Couldn’t you just as easily make this out of PVC, and skip the welder? It would be cheaper too.

This design doesn't seem to be providing the user from tipping backwards. So those who are going to make this, do yourself a favor and add about a foot or so longer base to cover for the lean in the seat.

It actually looks pretty crappy the one their giving away. Also, It does not even come with the racing wheel and pedals if you reed. So you still need to do some work, and buy the wheel if you want it working.

"It actually looks pretty crappy the one their giving away."

I don't think it looks crappy from a construction standpoint, and I don't know how much "design" you actually need for something like this. I don't have a problem with sticking a real car seat on a metal frame - it doesn't get much more realistic than that. (That is how cars are actually built, after all - all that's missing are the floormats and a full plastic dashboard.)

The one criticism I might have is that the frame for the wheel itself looks mighty constrictive. They mighta wanted to widen the stance of the cage a bit - as it is I can imagine some banged-up knees on the sides of the poles holding up the wheel. Also, it probably would have been nice to have somewhat of a raised seating position - not like a truck, but even in a Ferrari the pedals are not dead-even with the chair horizontally. This is going to be like driving while lying down.

Of course, creating a box with a picture of idiots blatantly playing games incorrectly on it is entirely optional :)

More like the $460 non-adjustable gaming chair.

The DIY guide is nice and all, but this article is somewhat misleading in that it's a racing oriented chair.

Adjustable height (for arms) and length (for legs) would be a nice option too.
You're going to want to show it off to your buddies, RIGHT??

Yeah, I agree with the above comment... This isn't an 80 dollar gaming chair, it's a 460 dollar racing seat, assuming you have the steering wheel and pedals, let alone any welding skill.

You guys do know that you can rent welders. Did you include the cost of you PC/Console/Monitor/Stereo when you weighed buying your favorite game? No.

And Rob, I don't know if you realize this, but most automotive seats are adjustable in at least 2 ways, and frequently up to 8, so your point is moot.

This obviously isn't for people who don't have the inclanation to work with welders, but the internet is clearly a haven for people who have zero skill short of bitching and moaning.
