Rumor: Assassin's "confirmed" for 360 and PC [update 1]

A handful of European gaming sites (1, 2, 3), likely originating with French site Xbox-Gamer.net, have "confirmed" that the mystery of Assassin's Creed's exclusivity has been solved: it will be making it's way to both the Xbox 360 and PC, as well as the previously announced PS3 ...

... at least, according to an off the record comment (where's the reps name?) made to Xbox-Gamer.net at the recent IDEF 2006 expo held in Cannes. There was no information regarding any timed exclusivity for Sony's console. We all have our suspicions (hence the mystery) regarding Assassin's Creed's multi-platform prospects, but an unsourced comment made by a random Ubisoft representative is hardly confirmation (we've contacted Ubisoft for official confirmation). Until it shows up here (which it hasn't) we're enormously skeptical. And we dance ...

[Update 1: PS3Land points us to the Ubi forums, where UK Community Manager UbiRazz writes, "Ubisoft have confirmed no such thing. Assassin's Creed will come on PlayStation 3 and at this time, no other platform has been confirmed." Funny enough, PS3Land headlined their post, "Ubisoft: Assassin's Creed Still PS3 Exclusive." The way I see it, if the PS3 had this game as an exclusive, they would be shouting it from the roof tops. It would be much better than some of the crap they share with us lately.

Well given the comments of the head of Ubisoft, I don't think any of us are surprised by this. While it hasn't been confirmed, I think that Assassin's Creed will be on the 360. Hmmm will VF5 be next....

Yay, even less of a reason for me to blow $600 on a PS3 this winter. Though I will try to get at least 1 or 2 for eBay.

I will own one eventually, but the longer my wallet doesnt have to take a hit the better. Of course as soon as the MLB 07' is released on the PS3 I am sold, the 2K sports one is just too craptacular for words.

Of course this can all be taken as just a rumor, since if it were true, UbiSoft would just say so, and not be so commentless towards this ongoing debate.

dudes and dudettes, all PS3 titles will come to Xbox 360 eventually.

Not unless there IS some sort of agreement being worked out, and things can not be commented upon until all legal documents are taken care of.

I dont think Ubisoft would make AC an exclusive for PS3, given the long relationship they've had with Micrsoft. Look at all the smash hits they've had with the orignal Xbox: Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, Rainbox 6, Ghost Recon, to name a few..
However i do look forward to the PS3 i try to keep my posts un-biased but i have to admit the PS3's Future is looking grim.
Through bad marketing especially the comments Sony made that they dont need GTA is getting Developers to have a different view on Sony..

M$, koff!] And M$ has the added advantage of having the biggest balls on the block in the PC realm as well; therefore expect some outstanding PC ports to show as well! God I hope this game makes it to 360. It's the only game the PS3 holds over me. If it does end up being a PS3 exclusive I will cry. I don't wanna spend +600 dollars to play this game, but I just might.

Yikes. I don't mean the PS3 any ill will - the more competition the better - but this is another good title that they won't get an exclusive for.

Some fanboy will post how Joystiq hates Sony and Joystiq was somehow responsible for PS3 losing this exclusive. Wait for it...

At last years E3 at the Sony press confrence they spent alot of time on Fight Night ROund 3. At no time did EA say anything about it comming to the 360. It was not until several months later when the game was about to ship/ seller hype was ramping up, that EA anounced the game was for both systems.
Its in UB's best intrest to play coy on this matter. It keeps the game on the lips and minds of gammers. Its whats called free press.

Well, we all know that this game was running off a PC when shown at E3. It would therefore make a lot of sense for Ubisoft to release a PC version (and a 360 version, which would be easily ported from the PC version).

Yep Without assassin's creed.... not only will PS3 fail but so will Wii... since it doesn't ahve it either!

As far as I know, this list hasn't been wrong yet, it says Assassin's Creed will come out on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC, PSP, and I believe it.

@18 it was running off of a PC so the idea that assaisins creed being on the 360 is not that much of a leap. This is one less reason for me to blow $600+ on a PS3

Well, I read somewhere that it was just a rumor that it was running on the 360, and that someone confirmed that it was running on a PC. Sorry, no link, as I can't remember where I read this.

Until Microsoft officially anounces it, we shouldn't assume it will be on the 360...

Damn, that leaves Heavenly Sword and Virtua Fighter as reasons to buy PS3. Not only that, but Gears of War is a reason to buy 360.

I reckon there is an offer for exclusivity from Sony on the table but Ubisoft are waiting to see if Sony get the PS3 out on time and in enougth numbers and it sales enougth.

I mean as a publisher i'd never agree to an exclusive deal without knowing what sort of numbers i'd be tieing myself into

I've lost interest in metal gear after the second one and never liked turned based rpgs. and everyone knows theres going to be a big shortage of great first person shooters on Xbox 360. SOOOOOOOO GODSPEED HEAVENLY SWORD!!!!!!

