Assassin's Creed to feature co-op, downloadable content [update 1]
Eurogamer reports that, Assassin's Creed is currently scheduled for release on PlayStation 3 only, although an Xbox 360 version is likely in the works.
[Update 1: Metafuture has thrown the smack down on the dubious origins of this one, and it ain't OPM. Eurogamer got their unsourced info from Computer & Video Games who apparently cribbed it from German gaming site GameFront and, in doing so, mistranslated the meaning.
Which, according to a poster at NeoGAF, was mistranslated. Google helps translate the above as, "The American "Official PlayStation 2 Magazine" writes in its newest issue that Ubisoft will give new missions in form of downloadable contents for Assassin's Creed. There is to be also missions, in which the player with other Assassins must co-operate: one steals horses and klaut from the realms money from the bag, in order to give it to the arms."
See where the confusion comes from? Matt from Metafuture checked the mag itself, then double-checked with one of their editors to corroborate, that the co-op rumor does not appear in OPM. Wishful (group)thinking perhaps. Since we don't have a copy of OPM handy, we'll take Metafuture at their word and consider this hearsay.

Gotta say that despite being a big Xbox 360/Wii guy, this game does look pretty good, and coop missions are always great for playability. Thumbs up.

Heh, I was suprised to see that there was no 360 label up at the top of this article. It just feels like it's going to make it to the 360 eventually...what would really be funny would be another case of the original Splinter Cell, where it's made for the more powerful console first, but ported to a weaker console later, and ends up looking even better.
Jason W @ Jun 22nd 2006 4:03PM
There is no way on earth you can say spliner cell on the PS2 looked better than it did on the xbox.
watership @ Jun 22nd 2006 4:07PM
Splinter Cell had lots of problems on PS2. They never were able to get the series it to look as good as it did on the XBOX and even GC versions.
OftenK @ Jun 22nd 2006 4:13PM
I would be thrilled if this makes an appearance on the 360. Everything I've read or seen about this game indicates that it will nothing short of awesome.
T-Bone @ Jun 22nd 2006 4:15PM
This game looks amazing.......
Clint @ Jun 22nd 2006 4:24PM
I'll have to get a PS3 now for sho!
rikimaru @ Jun 22nd 2006 4:32PM
This game and MGS4 are the main reasons why I'll buy a PS3 (right after I get a Wii)
Blink @ Jun 22nd 2006 4:32PM
I was actually talking about it coming to XBox first, then GCN.

Please come to the 360. Just...please.

I don't know why it hasn't officially been announced for the 360 when it was seen running on a Xbox 360 at E3 and Ubi knows it'll make them more money by releasing it on both platforms then it would by only releasing it on the PS3. Weird stuff.
T-Bone @ Jun 22nd 2006 4:44PM
That's because ubisoft recognized who their daddy was...
James Sorensen @ Jun 22nd 2006 4:46PM
the behind closed doors e3 demo was ran on a big gray ps3 box, not a 360, dont follow more bs anti-sony rumors...
adn the demo at e3 was amazing... the cities are teh most "alive" cities ever...
But i would say dont fear 360 owners youll know doubt get a release is not same time then shortly after.. etc but ya some co-op assasin missions will rock
Player1 @ Jun 22nd 2006 4:53PM
I believe I read in the latest Game Informer that this will be coming to the 360 despite the advertising so far.

Yeah guys...its coming to the 360 as the above comment states. Screw PS3!

I hope the PS3 online service is good, otherwise co-op multiplayer and downloadable content mean very little.
I wanna ask sony who's paying for their excitingly titled 'network platform' if there isn't a subscription fee. I'd rather pay for PS3 online just to have a better service than PS2 online.
Mike @ Jun 22nd 2006 5:36PM
Thanks for the link #16. I wonder how this game will be on the Wii.
mike @ Jun 22nd 2006 5:38PM
The game is going to be multiplatform so you don't hve to own a PS3 to play this.
Christopher7xii @ Jun 22nd 2006 5:52PM
No... this is the reason you buy a PS3... Page 76 of June's EGM.

This game is worth $693.60
(6% sales tax include, however, I was so hoping the sales tax would only be 6 bucks, $666 for a console and a game would be weird. Of course assuming the better version is $600, and the games are $60.)
Makes me wish I had a job... Even with the awesome games Sony has going towards its system, its probably gonna miss the "Oh, I'm just shopping for my kids crowd." around Christmas to the Playstation 2.
n8dogg @ Jun 23rd 2006 12:06AM
I seriously can see either the Playstation 2, DS Lite or Nintendo Wii dominating Christmas, with mayyyybe the 360 coming up close behind.
Of course, I think everyone is not expecting much of the PS3 this Christmas, but I believe it'll mainly be due to the shortage of systems upon the release as well as the incredibly high price point. However, big PS2 sales will relieve the pain, and I firmly believe that Sony has a lot of potential to succeed in 2007.

All i can say is that Ubisoft deffinately needs to keep Assassins Creed exclusive to the PS3 mainly because it is more powerful and they can do more with the game if it's not multiplatform. Also gota keep in mind that without exclusives, there would be no good reason to buy one particular system !!!
p.s. Even though GTA IV will be multiplatform this time around, i will purchase it for the PS3 (even though i have a 360) because that's where it belongs !!! :) I love to read the responses from nintendo and xbox fangirls :)
Jason W @ Jun 23rd 2006 10:19AM
But to pick up the montra if this game looks compareable to the PS2 version of Splinter Cell (with contrast to the xbox version) would you still be willing to pay for the PS3 is the difference is that minimal? They could screw it up like all the Ghost Reacon games on the PS2 or it could be better like Resident Evil. I was suprised that the PS2 could make the game alittle better on the PS2 than the cube with the right tv set up.
Kazi @ Jun 23rd 2006 10:42AM
@27, Christopher7xii, that rumor was proven false a long time ago dude. The FFVII showing was just a tech demo. There's no FFVII remake officially announced. Though I see it happening soon enough since FFVII was their last good game. They need to milk that cow some more Dirge of Cerebrus, Advent Children, Kingdom Hearts, several figurine/statuete lines, several music CDs, graphic novels, books, trading cards, key chains, pins, costumes and anime OVAs just aren't enough.
And for emphasis http://1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3151655
I was actually consitering getting a PS3 before I found out this game wasn't exclusive. Through the Project Assassin rumors and the article linked just above, I'm pretty convinced Assassin's Creed will be multiplatform.
Now after this is officially announced I'd like MGS4 to drop it's timed exclusive status and hit 360 and the Wii the same time it hits the PS3. But that's wishful thinking since I'm sure Sony's dropping tons of cash on Konami for that.
360RuLeZ! @ Jun 24th 2006 6:15PM
Umm... First of its harder to port a PS3 game to a 360 then it is to port a 360 title to the PS3... It was never stated to be a multi-platform title of any sort Sony never shows-off good stuff 6 months before their intitial launch. Alone that PS3 has many note worthy multimedia features. Joystiq opinionists are more favourable to the HD-DVD centric 360 (which is pretty much useless multimedia without a Media Center PC). Kojima stated that some of his inner software can't be replicated on any other system, he also said that he likes the PS3 better then anyother system for his products (So isn't paying a dime on MGS4), their concerning themselfs on Killzone which has a better storyline and potential then HALO (seriously a Stargate rip anyone?). That being said I'm not spending a dime on the PS3 I'll be here codelling my 360 (partially because I can't afford a better rig).
