Track7 responds: "we never cancelled something that did not exist"
Earlier this morning, we pointed to a questionable report that suggested developer Track7Games had canceled the PS3 version of their adventure title Theseis due to overwhelming development costs. Track7Games has responded, posting this statement on the company website:"PS3land.com wrote an erroneous article on June 29, 2006 regarding track7games and our upcoming game, "Theseis".
track7games would like to clarify that we never cancelled something that did not exist in the first place. We plan to develop "Theseis" for PC and Xbox360 in the near future. As for the PS3, we simply made a strategic decision to not move ahead because we deemed it not probable at this time."
[Thanks, Fivos]

I don't see how this changes much. From what I see, there is still a company that is developing for 360 and PC, but not for PS3. Does it really make a difference WHEN they decided not to make their game for PS3? Not really. The only question that matters is......why?

I take back all of my previous comments. ^_^ Still wont be able to afford a PS3, but at least the developers arent giving up on it yet...

The amount of rabid, anti-Sony fanboy ranting on the internet is staggering and what is really funny about it is how it doesn't reflect the overall view of gamers in general, yet the net-obsessed minority of Playstation haters somehow think that they are in the majority.
lol
C, Ravitch @ Jun 29th 2006 1:25PM
Well this is just the tip of the iceburg for PS3 development!! I know that the company stated that being the game does not exsist yet that it's really not canceling it, but I'm sure there is a little truth to the HUGE Dev. costs with this sytem!! I would'nt be suprised if this becomes the trend with the PS3 and more and more companies pick the 360 and PC as it's system's of choice!!
devi8i @ Jun 29th 2006 1:25PM
Wow. If you listen to teh insightful posters on this blog you would think that NIntendo not making a new Mario game for PS3 means that sony is doomed and no one wants to develop for it.... If something is made for PC does it mean we HAVE to see a port for 360 AND PS3 as well.... Track7 said nothing about development for Wii so I guess they dont have the budget for that either and big N is doomed.
I love the shoddy assumptions on thsi blog.
Small studios are afforded some luxury in developing for 360 and PC simultaneously thanks in part to the XNA tools provided by MS. XNA enhances the ability to repurpose code and assets across the two platforms and reduce production costs and time. A smaller studio trying to make money does not equate to bad news for SONY or that Sony's products will fail. Nintendo has proven time and time again that they can make plenty of money developing most of their games in house.
And, at the end of the day all of these companies are in the business of making money not entertaining our sorry asses. Entertaining us is a byproduct of making money. Sony will do just fine. Plenty of developers will make plenty of great games for PS3 that will not make it to 360 and vice versa.

Holy Crap....But wait!....Gears of War and Prey are right around the corner!!!.....ready to bomb...please, go put your xbox 1.5 on ice, it's overheating..

"the net-obsessed minority of Playstation haters"
Right....as opposed to the Rich gaming majority?
Think, Mr. Nutcase.
The Internet community is usually the ones with the discretionary time and money to afford the PS3. And they are the ones saying it's too expensive.
They are also the "word of mouth" the industry relies on to get the message of value to everyone else (that rich majority you've conjured up).
So let's summarize
Reviewers - PS3 is too expensive
Internet community - PS3 is too expensive
Smaller Development companies - PS3 is not in our strategy.
Who, aside from Sony and some fanboys, are telling everyone it's worth $600? Not many.
darkspartan288 @ Jun 29th 2006 1:32PM
Sony sucks. Always has always will. Get over people. Microsoft isn't doing much better I'm afraid. As for Nintendo, just shut up and wait.
ihateuall @ Jun 29th 2006 1:42PM
if it costs more to make ps3 games than that means they are better looking than 360 games
just putting it out there..........
devi8i @ Jun 29th 2006 1:42PM
All the fanboys please open your wallets.......
The only word out of MS fanboys as of late is "PS3 costs too much"
Is that all you can say??? I have spent a lot of money on my 360, games etc... AND a little over 2k on a tv to go with it. Think I really care if the PS3 costs $600. And I am betting there are plenty of others just like me who have a 360, a PS2, a gamecube, had or have a original xbox, own at least one itteration of gameboy (ds lite on my desk now with tetris ds) who will also be buying the Wii AND the PS3.
HOw much is the 360 premium.....$399 How much is the wireless adapter $99, how much is the XBL gold $49
Ok so thats $550. The $600 PS3 has all of that. Lets not even belly-ache over blue-ray hd-dvd dvd nonsense A comperably equipped 360 vs. PS3 is only $50 less. Thats $10 less than the cost of new 360 game title.
All of a sudden it makes your price argument moot now doesnt it.
darkspartan288 @ Jun 29th 2006 1:55PM
No, devi, it doesn't. You're rich. We got that. Others aren't. So, we CAN'T FREAKING AFFORD IT. Got it? The fact that you can doesn't change anything. You're 1 out of like 20. We're not spending that much on a damn GAME SYSTEM.

