Nintendo pipe organ goodness
If you're into Bowser anthems and pipe organs, then today is your lucky day. Follow the link and watch Harold Rodriguez from the University of Florida rock several Nintendo related themes on a nice fatty pipe organ. Best if listened to on a nice, loud stereo.[via 4cr]

IT'S
IT'S BEAUTIFUL.

My sister's going to UF this year... But right now she's on a plane to stay in Japan for a month... LUCKY!
But yeah, awesome tunes.

Now this really floats my boat. I'm a HUGE fan of orchestrated renditions of video game music. I have yet to hear something played on an organ and I must say this is some really cool stuff. I would actually go pay to see this as I'm sure it sounds even better in person. I know some may not call this type of thing news worthy (although isn't that why this is a blog as joystiq once commented earlier?) but I greatly appreciate this pppping up on the site. Kudos

I need to revise what I just said, near the end of the video he does his version of Dancing Mad from FFVI. This is one of my all time favorite songs. Seriously joystiq, a personal thank you.

Great music...
Louis S post #2. University of Florida is a total party school. Your sister is sooo going to get banged...

There should be a high-bandwidth warning. Even though it's safe to assume that a video is going to take a while to load on a 56k connection, many people on home connections (even broadband) have bandwidth limits.
Probot @ Jun 30th 2006 8:26PM
He's ok, but can he do it with a blindfold?
Seriously though, cool songs and great selection.
I once passed by a PBS program on TV where they were showing various organ performances, mostly in cathedrals. I asked my cousin, who was there with me, why is the most evil sounding music always played in churches. Right as he shrugged his answer, "Toccata and Fugue in D minor" started to play.
GSI @ Jun 30th 2006 8:55PM
...b/c the church isn't exactly the most squeeky-clean organization maybe?

I want Oblivion music played on a Banjo
LaughingTarget @ Jun 30th 2006 10:01PM
Gonna have to go against the flow here, but that wasn't all that hot. It was like he turned Magus' Theme into a Pop number at the mid-point and he absolutely trashed Rain.
There have been many better renditions on other instruments. We're just going to have to wait longer for the organ.
Crazylink @ Jun 30th 2006 10:30PM
That brings back some good memories...
Kamizar @ Jun 30th 2006 10:44PM
This great, I love it, I was wondering if anyone knew of some other good pipe organ music...

Actually, both were nice "personalizations" of the original tracks. Good to see him experimenting a bit and seperating himself from the from-the-sheet kids like The Video Game Pianist; at least he tried to imbue some personality into it, and that's respectable. Purism is ugly.

Wait, what? I go to the University of Florida. I need to look this guy up.
T-Bag @ Jun 30th 2006 11:56PM
Has this been posted before? I feel as if though I've seen this before, in fact everything I did pertaining to getting on my computer seems familiar. Da ja vu is gay.

That ominous organ number you can hear Ganondorf play as you get nearer and nearer to the top of his tower
in OOT; why didn't he play that? Oh well, great job on the other songs anyway.
jamil @ Jul 1st 2006 12:13AM
this guy should submit some stuff to ocremix.org
Paul Gale @ Jul 1st 2006 1:25AM
Wow, this is really some fantastic playing. I really appreciate the talents of people who can play instruments this well. I use to play the piano back in the day, but this organ piece by Harold Rodriguez is on a whole other level. From some truly great Nintendo music like Mario and Zelda to Final Fantasy...awesome work man.

Lionel @ Jul 1st 2006 7:44AM
Wow! That guy is great! The Super Mario World Bowser theme was dead on.
blendmaster @ Jul 1st 2006 2:31PM
that was awsome. Too bad the audio was pretty horrible. He should record just audio next time with a really good microphone.
jekiwi @ Jul 1st 2006 4:00PM
i'm very serious when i say, i cried.
orchestrated vg music is one type of music that can be either really beautiful or really stupid.
this was a masterpiece.
thank you harold rodriguez and joystick.
god bless you all.
ejflex @ Jul 1st 2006 8:34PM
Forget all that FF crap. THe Super Mario Castle theme was awesome.
Jonkay @ Jul 2nd 2006 7:23PM
This is amazing. I work at UF, RIGHT across the street from the music dept and where this is played. A 2 minute walk.
Also, I just graduated in this building and this is in the University Auditorium. If you were in the building and took in the interior architecture this experience would be 10 fold in awesomeness.
