Prey PC demo available; Xbox 360 demo WRU? [update 1]
The demo for both the PC and Xbox 360 versions of Human Head's long-time-comin' FPS, Prey, were supposed to drop today. It's today and one's here, the other ain't. Just so we weren't left hanging, checking the Xbox Live Marketplace ad nauseum, 3D Realms' George Broussard donned an all too familiar cap to let everyone know the demo isn't coming ... at least not today:"We do not want 360 people waiting up for the demo or having false expectations. The 360 demo will not appear on Marketplace tonight.
"I'm still waiting for specifcs, but I'm being told that it's still in testing at Microsoft. From what I understand this isn't Microsoft's fault, and is more likely just an issue of timing.
"I'm hesitant to give any estimates for a release, but I've been told it should be reasonably soon after the PC release, but could be as long as a few days.
"We will post an update as soon as we have more solid information."
Since we all know Microsoft isn't to keen on releasing demos on Fridays, we're looking at an early next week release. If you're rocking a PC capable of running the demo, you could always go that route also.

[Update 1: TV Guide's Joe Hutsko got word from 2K Games' Jay Boor who said ... wait for it ... "Should be up soon - hopefully today." Alright hopefuls, you can officially start bugging the hell out of the XBL servers! Thanks, Joe!]

That was posted last night. Worst case scenario was it is Monday. It could hit sometime today.
Izuna Drop @ Jun 22nd 2006 10:48AM
The PC Demo is pretty sweet.

Osiris @ Jun 22nd 2006 10:58AM
PC version is fun yeh, good demonstation of what to expect..
I get some terrible tearing when i play though, and i don't see any options for Vsync, let alone any other more finer video options.
I hope that's only cos it's a demo...
Scott @ Jun 22nd 2006 11:00AM
Oh well. Better than them putting it up and then having to yank it down when problems arose...I suppose.
Kid Chemical @ Jun 22nd 2006 11:04AM
One slight problem. George's announcement was made yesterday night, refering to the rumor that the 360 would be getting it at 12:01 EST like the PC version.
Go back and read the 3D realm site, you can see its clearly dated for 21st
C. Grant @ Jun 22nd 2006 11:40AM
Kid Chemical: yeah, and? The PC version came out at 12:01 this morning. The 360 version "should be reasonably soon after the PC release, but could be as long as a few days."
If it ain't out today, it's not coming out tomorrow, it could be as long as next week.
wonderweazel @ Jun 22nd 2006 11:59AM
I didn't even know there was a demo coming out. I reserved the game yesterday, and at least I will now be able to try it out before it is released.
storm9 @ Jun 22nd 2006 12:19PM
You know they dont even have the new Halo 2 Commentary trailer up on XBL, do they?
It was out on bungie.net a few weeks ago, and they said they would get it on XBL asap.
MS is really slow...
Belford @ Jun 22nd 2006 1:55PM
Why did I pay all this money for this console
again?
Every single day goes by and it seems theres a new
story on how XB 360 owners are getting screwed. I'm getting really fed up with this. When it does become available I wouldn't be surprised if it cost 150MS points or something.
Tony @ Jun 22nd 2006 2:10PM
Yeah, a free demo for a game not coming out until July 10th being delayed a couple of days is a big stab in the back. Come on.
botdeluxe @ Jun 22nd 2006 2:22PM
omg we are getting so totally screwed.. we have to wait a few days, we're entitled to in now, even if it's broken!
Belford, if you already own a 360 then you should know that MS doesn't charge for demos... unless you need to resort to making things up to backup your senseless whining. Yeah every single day huh? ha
soniccar @ Jun 22nd 2006 3:36PM
It is kind of screwed up that PC gamers get it first when 360 owners will have to pay more to actually buy the game. Give the 360 the demo the same day as the PC or even before.
Bran @ Jun 22nd 2006 4:08PM
Xbox Live is like the old mall in everyone's town that has the crummy shops and nobody wants to go to anymore.
Where is the content? It's so old and outdated. No, I don't want to watch the Entourage trailer, and no I don't want to spend 15 minutes downloading Matsuyuwhogivesash*t Artist of the Month.
Matt @ Jun 22nd 2006 5:18PM
you forgot the "It's not Microsoft's fault. They aren't gay. Really." line :-P
Kid Chemical @ Jun 22nd 2006 7:20PM
C. Grant:
But you didn't properly quote the story. No where did you mention the message was posted yesterday night, so when George said "The 360 demo will not appear on Marketplace tonight", he wasn't saying it would not arrive on Thursday. He was saying it would not arrive at midnight as was rumored. That there was no reason to stay up all night since he knew it wouldn't ooze out that night.
I know this is just a fan news blog, but show a little journalistic class.
A Crown of Amaranth @ Jun 23rd 2006 10:23AM
I'd love to see half the people that spend there time whining on these message boards about things like XBL pull themselves off their filth-encrusted couches and do something half as innovative with their lives as the damn awesome folks at MS that are doing something with this system no one has ever done on a home console. Not even a full year into the new and improved Live and already we've got expansion software for download, movie and game videos, an upgradeable dashboard, and mostly-great-but-not-always online play. It's a full-time job for folks to bring this stuff to you, and if you can do it better than why aren't you? Those who can, do. Those who can't, bitch about the shortcomings of those who do.
I for one love it.
Deleron Starzet @ Jun 29th 2006 12:49PM
Nothing to say guys, is the iso out there (ups, I mean the demo) ?
C. Grant @ Jun 29th 2006 3:49PM
Kid Chemical: stop being such a pedant and grab a clue. By "tonight" he meant midnight, as in Friday morning which, I KNOW I KNOW, is really "tomorrow" but it's still night and, as such, think that's what he meant. HIS POINT was that the XBL demo was not coming out that night (thursday OR friday) and, in fact, is still not out, as I (apparently accurately) intimated in my post.
So instead of coming here and bitching about "journalistic class" (wtf that means), do me a favor and troll elsewhere.