If I were Ubisoft, I'd be trying to make this game work on EVERYTHING. It's the hottest name they have coming, and they should be trying to make it available to everybody and their pets. I really wouldn't even be all that stunned if a Wii port came out -- lower the texture quality and maybe cut out a few poly's -- you'd probably be hard pressed to notice during actual gameplay.

Though (oddly enough) the 'standard' Wii controller setup would be the least suited for the game, based on what I know. For those unaware, the X button does something with your legs, S and O does something with your arms, and T uses your brain, IIRC. That diamond pattern is crucial to the intuitive and innovative control.

My buddy Bob, an executive over at Ubisoft, actually confirmed to me that the game was running on a Commodore 64 at E3 and that the planned systems it will be released on include the Atari 2600.

Great!! I was really interested in this game and now I'll get to play it as I'm not planning on getting a PS3 for quite a while. haha

Nowhere in the actual statement does it say exclusivity. Like the general consensus, I believe that if Sony had indeed scored this title exclusively, they would let everyone from Antarctica to the nether regions of the Amazon know. And yet here we are, and never has the word "exclusive" ever been uttered by neither Ubisoft or Sony.

Ubisoft let everyone think Splinter cell would be xbox exclusive. and let xbox fanboys hype it, then later ported it to other systems, even Gamecube.

I bet their doing the sane thing here.

Again this was proven to be false, wait for an updated post in less than an hour. If you want Assasins Creed that bad then just get a PS3. This game is not meant for the lowly 360 it just can't handle it.

This is Ubisoft we're talking about. Lately they've been following EA's tactics on releasing every game they produce to every console. I couldn't find the link for it, but the 360 version is already well into the development stages (don't know about the Wii/PC). This thing is like a merry-go-round. Why can't they just confirm it already? Most everybody knows it's coming out for the Xbox 360. There's no way this game is going to be a PS3 exclusive. Ubisoft KNOWS that if they wouldn't bring this game to the 360, they'd be losing a good amount of profits from it.

The whole, 'at this time' seems to imply at a later time it'll be available for other platforms.

Prince of Persia was not an Xbox exlusive. The Prince of Persia games all came out on all platforms including PC simultaneously. And all the other games you listed were Tom Clancy games. So, the thing is, it really has nothing to do with "Ubisoft and Microsoft", it has to do with Tom Clancy and Microsoft. Apparently.

Probably because Sony has already declared PS3 to be some unstoppable supercomputer and it's not out yet. Or even capable of running many software titles. I'm just waiting for them to say that the reason the PS3 has been delayed so long is because someone could use it to hack government supercomputers and launch spaceshuttles into orbit using Cell's unmatched, uncomparable, undescribable, unbelievable, otherworldly, god-like power. (Remember, the PS2 could apparently be used to launch nuclear missiles if properly disassembled...but it can't run Halo though...) Its quite easy to be totally against a console that isn't out yet when the company that makes it is ready to call you a blind idiot who will buy it when it comes out even if they don't make any games for it. I don't know about you sir, but if I see the ball coming, I dodge it BEFORE it gets to me. But you feel free to take one in the face, or more appropriately here, in the wallet, if you would like to.

Let's not get all sensitive. I don't really care how confident the sony executives are about their product. As long as they deliver a good gaming and entertainment experience I will purchase their product. Honestly, I don't see why everyone is in such an uproar about the PS3. If you enjoy the games that come out for the console, then buy the system. If it's priced above your gaming budget, then look at the other options. I'm starting to think that people are just pissed becaused when they look at the other options, they are scared they will end up with a machine that flops. The current XBOX360 owners don't like how the sales of their console is looking right now, Wii consumers are trying to figure out whether or not the remote will pan out or if they'll have to get an additional console. It's just like every new console generation, people and analysts have no real information to go on, so they just start fabricating stories to force companies to spill the beans. Let's all just settle down and wait for what looks like a great holiday season for everyone.

All it takes is one exclusive game and the haters come out of the woodwork. Has anyone seen the "Improve MGS4" club at 1up.com (http://improvemgsonline-club.1up.com)? It has turned into the most ridiculous console/porting argument I have ever seen. The club was created to improve MGS4, and apprently the xbox fanboys think that porting it is the only improvement.

Learn to shut the hell up about this ridiculousness. As for now AC (this acronym should be used EXCLUSIVELY for armored core, but i'll let it slide now)is only coming out for ps3 for now. Exclusives happen ALL THE TIME... LEARN TO DEAL. You can't expect Ubisoft to have to bust their ass for you all the time and spend time and money overworking programmers to port a game for a console that, as far as i know, works COMPLETELY different. We already know that porting will be hard in this gen, so for the sake of the developers shut it. You can all jump for joy when your precious "GEARS OF WAR" comes out on 360 only.
