Microsoft toys with our Street Fighter II hopes
Late last night we were browsing through the Xbox 360 Dashboard, inevitably landing in Xbox Live Arcade. We pondered a game of Uno, but decided to check on new arrivals instead. To our surprise, we found Street Fighter II as the lone entry in the new to XBLA download category. What?! This can't be right! Surely the almighty Joystiq would have been the first to receive a press release, no? At the least, a flurry of tips should be flooding our inbox, right? How could this be? Street Fighter II released behind our back?
Thankfully, our ego was not to remain damaged for long. Upon opening the Street Fighter II download item from the Marketplace menu, we were bombarded with a slew of low-cost gamer pictures and a dashboard theme, but no game. Touché, Microsoft ... you dirty tease.

Yeah, they got me too last night.....I though I was going to have to purchase some points right then and there...but at least now Ken Masters can take his rightful place in my Gamertag card! ;p
Alkaiser @ Jun 15th 2006 2:02PM
Low cost gamer pictures, awesome! More nickel & diming from the Xbox Live Marketplace, with no real additional content! I love it!
If you buy the game you should get your choice of one Gamerpic free, period.
Samuel McConnell @ Jun 15th 2006 2:14PM
That's a shoryuken to the ego, isn't it?
Sabre @ Jun 15th 2006 2:14PM
Yea I found that by accident a couple days ago as well. I was never 'BIG' on Street Fighter but it would have been a game that wasn't 20+ years old on the coin-op list of games. I'm saving the some of the points I do have remaining for SF2 too.

Didnt know gamer pictures was a requirement to buy. Some people in this world pay for water too...

I understand people like this game, and want it, but the fact that Microsoft is intentionally drawing out the eventual [very sub atomic] release just to get more [initial downloads for bragging purposses] people hyped has to be a wake up call to at least one other person besides myself. This is Street Fighter at it's core... NOT Vista... teasing and delays for this long is obviously a buzz tactic. Please wake up subscribers, please stop giving your loose change to Microsoft in return for 10kb gif files.
Please.

I pay for water. i have to or else my plumbing would be useless.
Captain Obvious @ Jun 15th 2006 2:27PM
I don't know why people are so upset about this delay. Everyone is always complaining that with the advent of XBL, it will be too easy for developers to release betas (that we have to pay for), and then correct problems with patches. I want Capcom and MS to delay this release until it is perfect. No amount of lag in this game will be acceptable to anyone.
Your Right @ Jun 15th 2006 2:41PM
You are not paying for the water. Your paying for the delivery of the water to your household. If you want, You can not pay your plumbing and drive out to your local sprin/water pump and fill up jugs of water for free. Lots of people actually do this for their drinking water, but to get all your water like that, would be too much of a hassel that its worth it to pay to have water delivered to your house through pipes
SuicideNinja @ Jun 15th 2006 2:42PM
I forgot I had points left and decided to buy my first theme, and it was SF2.
It was a mistake (pink menus? GAH!). I immediately went back to my AVP background and custom blade setup.
No more theme purchases from me.

Slowest.. News.. Day.. Ever..
Captain Obvious @ Jun 15th 2006 3:02PM
@Your Right - actually, you are paying for the water as well as the delivery of the water. Water rights are very complex property rights, and there are several different allocation systems for those rights. But the bottom line is that someone owns the water and you cannot just take it. Well, you can, but you'll be trespassing and/or committing theft.
Cage @ Jun 15th 2006 3:13PM
Drinking water!! I cant believe there is a discussion going on about water to your home. You know the little bottles in stores?!? Otherwise you can go to your nearest drinking fountain (hopefully in your city those are still free).
Glenn @ Jun 15th 2006 3:45PM
Cage - Umm, your city pays for that fountain and the water it supplies with tax money. It likely also pays for a water treatment facility.
NYUKKAH @ Jun 15th 2006 3:47PM
lol at all the talk about the water
WedgeTalon @ Jun 15th 2006 3:48PM
I wasn't going to do this (you guys already probably think of me as Turner's pawn )': ), but since you guys seem so taken with Street Fighter, I figured I'd go ahead. GameTap already has the following:
Street Fighter® Alpha
Street Fighter® Alpha 3
Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Street Fighter® II: Champion Edition
Zacky V @ Jun 15th 2006 4:15PM
Who else thinks they should just drop all the arcade games their making and just figure out how to give us goldeneye and perfect dark
DarkTetsuya @ Jun 15th 2006 6:49PM
So they *do* charge points for this theme? Sorry M$, no sale. Not till SF2 is actually released.
LaughingMan @ Jun 15th 2006 11:56PM
Ugh. Others have said it before and is worth repeating: Gamerpics and themes are no diffrent than ringtones and wallpaper on your phone. Waste of money? If you want to look at it that way, sure. But others love personalizing their electronics with things they're into. Doesn't make your cell phone/360 any better or worse- it's just fun.
As for SF2 the game? I'm fine with waiting. If it takes another month, so be it. As long as it's good and it's 400 points I'm cool.
SonicRift @ Jun 16th 2006 1:19AM
But GameTap is only available in the United States, and only on computers running Windows.