I was wondering where all the arrogant, faux-fact finding PS3 supporters went to. I had almost thought maybe they had all been forced to move out of their parents house and were thereby without Internet access, but thank goodness I was wrong.
I think saying this is an anti-Sony play by Sony or 360 fans is wrong, but I've come to expect arrogance and short-sghtedness from people who blindly support a short-sided, arrogant Japanese electronics company like Sony. Kotaku also ran this story too, as did a majority of other gaming blogs. So what's that mean? It means that even without a story like this one, right or wrong, the public perception of Sony's next-gen play has already been established. I'd say the PS3's popularity is at an all time low right now, but even if Sony said they kick puppies, there would still be a small % of people who still blindly support the system. Amazingly enough, they have all managed to assemble in this forum today.
I've asked this several times this week on Joystiq, and I'll ask it again here: What will the PS3 provide for me that is not already available and for a lower price? Better graphics? Nope. Cutting edge online play? Nope. Exclusive titles? The selection is getting more slim by the day. A DVD format that's guaranteed to be around in 5 years (the life of a console)? Not known at this time, but we can always use a "Where are they now" on UMDs for a little hint. A back catalogue of 1000's of classic titles? Nope. A buy in price of less than $600. Nah, try $800+ A clear cut strategy on whether or not it's a console or a PC? Nope, it's pretty schizo on that point.
One of the reasons MS hasn't really come out guns blazing for a DVD format is that they probably believe, as many people do, that digital media wil be the norm sooner than later, leaving Sony with yet another useless proprietary media format to add to their growing pile of useless proprietary media mediums.
But, by all means, swear at me. Call me a "360 bitch" like Pedro does. I neither have nor will buy a 360 anytime soon. I own a Ps2. So far, all I see coming down the pipe from Sony is a graphics update to that system. Prove me wrong with facts, please.

OMAC @ Jun 29th 2006 2:09PM
Devi8i, you are making some pretty broad assumptions in your cost breakdown. Sony hasn't announced their plans for their online strategy yet, so it's a bit premature to say you are getting XBox Live Gold equivalent with the PS3. Also, the wired controller is a non-issue for many people. If I were to buy the PS3 I would still probably use the wired cable, making the addition of a wirelss NIC useless to me.
Is the PS3 crammed full of cutting edge technolgy and worth $600? Yes, but not to many gamers. They don't want all this crap shoved down their throats so Sony can win some stupid format war. Blu Ray gives you no technical advantage over DVD. Yes you get increased capacity, but how many games come on multiple DVDs? The answer is NONE. Now it looks like Sony is going to charge more than $60 for games just to subsidize their fight against HD-DVD. Do you want to pay $600 for the PS3 and $70+ for games for the privelage of watching your cut-scenes in HD? Because that's what it boils down to.
I just installed Dreamfall on my PC, it was a whopping 6 CDs worth of data, that's about 4GBs, still able to fit on a single DVD. Sony has gone on record stating that the PS3 is not a game machine. Too many ingredients in the pie, and way too many CRAZY cooks in the kitchen.
Fimmy @ Jun 29th 2006 2:11PM
This just in: Sony sucks (based on information that has yet to surface, and despite all evidence to the contrary)
Silly little fanboys! So far, the only thing you've been able to get to stick to the PS3 is the price. It cracks me up the way a story emerges, and you all rant, then the story is proven false, and you all continue to rant anyway.
I fear for you and your inability to embrace reality, little fanboys. If you can't afford a PS3 in November, how will you ever afford drugs?
I'm getting a PS3, and the best games available. Have fun playing with your WiiNES.
Andy S. @ Jun 29th 2006 2:12PM
Yes, truly, this is the death knell for Sony. Who among the console giants could ever hope to survive being turned aside by a twelve-person Greek development stuidio?
After all, developing for the PS3 is REALLY HARD! Especially when your studio not only has no experience developing for the PS3, but has never produced a game before, EVER!
And really, you have to believe that the PS3 is going to be missing out on an AWESOME game, because their "about us" page describes them as a "team of hard-core gamers whose idea of a great night out includes their PSP always".
They're PSP fans! And you know that if they love the PSP experience, they'll put out something just as good as all of the totally amazing games available for the PSP!

