2001: A Space Oddity? Is it the same as 2001: A Space Oddisey but with David Bowie as HAL? that would KICK.ASS.

I preordered this one today. From the videos I've seen, this looks to be anything but Mediocre.

Somehow I expected something different after reading that introduction. Something more... interesting.

After "Prey is more than your standardized Quake or Doom rip-off. It has elements of what's worked in thinking man FPS offerings, like Half-Life 2." I expected to read an article about design choices and their influence on gameplay, but instead I get this waaaayyy to long explanation of the graphics, the levels, the weapons and the controls. (after that I stopped reading, so I didn't even get to the part about the AI, the puzzles and the multiplayer)

Usually I wouldn't complain about this. I know that a lot of people like this kind of preview. But the introduction got me interested, and then I was let down. That's why I decided to comment.

Robert Summa,
Really nice job on the review. I feel like I have a pretty good sense of how this game is going to be. I appreciate your review style being straight to the point without a bunch of urban rhetoric and fluff. Keep it up.

"I never buy games before I rent them that's why I have gamefly and I'm renting prey because I won't probably like it. unlike some other people ..."

How is this relevant to anything in the post? Are you just a gamefly plant? Is this just the random post you chose to randomly say you rent before buying? Is "unlike other people" meant to translate to "unlike other complete morons who would actually be stupid enough to buy a game before renting it like a 140+ IQ person would?" Enquiring minds want to know.

How did "I'm renting prey because I won't probably like it" get to "I can't wait to play PREY!!!" in less than 30 minutes?

Sounds like it may be fun, but probably just because there's hardly anything shipping for the 360 right now. And a few years down the road I don't think this game will stand out.

Prey was another game for me that I thought would suck, going in.

I've seen it many times in its many stages of development and nothing ever wow'ed me to the point where I was like, "I gotta play this game!"

So, I was pretty shocked at how deep the story seems to be and all the little nuances to it. The Prey people couldn't tell me too much because of spoilers and all, but I was left actually wanting to hear the story more than play the game.

Overall, I was just glad the controls were solid and there was enough variety and good-paced action to keep me entertained.

Good idea, Jimine X.

Or you could just download the demo.

I'm pretty good at this game, been playing the demo for a bit and I'll probably pick it up when it drops.

If anyone sees "A guy with a gun" on their server, that's me.

"and stop correcting me all the time I know my english sucks "

I never corrected you or implied your english sucks.

"you started this argument, and maybe if you would of just ignore me we wouldn't be arguing"

I never argued with you (until this sentence I guess).

"P.S. I can be really annoying so don't make me mad"

Sorry. I wouldn't want to anger you.

How many FPS use that gravity effect where up and down can be interchanged? How bout those mini planets?

Little interesting things like that really make a game for me. I really can't wait to lan this game up, also can't wait to play a CTF mode for this game. Though one thing they need is more wide open stages for those people that don't like a chaotic multiplayer.

This game is going to be very good. It's worth 50 bucks and will be more original than 80% of FPS's out there.

Ahem...

"I AM TUROK!"

Was echoing through my head as I played the PC Demo. It was a blast in either case. Excuse me for making non-relevant statements.

I cant wait to play this. hopefully the demo comes out before the game hits store shelfs. Hey Robert, I also liked your review style, it just felt natural like if a buddy was telling me about the game. Lately, the video games magazines dont tell you much about the game they are reviewing. Good job.

Y'know I didn't see anything about graphics. How are they say compared to the PC version? And how is the framerate? If I'm paying 10 dollars extra for this, I want at least damn near close PC level.

The 360 should be at a point now where only the most hardcore PC owners would have the hardware to look and feel better than the 360. It looks like Prey will come close to that, but, it doesn't seem to be "the one".

Even so, the PC demo is pretty cool, I expected less, so I hope the 360 version is as good as the reviews. I haven't had a lot of anticipation for a 360 game since Fight Night so I'm looking forward to something new and this seems to be worth a shot.

I asked the producers that very same question and they said it was the same.

As far as the console vs PC debate, we could go on for decades with that. It all has to do with comfort level. I happen to live in an apt where I tend to play console more than PC simply because it's more comfortable to sit on my couch and do so. If I had a sweet desk and all, I'm sure I'd be playing PC more.

I found the PC demo rather unexciting. The gravity manipulation and spirit walking were nice touches, but on the other hand, I absolutely hated the confined corridor design. What bothered me the most was the fact that it was way too easy to just hold position and snipe everything down. But hey, to each its own.

@ zs450 (21): No. My PC is 2 years old. I upgraded to 1GB ram, and I have an 7600 GS (from XFX), which is ~110€ right now, and I played the demo on high detail in 1024x768 - And it was completely fluent. There was still some room for increased graphics detail (anti-aliasing, higher resolution etc.) but overall I don't expect the 360 version to have any better graphics than on my old PC. I bought this PC 2 years ago for ~ 600€ and bought upgrades for 150€.

So this game should look as good on not-high-end PCs as on the 360. Especially considering that Oblivion (the other Game for PC and 360) had waayy decreased detail settings on the 360. (pop-in grass for example...)

Prey is one of those games that I have been following for quite some time now. I can't remember when I first heard about it, but I do remember that I was intrigued. This is one of those games that it seems like every other update would contradict the last one. One week the games is looking good and the next week it's full of problems, all hype, don't be a sucker, etc...
Now that the release date draws near, (and no 360 demo, ahem...) it's good to read a review like this one, straightforward and not alot of lines wasted on regurgitating PR hype. I plan on getting a copy on release day and have been for some time, partly because I finished Oblivion some time ago and the only other releases since then I have picked up were Table Tennis and Uno. I need to blow the crap out of something and Prey sounds like it should take care of me for awhile. I'm also hoping that Dead Rising holds up, because killing zombies is always fun.
