're making use of all that graphical power.
THE BLOCKS WILL BE SHINIER THAN EVER!
BPM? @ Jun 9th 2006 1:05PM
Is this Arika's Tetris: The Grand Master Ace? Because if it is, it may be a reason for me to get a 360.
mnm2611 @ Jun 9th 2006 1:15PM
no matter how shiny those blocks rr, blocks will still b blocks!
Toad64 @ Jun 9th 2006 1:19PM
Not only does Pajitnov work at Microsoft now, but he made the game that comes with the 360, Hexic. Why his name isn't on the title screen or anything is a bit weird.
jabbertrack @ Jun 9th 2006 1:42PM
Hexic is a fabulous game... IMO better as a puzzle game than Tetris. The reason why Tetris is so great is that it's simple (duh) but Hexic has many levels of chess-like complexity. Good for Alexey... dude needs to get paid and paid and paid for those titles.
naiberson @ Jun 9th 2006 2:33PM
@soco
I gotta agree. If they could come close to Tetrinet I'll be all over it. Hopefully
Frowelishnu @ Jun 9th 2006 4:20PM
Finally my wife MAY play something on the 360. She is not just a casual gamer, she is hardcore oldskool. Not because she's trying to be cool, she just hates any game with a need for more than a few buttons. This and the Wii may let me play with my wife more often - not that I want her cutting into my Oblivion time ;)
Threnody @ Jun 9th 2006 4:46PM
Yeah THQ is completely incapable of doing Tetris right. Tetris Worlds on the GBA was the biggest waste of $20 imaginable. God bless Nintendo for bringing us Tetris DS!
J00n @ Jun 9th 2006 8:16PM
im guessing that this is coming to XBLA, why do they keep realeasing such good games for the arcade.
my housemates keep laughing at me for playing uno and hexic whilst i have GRAW collecting dust on my shelf lol
Lane @ Jun 9th 2006 9:03PM
They really need to get rid of the unlimited spin feature. On the ds it makes it near impossible to lose when you play by yourself. It wouldn't have been too bad if they would've let you turn it off.
Capt. Castellanos @ Jun 10th 2006 12:14PM
i've been playing the old gameboy version of Tetris for...
i don't know how many years.
and i'm sticking to it.
its a classic.
i'm keepin' it 8-bit.
i might just get Tetris DS though.
maybe.. maybe...
