Get a glimpse of the Halo graphic novel

Marvel is offering a sneak peak at the upcoming Halo Graphic Novel (that's HGN for those of us in the know). They're teasing the Halo-faithful with some panels from each of the four main stories -- "The Last Voyage of the Infinite Succor," "Armor Testing," "Breaking Quarantine," and "Second Sunrise Over New Mombasa" -- as well as a short strip titled "Shore Leave: Master Chief on Holiday."

It also has the release date emblazoned on the back page: oh seven-twelve-oh six. That's less than a month away, fanboy. You can make it. We believe in you. Master Chief believes in you.

Man, I bought this "preview" and it was a bunch of poorly drawn "episodes." It was actually pretty depressing. You'd think after all the success of Halo that they could afford some decent artists. Of course, I'm comparing this to many of the mass produced comics out there. And maybe they'll make it better for the actual novel.

I dunno. Halo 1 was so awesome. Halo 2 was so shit. Why do they milk franchises like this, it's not even that great.

Hate Halo all you want, but Halo 2 wasn't the travesty you perceive it to be. They're milking the franchise because they can. And it's not like it's just tacky, worthless merchandise. The HGN has serious talent behind it.

Also, the Cheif hardly does everything by himself. There are fellow marines all over the game. They'll die if you don't protect them, but they're definitely there.

And I might go so far as to say that your synopsis of the Halo 2 plotline is somewhat lacking.

To each his own I guess...

Also, I forgot to point out how people (like Jay it seems) get pissed off on one end because they didn't play as Chief the whole game (why else wouldn't you like the story, it was great if cut a little short) while simultaneously making fun of the fact you play as a one man army. ITS THE WAY VIDEO GAMES WORK. You are the protagonist! You do all the hard work. Wheter your the Chief or Solid Snake or Gordon Freeman or Mario, you're doing rediculous shit to save the day. You don't want that? Go fill out your taxes I hear those forms are pretty realistic.

I finally read the Fall of plant Reach, and if the stories in this come even close to that I will pick this up. Great read for a Sci-Fi fan.

Hope this can flesh out the story some more.

Pay for the preview? Man, some stores are tough. My local comic book store was giving these out for free. I felt wrong walking out with a comic in hand and paying nothing, then I saw it really is a preview, with barely ANYTHING given away (i.e. just the first one ore two pages).

You know, without trying to start a flamewar, I could never see what was go great about Halo. I've had the PC version for sometime now (seeing as how I've never owned an XBOX), but I just couldn't get very far into the game without getting bored. It just seems like another FPS game to me.

I dunno, maybe I'm just FPS'd-out, similar to how I'm starting to get RPG'd-out lately. Maybe I'll give it another shot one of these days.

I still take issue with this.

The "novel" part of the phrase "Graphic Novel" implies it's one cohesive storyline.

This, on the other hand, is an anthology of short stories. It's not a novel, and therefore, shouldn't be called one.

And to correct what awa64 said....there is one "novel" storyline with 3 "minor" sidestories, and some anthologies of situations that occur during the same time period other events that other characters endured, which was not included in the games and other novels.

I was surprised at first by Cortana's undressed appearance, but now I'm wondering if she's always looked like that. I had assumed while playing Halo 1 & 2 that she was intended to have a psuedo-feminine form; I guess the reality was that she was too much woman for the XBOX to handle. This should be a major bullet point in the argument for the relevance of next-gen consoles--advanced breast rendering technology.

And how can you call these poorly drawn? The pictures by Tsutomu Nihei kinda suck, but the other 2 in the preview look awesome. So I don't know WTF you guys are complaining about.
