I played the open beta before it came out. If they would have made it a non-fee based MMO like Guildwars it'd do a lot better I think. For what it offers I can't justify paying the monthly fee.

I played the closed beta, starting in June '05. I was psyched for it to come out Nov '05. They delayed it. I lost interest. I ended up buying it at retail anyhoo, and liked how much they improved it. I stopped playing when I realized I had no one to play with...

Many people blame this problem to be bad advertising. I don't think many people knew it was out, unless you walked into the store, picked up the box, and read that it was an MMO.

There are a number of people playing it. Thing is the game world is huge and often one faction becomes very popular to play for a weeks then people make alts on another faction. Also the game servers should have been opened up as they filled instead of having them all ready at once.

Don't worry when NCsoft does a Sony playpass type deal a lot more people will play.

You're right idioteraser, a number of people do play it. And that number is about 7.

For anyone who's interested, EBGames is giving the game away with purchase of the original Guild Wars.

This was a horrible game. My expectations were of course something like Madmax / Carwars. It was nothing like that.

Problem 1 classes: Why are there classes in a post appocolyptic game with cars? Oh thats right developers dont know how to balance a game unless its very constrained.

Problem 2, MOdification: The actual modifying of your cars is extremely lame, its even more limited then getting new gear for your character in EQ or WoW. Why cant i actually just weld stuff onto my car to use as armor, what happened to the cool idea of weight vs. power? instead you get to add one piece of armor that counts as the entire body of your car.

Problem 3 Lore: The lore sucks in this game, it doesn't feel like a desolate wasteland, things are too built up technology is too built up...and guess what no one fights for gas..what a P.A. world and no one is fighting over resources? Oh i guess it would have been too hard to figure out how to implement that.

I wish I had more time to go on, but let me sum up by saying the reason this game is struggling is beacuse it SUCKS!

I was really excited for this game until I read the Gamespot review. Though, I still can't help but root for it a little bit. I just wanna see a successful mainstream MMO that's *gasp* NOT FANTASY BASED!

Are we hitting a critical number for games vs available subscribers?

Got to agree with #7 on this one. I was looking forward to a persistent, massive version of Twisted Metal. All out PvP vehicular manslaughter.

Instead I got yet another generic MMO except horses are now cars. I quested for about 2 days and then suddenly realized what the heck I was doing.

Ahem there is fighting over resources. Numerous quests have you whacking mobs for their stuff.

As for built up tech bother to read the history of the game backstory. It's set hundreds of years in the future.

As for pvp there is the pvp zone. And run over guys on foot they go splat real nicely.

I think the advertising was fine - I saw ads for Auto Assault all over the place. Problem is, the game doesn't look much fun. No amount of marketing can sell a game nobody wants to play. I think the concept is just flawed and unappealing.

Well at least it isn't another fantasy MMO filled with elves and dwarves. Have to give some credit for something different.

My problem with it is that they took the standard MMO and forced their Post-Apocalyptic Mad-Maxian CarPG concept onto it instead of taking their Post-Apocalyptic Mad-Maxian CarPG concept and building an MMO around it. The setting was a great idea but they forgot to actually design a good game.

I don't know. I mean, I've played the game for a while, and I haven't really had a problem with it. The people who do play are very friendly and willing to help out anyone who asks, which, to me at least, makes up for the lack of people. In some ways, however, I think it's nice that there aren't hundreds of people who play; as far as I have seen, there are no elitist nerds who think they are the most awesome things in virtual existence, and, from playing other MMOs, this is a huge breath of fresh air. I don't exactly feel the need to deal with tons of people who will laugh at me for asking where a certain enemy can be found, or what some obscure acronym means. Additionally, I don't think I have seen he word "n00b," or any of its variants, used once in this game.

Even the missions that look boring are often more fun than they appear. This is probably because of the way enemies were designed, since, as a vehicle, their movements and attack patterns depend largely on what sort of vehicle they are, meaning that combat can be significantly different mission to mission.

I really do feel bad, though, that it hasn't been more popular. A contradiction, I know, but because this game has been so much fun for me, I really want it to do well.