Either you're rich or you still live with your parents. Nothing wrong with that but don't boast about it. I really want a PS3 but with bills and school, it's seems impossible.
darkspartan288 @ Jun 29th 2006 2:22PM
PS3 costs too much, and it has turned off a lot of would-be customers. End of story. Those who still support Sony can do as they please, but hear this: It's extremely overpriced and you're getting majorly ripped off. Period. If you want to be stupid and waste your money, by all means don't let a bunch of "silly-little-Wii-360-fanboys" stop you. But when you realize that your $600 system was made by Sony and won't last you longer than a year before it either breaks or you're evicted because you can no longer afford rent, don't come crying to us.
devi8i @ Jun 29th 2006 2:42PM
Ha, Im not rich nor do I live with my parents.....
However, I do have one more bit to throw in the fire
MS Xbox360 Wireless adapter card $99 DS LITE $129 (with built in wireless) and a web browser coming too hmmm
IF we follow xbox fanboy logic then the only real choice to buy would be a nintendo ds because with 360 fanboys ITS ALL ABOUT THE PRICE!!!!
ps 3 sucks because it costs more than 360 so DS AND Wii must be better than 360 because they both cost less......
Scooby Doo @ Jun 29th 2006 2:44PM
I can't help but wonder if this is really news at all. In particular, hasn't it always been easier to port PC games to the Xbox/Xbox 360? The first one had an Intel chip, this latest model is using a PowerPC chip, and of course, they both run Microsoft software. Any developers out there who would know this answer? Epobirs, how about you?
I look at this article as more of an affirmation that a Microsoft console is going to get more PC games than the other two. It's awfully hard to buy in that this is somehow the beginning of the end for Sony.
We should all be ENCOURAGING competition as opposed to bashing a console that we still haven't even played for ourselves. I for one still love my Japanese RPG's. Given the poor penetration of either Xbox in that country, and the unproven control scheme of the Wii, who else can I count on to deliver me the next Growlanser title?
devi8i @ Jun 29th 2006 2:45PM
#29 If teh ps3 wireless controllers are half as good as the 360 wireless controllers then that is then wireless is teh only way to go. I have to give it up, MS made some damn fine wireless controllers that are damn spot on. Good action, good layout, nice feel, great wireless range and battery life. There is mixed feelings on the dpad but I dont use that much anyways. I was never a real fan of wireless controllers even with the much praised wavebirds. But let me reitterate: The 360 has damn good wireless controllers....... going back to wired controllers would be hard for me
Jay @ Jun 29th 2006 2:53PM
The world cares less and less about Microsoft and Sony day by day. and it's not like Nintendo are saviours. they have the right publicity people. thats all MS and Sony need.
oh, and a better PS3 for a lower price too.
All Your Lost Socks @ Jun 29th 2006 2:58PM
I think everyone is overreacting. Why does it matter? They decided to go another route, and that's their decision. That's not the death knell for Sony, by any means.
The console is not all that Sony works on. Sony thrives perfectly well in their own right, as a company. Please keep "Sony" separate from "PS3" when you are describing exactly what is failing.
The downfall of their upcoming console lies in skewed ratio of cost versus features. It's turning developers away to some degree. It's that simple.
But I do have something to say about it, even if I think it's a non issue in the long run for gamers themselves. I own a PS2, the original fat one. I also own a Gamecube and a DS Lite, and I spend a fair amount of time on my boyfriend's xboxes (original and 360). I also play PC games. My exposure to each is relatively equal, granted I play the GC less often than my DS.
I am not speaking from a fangirl perspective in the least, because let me tell you something: when I go to play a game, I do not think "would I rather play on the PC, DS, GC, or PS2?"
No.
I think "What game do I feel like playing?" And in the end, that is all it comes down to.
It falls to the game developer to create games that people want to play, with the financial resources they have.
It falls to the console developer to provide ample resources for these developers to spread their games out on, and interfaces to which they can apply their concepts - and provide this to the highest quality, price aside.
It falls to the gamer to decide what it is WORTH IT TO THEM to invest in.
Sony's next gen console simply does not offer enough for the cost to either of those adjacent parties. That makes it only worth it to those who have a special interest in a particular game, an aspect of the hardware, or a loyalty to the console. There is no need to throw around words like "fanboy." 'Nuff said.
Mal F4cti0n @ Jun 29th 2006 3:06PM
Of the 7 people I know who own a PS2, they bought the system because "it was only $199" or "it was only $149", and they only have one version of Madden and two or three versions of Tiger Woods Golf.
Of the three people I know who bought an Xbox, they bought it to play Halo and for XBL.
I bought a PS2 and an Xbox when they hit $149 and got XBL when Halo 2 came out. Halo 2 is the only game I play.
When the PS3 is $600 and the 360 is $400, who will get down to the magical $200 price point first? I would say the 360. When the people that only want to play the multi-platform games can play the same game on either system, they will buy the 360. The 360 will sell more consoles than the PS3, no contest. It is ridiculous to think that the system that is $200 more will sell better. The only reasons the PS2 won last time was because it was out first, people new the name and it was cheaper faster. Those three things will happen for the 360 this time, not only that, but the games will be cheaper.
Hey Sony Fanboy, try to convince a non-fanboy that they should spend $200 more on the system and $15 more per game because the "PS3 is soooo much better than a 360".

