Since I don't particularly care about wireless controllers, I'd probably go with the Core System if there were a range of hard drive capacity chocies at reasonable prices. The low end, 20GB, should be $60 and go up from there.

As for price drops in general, don't expect any changes until the 2nd Quarter of 2007 or later. Chartered Semiconductor is supposed to begin delivering the Xbox 360 CPU at 65 nm in the 1st Quarter but it'll take time for those to find their way into retail inventory. Initially they just be used on the existing system design but once they have the GPU also at 65 nm they can make a smaller 360 with much less costly power and cooling components to go with the lower cost chipset's reduced needs.

I think that they will probably bundle an MGS title like Kameo or PGR3 or maybe add the camera for free. Either way the 360 still looks like a steal next to the PS3 price. Especially when all the best titles will be on the 360 this Fall.

Heh. Seriously. I'm usually one to buy every new system when they come out (aside from upgrades like the DS lite) but I'm really not feeling the PS3. I'm sure that I'll get one eventually and there will be some killer titles on it, but with my 360 oozing fun it's really hard to justify dropping $600 on a PS3. It will likely be a winter of wii for me. ...and 360 of course :)

I don't see why anyone's surprised by this. Peter Moore already confirmed at the last E3 that there will be no price cut for the 360 for some time to come. He even said that the 360 essentially got a price cut when Sony announced the PS3's price.

Yeah it doesn't make any sense to cut prices when the competition (Wii and PS3) will both likely be sold out due to shortages, plus a lot of solid titles will be out for the 360 and the other two platforms will be on launch titles. For the same reason I don't see a cut on PS2 or Xbox. Any cuts will likely not happen til 07.

It also doesn't make good business sense to go public and say "Oh, yeah. Our product will totally be cheaper in six months' time." because you KILL YOUR SALES that way.

If they officially confirmed a price drop, then people would just WAIT and wouldn't buy the 360 for the next six months. What executive is DUMB enough to do that to his own business?

Seriously, guys. Use your brains.

epobirs, get wireless controllers it's so much better than wired. Alot better. Ask other 360 owners they'll agree.

I expect Microsoft to clean up come Christmas. Gears will be released plus Saints Row and Crackdown. On the near front Chrome Hounds I think is going to be huge LIVE. Plus of course Battle for Middle Earth 2.

On a side note I expect the PS3 to be delayed beyond November. Sony's Blu-ray has just been delayed from July to end of October which doesn't bode well for PS3. I expect the PS3 to be delayed maybe until early next year. Personally I think it's a bit of a con plus I dislike being lied to by Sony execs.

NB I was a PS2 owner

While I think its silly to cut the price when the competition will cost more, I wouldn't put it beyond the realm of possabilities for Microsoft to offer a version with an HD-DVD drive included for $500.

Hmmm.... I agree with most of the comments here... A price cut right now would be stupid since the Holiday season is coming, and its more likely that the people will fork out some extra cash ....

The best time for a price cut would be when the PS3 is getting ready for a large scale launch... Which I think should be around early-mid 2007.

On the other hand, its not the best news for the people...

Just because there's no price cut (yet), doesn't mean there won't be a value added bundle.

If Microsoft neither introduces a new bundle or a price cut they're missing out on a HUGE opportunity.

I wouldn't expect Microsoft to announce anything this early, even if they're considering a price cut or bundle. It would hurt existing sales.
