Hmm... I hope they've finished the important stuff - like making the game fun - before they start bothering with useless graphical frivality.

We all know that sometimes it's that little extra detail that makes the difference between a great game and an honest-to-God killer app

Yes we do!

Agree with #1. For it to be a killer app and truely "next-gen" the physics, both between characters and in the environment ie. If i throw fire at a house or wood box it better catch fire! and if I bump into a character it better respond versus just walking thru him, needs to be there. Fully destructable enviroments, smart & realistic AI and it all needs to run smooth as butter at 60FPS. I know its a tall order but I think the Epic crew can pull it off. Then things like voice-synced animations can be added as the "sugar on top". Graphics are important and this game needs to have mind-blowing visuals. The hype for this game is well beyond anything for the 360, and a killer app is rare. The stage is set.

We all know this game will be good, as everyone who played it says how good it is. But i heard about it and how its not like halo and you take cover and shoot instead of just shoot. To me that sounds less fun. I will buy the game because if everyone is saying its great and all i will trust them but i just cant imagine how much fun multiplayer would be this way. Guess that what makes me want to play it even more though.

Gears of War signals the death of the old-school first-person-shooter. Epic took this direction to do something completely new. I hope that their risk taking proves worthwhile. I'm completely stoked.

Gears of War looks like Killzone did at last years E3. It's that good.

glfunkdaddy,

You have to take a lot of cover in Halo 2 in the abomination of a playlist "Team Snipers". The difference in GoW is that you can actually interact with the environment.

I guess it seems somewhat similar to the PDZ cover system, except a lot more interactive (shooting "blindly", hopping over an obstacle, etc.). It should add a lot more dynamics to it.

But, think about it #4. You and others will play more smart, rather than just shooting and ignoring the health bar. You and others will actually THINK about how to take those other guys out with cover tactics or just stand there and shoot like an idiot waiting to just respawn so you can do it all over again. I'm not an expert or anything but, I know quality when I see it and I hope thats what I see.

I wonder what they'll call it. Maybe "third person shooter"? Oh, wait..

That could make voice chat interesting.
Especially with people who have headsets that pick up everything. even the crappy music the play.

and the odd person who likes to sing into the mic.

Yeah, this sounds like a cool addition, but I think for me the jury's still out on this game in general, I don't think to whole blind fire and cover thing is for me. But this lip synching thing could be interesting for those who want to make a machinima(not sure on spelling there) with this game, because the lips would synch with what they are saying.

Real time lip synching has been done before in Rainbow six 3, however it was not done very well as the mouth movement was alike to that of a wooden puppet.

Wooden puppet? I'm not a puppet I'm a real boy! Anyway, yeah this game overall sounds amazing and probably does deserve all the massive pile-ons of hype.

LOL This games gonna rock hands down we know it... for those that are doubting if the pop and shoot will take away from the gameplay HAHAHA... you obviously havent read all the reviews... everyone thought that originally, that without all the runing and gunning it would be slow paced and boring... but after playing it at e3 it turns out this game is probably 2x as adrenaline pumped as the best run and gun game, the fact is it's a thinker but it's a game you have to think and fight at the same time cause if u sit idle you'll end up with some locust slamming over the cover and rittling you with a dozen bullets or worse yet cutting you in half with a chainsaw.

It's extremely fast paced and as soon as you get the hang of the cover and using the cover as fast as possible and getting from cover to cover ASAP you stand a chance to survive... i think the fact people cant just run around like 10 year olds shooting is awesome... most people don't really realize the other great feature of this :).... Little 10 year olds that try there "im so great" run around and shoot routine will get blasted to hell in GeoW... a game that takes brains, a slight dab of patience, and mad team work skills is exactly what the industry needed... lipsyncing and other small features just add to how kick ass this games gonna be

looks like the folks over at NextTechNews need to take a spelling course. Its "subtle", not "suttle". But anyway, this is just the icing on the cake. GeoW is going to rock, and lip synching is just going to make it that more amazing.

I dunno, the game looks like GRAW in space the way it's played. Which isn't bad by any means. I so can't wait for this game!
