Let's see, Wipeout Sold me on the PS1, Wipeout Pure sold me a PSP, and Wipeout Fusion was a huge motivator for getting a PS2.

They want to see the future of the Wipeout series, look to the past. Useful weapons, long tracks, a nice variety of vehicles, and most importantly... lots of color and awesome music!

Still... $660 to get this game just isn't gonna do it. I'll get it when the PS3 is cheaper and Wipeout (um... 7?) is in the bargain bin.

Wipeout 3 - My fav PS1 game, I still play it.

Wipeout is an outstanding game series. I've played them all and given the craptastic Wipeout Fusion, Sony owe us a good console version again.

I really hope Wipeout on PS3 sucks. I love Wipeout, but I really don't want to buy a PS3. Maybe give us a new PSP version (with the ability to create tracks and share them with other users) as well as ONLINE play. Or even better... even though I know it would never happen, give us Wipeout on the Wii.

Perfect for PS3's motion sensing controller.

Tim -

Maybe... maybe not. If there is a lag with the controller as people have said, it wouldn't work. I had the Microsoft motion sensor controller and it seemed like it would be a dream for games like that, but it wasn't.

Not bashing the PS3 controller, it could have it's uses for sure. But if it's anything like previous efforts it won't be the best for a high-speed racing game.

Yes, Wipeout should work quite well with the motion sensing controller. I loved it so much it would *almost* be a reason to put up the cash for the system. There just don't ever seem to be any good futuristic racing games released anymore. But hey, $600 + $75 for the game...maybe not.

I remember watching TV one time and a commercial for Wipeout 3 came on. Well i wasn't exactly looking at the TV, i was doing my highschool math homework, but what triggered me to look up was the amazing song that is Sahsa - Xpander. Xpander has to be in my all time top 3 favorite songs of all time. The tune in itself was a system seller for me. Let's hope they continue the trend in the future releases of this game and get some big name edm artists to write the music.

As long as tDR does the graphics again, I'll be happy.

That's right Mr. Mutis. The Designers Republic helped to make Wipeout XL the great visual experience that it was. TDR = BEST DESIGN COMPANY EVA!!

The odds of The Designers Republic doing WipEout again are zero. Not only are they completely over it, but Michael C Place, who was responsible for WO3, has long since left the studio.

Wipeout is one of the greatest gaming series ever... a PS3 version would definitely make me very, very excited. I still play Wipeout 3 regularly, although on my PC through an emulator... nothing beats high-def texture-sharpened anti-gravity racing goodness :)

I don't get why no one notices the terrible bias in this ridiculous writing; "Seeing as how WipEout Pure remains one of the PSP's few bright spots"-- the writer doesn't bother justifying the statement at all, and can't, since it's a generalization, which is a fallacy. I swear joystiq is just a Sony-hating MS cover-up. Microsoft created a web site, called joystiq, and put little fan boys writing really bad blogs. And we have to come here because we need the news. What we don't need is the bias. Wanna be a writer? Grow up and do it right, and stop offering your opinions on everything, especially unjustifiably.

Just curious why people are so vexed about a $650cdn high end multimedia machine / console but you never hear people complain about the $699cdn video cards? Sure people can buy the mid range stuff but I think the PS3 is a good deal for people looking for a blu-ray player and a console in one.

Hard to bash it either until it's out. I mean, it's easy enough to bash the 360 because the lack of games is surprising (even after 8 months of it being released). I always figured the 360 would have been baked by about this timeframe anyways.. they needed the rush to market to gather market share too.

Regardless, I'm in for a PS3 (still have my PS2 library of games) and probably a Wii. I might think of the 360 is there are any MUST have games. I've played them all at my buddies place and there is nothing next gen about them when compared to a high end PC. That being said, XBL is extremely well done. Kudos to MS for finally innovating on that front.

Hmmm looksl ike I went off topic - my bad. Wipeout is a great series and I look forward to any future installments.

Michael C. Place; do you have a bit more information about him? And isn't a more detailed article of tDR's part in WO?

I read in a game magazine, that the next edition would be called WipeOut Future, created by Sony's Liverpool Studios...

Michael C. Place left tDR to set up Studio Build in 2001. For those who are interested, more info is here> www.designbybuild.com
Incidentally, he worked on all versions of Wipeout on the PS1 [1/2/3/& Special Edition].

Just curious, what are peoples thoughts on the graphics being done on a possible PS3 version of Wipeout..should they be by tDR, or by Michael C. Place/Build??
