"but based on the past, this one will more likely than not be a stinker"

How so?

I hope for nothing, because Michael Bay is directing the film.

I think he's referring to the PS2 game based off Armada, and maybe one or two other less-than-stellar TF games. I remember hearing something about a Generation 1-based game releasing in Japan only. Did that one do any better than state-side releases?

A good transformers game on next-gen consoles? That'd be nice. But after the last X-Men game by the same Activision, well I wouldn't keep my hopes up.

Just saw the movie trailer. Love it
Surely this game and movie will be big hit just like King Kong with the game. Down for Halo movie. Up for Transformers movie.

All I want is a GOOD Transformers game based on the original Generation 1 (the only one that didn't suck).

Is that too much to ask?

Umm, considering Activision did such a awesome job with Xmen Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance (E3 game of show from a lot of folks, no?), and Transformers would lend itself to that sort of game play- why are we expecting a stinker?

Did someone confuse Activision with EA again?

Despite the fact that it was based off of the 'new generation' Armada series, I really liked the most recent Transformers game. It wasn't AAA great, the controls could have used some work, the levels should have been thought through better, etc, but it was still pretty cool.

While not exactly what I would call 'transformers canon', it was pretty cool to get into a fight with Shockwave, whom I belive us old schoolers know as Tidal Wave. He's the one that transformed into a giant battleship.

Oh, and the last boss was Unicron. You just can't f' with that.
If they do at least AS good with the new game as they did the old one, I'll be pleased. I'd be more worried about this being another 'movie to game' release than a 'transformers game'.

WHY THE HELL WOULD IT BE A STINKER? Have you Joystiq people even PLAYED the Transformers Game on PS2? Its fantastic! When it was released it got rave reviews as well so its not just my opinion.

Its being made by a different developer but that doesnt instantly relegate it to Stinky dungeon.

Jeezuz, talk about negativity and narrow mindedness.

OH! I get it now... yeah, its a PS3 game... that explains the attitude...

Ah!
whoops.
re-reading that sentence a few times, I realize that it says: (Grammar adjusted for emphasis)
"more than likely, be a stinker"
and not:
"more than likely, not be a stinker"

gah. that was some awkward phrasing!

What does stink is that they will probably develop this game across all platforms including PS2. When the least common denominator is that low...we can assume that the graphics won't be all that great on the PS3 or 360 much like the recent X-Men game.

Maybe the one saving grace might be that Spielburg is Producing the movie. Maybe he'll take an active part in the creative process of the Game as well giving it a chance of being something more than mediocre.

Peter Jackson apparently stays involved with the Video Game aspect of his films to some level and I think it's helped those titles (King Kong, LOTR games by EA).

Effervescence:

I believe the game that you're talking about is Transformers: Tatakai.

If I were to compare it to a Transformer...the game would be Seaspray.

Yeah, there have been terrible TF games, but the one for the PS2 was fairly good. It certainly wasn't GOTY material, but it was a very solid action title with a good combination of exploration, combat, and a tad bit of strategy (i.e., your weapon / armor "loadout").

And there were some very memorable boss fights, and an appropriate level of challenge.

I really enjoyed the game. It's not for everyone, perhaps, but IMO it was pretty fun.

Transformers : Prelude to Energon was NOT representative for the Transformers franchise. It was a nice game, but to my humble opinion... i was slightly dissappointed.

Markus Windelen of Atari / Infogrames told me back than that they would make another TF game including multiplayer mode. That would have been great. Unfortunately Atari/Infogrames never announced another TF game....
