More chaperones in China's Internet cafes

Young Chinese gamers won't have to worry about Fel Orcs, Forest Trolls, and Warp Stalkers when playing the Burning Crusade, so much as they will the newly appointed security guards patrolling the aisles at their local Internet cafe. It's campaign time again in China, and from July 1 through the end of September, the Ministry of Culture will be stepping up efforts to keep minors out of the nation's cyber cafes. In Beijing alone, 107 additional security guards, as well as newly trained middle school teachers will be supervising 71 such hangouts. Talk about a cruel summer.

Yep!
And the companies that are rushing to China like it's the next San Francisco gold rush.
Did you know that the government OWNS all the land in China? There is no private ownership whatsoever. Business in China LEASE the land... usually a 99 year term, but you know who's in control. The Chinese government can pull your lease at any time.
Let Freedom Ring, Baby!
It'll be interesting to see how much the government loosens up when the Olympics hit in 2008.

Stufff like this that makes you realize the freedoms we take for granted. We throw around the term Big Brother all the time, but that first pic of the policeman in the computer lab/library is creepy.

Man, you gotta love these left wing governments. Thats nuts.

There is the fact that webcafes are 18+ only by law. Those guards are to make sure there are no minors there, not to control what the regular people are doing in there. No BS talk about freedom this and that, it's the law here.

to Local Foreigner ... I lived since my born to my 14 in communist country ... luckily we throw commies away (unluckily we did not shoot them ... yet) and I must say it is bullshit what you are saying. That policeman there is to control everyone (minors and regulars), because he is policeman in commie state. That is his job to do the CONTROL. Law or no law.

to #1. China is not a Communist country, they stoped being communist after Mao and his insane culteral revolution murdered all the real communists in china to consolidate power even more. Nazi were called National socialists but they weren't socialists they were fascists. Just because you call yourself one thing doesn't make it so. America says it's a democracy but has some of the most undemocratic institutions in the world, and a says it was a free market system but the corporative system it really has spits in the face of everything the free market stands for...

#7 ... China is reformed nazi country ... which is called communist with nationalist accent ... I lived in commie country during so called "perestrojka" and "normalization" and it was very close to what happenend in China in the begining (besides luckily our commies were stupid so it crumbles down and we can live now more freely). I am affraid you have no idea what is free country because when I compare France and US I must say US is more free and working country (yes and I lived in both countries for a while).

Soviet Communism and Chinese Communisn are two very different things. Even if you used to live in a soviet communist state before, I live in China now and it's nothing like that. Modern China and some old soviet state are NOT the same thing.
fludblud @ Jun 28th 2006 2:06AM
Sep, stop shoving BS up our asses. this is China, the absolute WORST example of communism on the planet (ever wondered why their economy is doing so well? you now have 1.3 billion people utilising a free market economy), ffs, the only truely communist thing about china is the name of the party that controls the nation.
the CCP is worried about youths spending an "unhealthy" amount of time in internet cafes and these guards are only there to stop under 18s.
just because you lived in a soviet country does not automatically mean that you know everything about a country on the other side of the world.

This further reinforces the fact that I hate China's government. Seriously, those guys are so oppressive, and their own people don't realize it because they're oppressed just that much. Not to mention the lies the Chinese government makes up about the rest of the world.
