I hope these stats are truly collected anonymously, otherwise it'd be kind of funny if someone broke in and started a website called "noobornot.com" that lists the top most horrible Episode 1 players and their phone number/mailing address. It'd be like a GamerTag of shame :)

As pertains dificulty, I played HL2 on hard, but didn't realize it 'til I had beaten it. I went "okay, I just breezed through this game on normal, time to play it again on hard!" but when I went to the options screen, I saw it was already on hard. Perhaps they should use the doom scale of "Please don't hurt me!" to "Nightmare", 'cause I need a new challenge.

That is precisely why I never play online-nobody's gonna steal my I.D. No way!

You mean that 19.05% played through HL2:E1 on easy. Poor chaps, they aren't truly experiencing the near impossibility of effective resistance under a massive totalitarian alien rule. Maybe Easy is more along the lines of stealing the family car for a joyride - relaxing, certainly, and a fun activity for listening to loud music, smoking a blunt, and having mad monkey sex; all at the same time!

...I can see the merit. But Hard? Now that's good ninja training: Learning the sly ways of the Excessive Quicksave in order to replay each second of every fight scene a dozen times until the amount of health and ammo expended, and psychological damage done has been minimized. Or is that just me?

I love Valve because they actually update and work hard to make games fun

I beat Episode 1 on hard mode and had 7 hours of fun

The fact Valve is actually using statistics and trying to improve the next games they make is amazing. They are starting a trail that many will follow.

I love you Valve

Its great to see Big Companys actually caring about their products and making real efforts to make them better rather then relying on hype to rake in the sales.

Fixed the (even more incredulous) numbers. Thanks, Jon.

What about those dubious fellows who play the stolen versions? Are they factored in or not?

I really hope some big dumb cry babies have some sort of problem with this and ruin it for everyone else.

"Bzzzt! Looks like most of us (especially the aforementioned 19.05%) are breezing through it in the 3-1/2 to 4-1/2 hour range."

Errr, wrong. Look at the page again. Average completion time is five hours.

#12: From the article: (Note: the "Average completion time" is 5 hours exact due to some stragglers beefing that number up ... c'mon, 10 hours?)
