Phoenix Wright: still hot, still rare
Following the announcement that Capcom is developing a new Phoenix Wright DS title for the Japanese market, PunchJump.com reports that the third printing of the US version of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (DS) has sold out in roughly a week's time. According to one online retailer, Capcom's next reprint is scheduled for mid-August. In the meantime, consider importing the UK or Japanese* version.*There's a built-in English language option. On the title screen, tap the red button to toggle the language.

And the Jap. version is $30usd over at play-asia.com
So for those who don't have it, don't wait any longer, you're missing out a great game.

Phoenix Wright for Wii = bonus "gavel banging" level?
Also a bonus level: Playing an attorney who must defend Sony from Immersion for copying controller vibration.
fashionfauxpas @ Jun 21st 2006 2:32PM
out of the two sim-professional games on the DS, i enjoyed playing Tramua Center over Phoneix Wright. i guess i enjoyed the action elements of Trauma Center than the text base in Phoneix Wright. too bad its my gf copy, otherwise i bet i could get a bit for it on ebay.
aitmanga @ Jun 21st 2006 2:48PM
We have plenty in Mexico, almost every gaming store has some copies [Probably because of the language barrier].
Maybe I should buy some and sell them on eBay...
Markster @ Jun 21st 2006 2:59PM
Any chance that Capcom will realize that they have a hit on their hands, and start producing more than a handful of copies?
I guess not.
atworknow @ Jun 21st 2006 3:02PM
Whatever. I had such high hopes for this game. I can't believe crappy games like this are worth money. Don't waste your time. Go play a real game like "New Super Mario Bros."
Tox @ Jun 21st 2006 3:11PM
atworknow: What exactly did you expect from a lawyer game, that was not part of Phoenix Wright?
Diogo @ Jun 21st 2006 3:24PM
I got this when it came outover here in the UK its a really cool game , Definetly worth the money . :)
atworknow @ Jun 21st 2006 3:25PM
Oh I don't know... An involving plot, puzzles that required more than half a brain, decent music and sound effects since there's no voice acting, interesting uses of the touch screen, etc., etc. Puzzles with more than one solution would have totally made this game better. As it is though, you have to pixel-hunt for every stupid object that makes your case. I just thought it was a total disappointment.
MosquitoControl @ Jun 21st 2006 3:38PM
Short supply is a brilliant marketing strategy.
Just look at bape.
thunderleg @ Jun 21st 2006 3:41PM
If it's not like a typical Harvey Birdman episode, I think I'll pass.
Objection!! *slap!*
However, I certainly won't tell people not to buy it.. If it seems enjoyable to you, go for it!
Sabre @ Jun 21st 2006 3:59PM
Damn...I really need to pick up this game and try it out. If it's even remotely similar to Trauma Center then I'm sure I'll dig it. Trauma Center might have been pretty tough but it was fun as hell.
Cottonball @ Jun 21st 2006 4:07PM
Rented it from GameFly and played through it. Don't believe the hype. Shallow gameplay, uninteresting story/dialogue, there just isn't much there. I suppose it does have a certain kitsch value though. And it is a bit different from your average game.
Still thought it sucked though.
p-diddy @ Jun 21st 2006 4:17PM
I am a law student. PW is nothing like being a lawyer. Yeah. We know. But as an aspiring attorney, I should love this game, right? Well, it's kinda fun, but really, I also don't understand the hype. It's all text driven, the cases aren't that hard to solve, and it can be just tedious.
Trauma Center is a much more engaging game. PW is maybe worth a rent, but don't knock down small children and knock over people in wheelchairs to get it. It's not worth it.

@4:
aitmanga, why bother? You know that with taxes and such... the game won't be less than $60 when you buy it. You won't make any money.
(I know. I live in Mexico too, and I HATE our stupid import taxes.)
Justin @ Jun 21st 2006 4:43PM
i would rent this game just to see a text expression for OBJECTIIIIION!!!!!!!!
gotta be kidding me. I like the fact that this is a new type of strategy title, but this is ridiculous. it would be a great Wii title if they could make this an open ended RPG where you have to investigate crime scenes, start acquiring informants and handle the media all in time for a case.
Grand Theft Gavel: Harvard Law School?
Red Dead Objection?
Think about it.
Nambit @ Jun 21st 2006 5:36PM
What's with some of the Joystiq folks here?
The game is simple, fun, and an easy to pick up and put down. Great for portable play and a quick time killer.
Oh... right... It's not like the real thing so it's gotta suck. Man, some folks are so full of themselves. You want a simulation? Go to to your nearest courthouse.
olhado @ Jun 21st 2006 6:21PM
This game is a port of a GBA game, right? That's why it's a little bit lower quality.
Maybe that's a different game I'm thinking of.
Dave Silva @ Jun 21st 2006 7:16PM
@17: It's not really a port, more like the GBA game with unneeded DS functionality.
The music was also slightly changed, and they added a new scenario. Not a bad deal but I would've preferred the original GBA version to a DS release. Mostly because I don't own nor I plan to buy a DS.
Eric @ Jun 21st 2006 7:37PM
man i called 5 stores where i live the day it was supposed ship and no one had it
Anthony @ Jun 21st 2006 8:03PM
I got mine form Wal-mart.com for $29.88. their shipping is cheap too, something like $1.97. Shipping is free if you live in the Dallas-Ft Worth area, just choose the Site-to-Store option and choose your closest Wal-mart, like I did. If they have this "rare" game there are plenty of copies.
Rivithed @ Jun 21st 2006 8:31PM
This isn't the only DS game facing a shortage. An even higher rated
game, Castllevania Dawn of Sorrow (DS) is coming up short as well.
The ZeroCorpse @ Jun 21st 2006 11:12PM
"Sold out" my fanny! The online profiteers went into retailers and swept them all up, creating an artificial demand and scarcity.
You want a truly rare game? Find a copy of Sea Trader or Fire Pro Wrestling 2 in a retail store! You almost can't!!!
JSK @ Jun 22nd 2006 5:13PM
I wouldn't bother importing from the UK (if you're paying retail). With the current GBP -> USD currency rates, that GBP24.99 quoted on Amazon's UK site is the same as USD49. For that price, you may as well just buy one from the crooks off eBay and save some money on the shipping.
teknotom @ Jun 23rd 2006 11:53AM
The UK copy does include an additional French language mode though, as opposed to the Japanese. Ooh la la.