EXACTLY. THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE CONSOLES. 'nuff said.
Lifeless? You're here too, are you not?
JJ @ Jun 29th 2006 3:48PM
Well gaming aint a cheap hobby...BY Any standards... for those of you that think so... you're morons.
Even the 360 requires a substantial amount of money to be able to utilize the system to its fullest... when you're shelling out 1000+ on systems games and accessories and a TV... whats 1 or 200 more dollars on top of everything when it comes down to it really?
All the fanboyishness needs to stop, is the PS3 at 5 and 600 expensive? YES it is, but is the 360 much cheaper? No its not, its 400 bucks. Yes you can say its 299, but to geat the real experience out of the console you need to have the 399 version. and to utilize ANY of the new tech in these systems you ahve to have a high def capable TV which is 600+ dollars, Broadband which is around 50 bucks a month, etc etc.
It all adds up.
SO to be a hardcore gamer adn then complain about price.. is silly.
(and before anyone calls me a fanboy, i have all 3 last gen systems and plan to get all 3 this gen, so i htink i'm pretty fair as i spread my wealth to each of the companies, granted i favor Sony more, cuz their system has more of the RPGs i do so love, doesnt mean i dont hope MS has a great showing or nintendo has a wonderful showing either, heck i hope all 3 do well)
To wish any of these companies would fail is just stupid.. why would you WANT to limit yourself to just one system? None of hte companies are infallible. They all mess up, None of em are perfect, so to act like they are and are the best at everything is stupid.
JJ @ Jun 29th 2006 3:52PM
Well JB... what has been a great original game on 360 so far? As far as i can see all the good ones have been sequels or part of a Series.
Come on you cant harp on a company for pumping out sequels if they sell... and its not like all those games are solely sony products, their products of Capcom, Namco, Konami etc.
If you're gonna diss sequels... then 360 fans cant say games like GRAW or Oblivion and such are good cuz their sequels too.
Sequels sell, simple as that. Yout hink there wont be anymore Gears of War or Prey if they sell well? Yout hink the only good games this gen are gonna be ALL original? Come on.
Anthony @ Jun 29th 2006 3:54PM
So I'm the first one out of 40+ comments to note how what they are saying makes absolutely no sense whatsoever? I have never cancelled a game that didn't exist, either.

well i'ms orry if i misinterpreted what you were saying, but what i said still holds true across the board ya know?
Cant harp on Sony or someone wanting sequels when thats what sells. Heck original game ideas are RARE these days. Most games are just different coatings over the same thing when you come right down to it ya know?
