Sensible World of Soccer considered for XBLA
Codemasters, owners of the Sensible World of Soccer (SWOS) license, is reportedly considering a port of this classic 'football' title for Xbox Live Arcade. Sensible Software's beloved SWOS, which debuted for Amiga & DOS in 1994, was intended to be an unlockable in Codemasters' mediocre release, Sensible Soccer 2006, but ended up a no-show in the final version. While Codemasters readily admits, "Live Arcade is a platform we're evaluating certainly," the company is still trying to gauge the demand for a re-release.

Can't wait to buy it in 2009. You know...the time it'll take to get through the Certification process.

nobody cares, there's your "guage" idiots
Exile @ Jul 5th 2006 7:19PM
lol@Kirk,seriously though this would be amazing, while your at it codies how about treasure island dizzy?
toper @ Jul 5th 2006 7:19PM
Well, if codemasters had half a brain, they would have looked into releasing this BEFORE this year's World Cup (you know, when interest in soccer is at its HIGHEST)...now they gotta wait 4 more years before interest peaks again (in the US, anyways).

Exile: You can download Treasure Island Dizzy from the Codemasters website for free, you just need to create an account.

I would download this game for sure, but im guessing that there will be more demand for it in the UK and other European countries rather than the US. Bring it on i say :D
Styki @ Jul 5th 2006 9:30PM
I agree with toper. Now is a little too late to be in the process of "considering" whether or not to bring the game to XBLA. If they'd been on the ball, they would have got this game on XBLA at least a month ago. They probably would have made a killing. while the title may sell relatively well in Europe any time of the year, they certainly missed their window in the U.S.

Meh.
If Tecmo Super Bowl comes out on XBLA, I'm sold. Other than that, I don't have much interest.

Yeh bring it on it would be amazing with a multiplayer mode over XBL, i loved playing this game on my amiga and i would welcome a return of it

SWOS is probably my favourite game of all time - and I'm not the only one.
I played this game for something like five years after the last iteration was released - there are still thousands of people all over Europe that play it today.
It would definitely sell incredibly well here in the UK and Europe - absolutely no question - there's no need for an evaluation there.
I don't think you guys in the US will see the attraction - but if there is going to be a cheap footy game on XBLA then one of the best ever would be a good place to start.

SWOS... I spent more time on this game than any other in my amiga days and I don't even like football. I say bring it on!!!
andyr @ Jul 6th 2006 8:48AM
I was always more of a Kick-off fiend than a Sensi-guy. But both games were able to create their own little moments of footballing magic.
I remember many nights passed playing Kick-off into the wee hours.
It would be great to play these over XBox Live. I've tried a variety of emulators (kalliera clients) to play over the net but none have really cut it.
My most wanted live arcade games: Bobble Bubble, Rainbow Islands, Parasol Stars. Also a decent pinball implementation (we never got Pure Pinball in the UK).
waldopepper @ Jul 6th 2006 9:42AM
Thanks ronnie but I fear you're going to fall well and truely into the 'idiot' group once you see how many people would LOVE to see this on Live Arcade. Count me in too.
Rare Hare @ Jul 6th 2006 1:23PM
"I don't think you guys in the US will see the attraction"
Yeah, because the US doesn't have a soccer team and we don't understand the concept of "fun". Give me a break, man.
Just because we have other sports and soccer happens to not be in the top 3 popular in the country, doesn't mean we're completely blind to appreciation of it. Quite the contrary, as it tends to be Europeans who are so rabidly opposed to American sports, such as baseball, basketball, and American football.

Comradetrotskii : Yeah i'm aware of this im just lazy and would rather recline in my lovely leather chairs with a brew and a (must i say extremely ergonomically designed, shame about the d pad being a spongey mother...)wireless pad(yes i still get 'phantom wire syndrome' but its far better than knocking shit over and when pets race past)on a nice large tv than hunch over my computer desk on a nice but small in comparison tft screen, that and i'm an achievement whore lol :p Sort it out M$(that right fanboys?)the arcade is a marvellous tool and personally i think the ease of online distribution has the potential(stay away from your potential kids-you'll only be disappointed) to be a deciding factor in who claims top spot in the next gen race, come on lets see the dizzy's,bart vs the space mutants, syndicate, paperboy(what happened to that?),bomberman(best multiplayer game ever? imagine the saturn version over xbox live?-i'd quit my job tomorrow...)flashback,streetfighter 2(i'm beginning to think it's all a wind up),super off road(ironman stewarts approval or not fuck it that game rules)bionic commando,r-type,megaman jeez the list is endless for christ sake... microsoft need to pull their fingers out and release some quality arcade titles-if only as a stopgap until some triple A releases surface(Prey demo makes me moist, roll on next week =)I dont care about the 'certification process'thats a lame excuse, tell the truth for fucks sake, its because its weak online and that,to most of us is the main appeal...how powerful are microsoft??? No way does it take that long to put out a classic title on your own machine, not with a bank balance that expansive..roll on the wii :p
