Depp adds voice to Pirates of the Caribbean game
Johnny Depp will lend his vocal talents to Bethesda's upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow. The title, due out next week for PC and PlayStation 2, lets you play as Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, and Elizabeth Swann as you learn more about the history of Captain Jack. Now that Johnny Depp has supplied the voice, Bethesda has decided to add a secret level where you get to visit Neverland, pimp slap Leonardo DiCaprio, make ice sculptures, and throw chocolate at children ... all while experiencing the mind-blowing effects of Ether.
Seriously, we love Depp's film career, and having him voice Jack can only make the title better. Bethesda has a good track record, but games based on movies do not (particularily the last game Depp lent his voice to). We'll find out next week just how memorable the game is.

very nice, yet sucks that he didnt have his voice in Kingdom Hearts 2, although that voice actor did an excellent job and you couldn't tell it wasn't Depp without seeing the credits..

The new secret level will also allow you to:
•direct really awful B horror movies
•establish the American cocaine market 30 years ago
•infiltrate the mafia and become the protégé of Al Pacino
•smoke a lot of opium instead of investigating the Jack the Ripper killings
•track down books authored by the devil
•and be a wimp in front a snarling headless Christopher Walken
Normally I don't go for movie tie-ins, but it's starting to look appetizing. Scumptious, even.

I don't believe he lent his voice to Charlie and the Chocolate factory either. It was another actor named James Taylor (presumably not the I've seen fire and I've seen rain guy).
Has Johnny Depp done voice work in a VG before?

Really? I don't think having Patrick Stewart added much, if anything to Oblivion. I guess having the "authentic" voice of Jack Sparrow for Jack Sparrow is better than having the authentic voice of Jean Luc Picard for Emperor Uriel Septim, but still ... in these days of ballooning dev costs, is putting a movie star on the payroll the best way to manage the budget to produce the best possible game?

Movie based games are some of the best selling ones because the names are famliliar to the mainstream audience. But yeah paying a hollywood bigshot for his vocals does sound like a hinderance when profits are a factor. Bu if anything, Johnny Depp should have played a part in Kingdom Hearts 2.
