I played Hero Online for about a week, but quit because I'm kinda tired of MMOs and levelling treadmills in general.

However, I give Hero Online the credit it deserves, it's nice to finally see a decent non-medieval MMO. Graphics are pretty nice, as well as the theme. Although it does need some cosmetic touches in places.

For example, a female character in town should not have a male voice :)

I honestly haven't played far enough into the game to give a decent review, but the first ten levels, getting a pet, some decent equipment, etc. It stood out from the other MMOs in a good way.

Although, minus 50 dkp for recycling Diablo II sounds.

i played it for about an hour, it consisted of pressing the next target key, perssing the attack key, picking up the loot. Once in a while the gms would give me an antibot quiz asking a simple question like 4+2=?

the game is a waste of time

I too played the closed beta for a few weeks and it was pretty fun. It does get boring pretty fast, as most MMOs do, but it's fun for a time. And it's free!

Call me when someone comes up with an MMO that isn't about grinding.

I was in the closed beta for a couple of days, and it was nothing but grinding, including the occasional quest every few levels that had you out hunting specific creatures. I was level 18 after about 8 hours of play, and that's without really knowing what was going on initially.

The change to character classes was good in concept, but they could stand to add a lot more to them. All you have to look forward to is a new weapon every few levels and a new skill every 10 or so.

I played for two days in the Open Beta. The setting of the game is great, although the story is pretty dull and is told in poor English.

You are forced into being a male or a female depending on the 4 basic character types you pick. There is no visual customization of characters whatsoever. You also pick up male and female equipment, which is nothing more than an effective way of making half of the items you pick up worthless to you.

You also cannot whisper (IM) people until you are level ten, so if you plan on starting up with some friends, you'll have a hard time finding eachother and communicating until you grind for a bit.

Also, in PvP there are no limits to the amount of hp restoring potions you can drink, so it effectively becomes a chugging contest between who has more potions in their inventory. This coupled with the fact that combat skills never miss, making dodge and hit rate (and therefore anyone who is not a warrior class with only strength trained) an extreme gimp.

The grind is extremely boring, the quests are even worse and usually a waste of time, and everyone has the same stuff as there are only a handful of items in the game.

Concept - Great
Story - Crap
Gameplay - Crap

I have played the game since the start of open beta and overall it is not terrible. At the same time it is not in the same class as the major MMO games like WOW, EQ2, etc. The graphics are beautiful and the animations are incredible. The sound effects are poor and the overall ambience of the sound leaves a lot to be desired.

The game features a questing system that is actually more than go kill 100 of this thing and come back. For those that have tried silk road online, you will appreciate this improvement. Other than that it is a lot like SRO in many ways. Several of the quests are broken and one even tells you to go to the wrong guy and it is still not fixed. There is NO character customization at all. You will be one of 4 characters so there is very little difference between you and everyone else in this game. There is a lot of grinding to do as with any asian MMO. Asian players must really love to sit there and mash the target/attack button combination because this is what most of the MMO that come from that area feature.

Overall this is a cool game for free but it gets old really fast. I have a level 18 (1 Dan 8 Kyu) on dragon 6 server and will keep it for those times I get tired of the traditional and want to go and beat up on stuff but that is about all. I can't see this being anyones main MMO.
