Star Fox DS details surface
Eurogamer is reporting that the upcoming Star Fox Command for the Nintendo DS will include rumble functionality when it hits our shores on August 28. According to the latest Japanese mag Famitsu, players can now enjoy that same shaky feeling they had in Metroid Pinball or Warioware Twisted on 30 different stages in Star Fox. Something else to look forward to is the game's multiplayer aspects. Star Fox will take full use of Nintendo's super sweet Wi-Fi connection and give wannabe pilots the ability to battle each other four at a time -- ad hoc players can take on as many as 8 at a time.
This game can't come fast enough. It's getting a little tiring just beating little noobs on Tetris every night.

Now I REALLY want that Lite Rumble Pak, $25 for importing may be worth it after all. Too bad it's looking like another case of Play-yan, where a US version will never be released.
Anyone else have the Lite Rumble Pak? Is it any good compared to the original DS Rumble Pak? Any better/less chirpy?
Animagnum @ Jul 6th 2006 12:13PM
You can purchase a stand-alone DS rumble pak at GameStop for $99.99. Yes, that's $99.99 unless you buy it with Metroid Prime Hunters or buy Metroid Pinball (which already comes with it).
Probot @ Jul 6th 2006 12:17PM
#2, Are you sure it's not $9.99 like it is online at Nintendo's store?
You can get both DS Lite and DS Rumble Packs for $10 at Nintendo's online store.

he said a LITE rumble pack. Its a different size. The regular rumble pack juts out of the ds.
Eric @ Jul 6th 2006 12:22PM
#3, the Nintendo store says it has both the DS Lite and DS Hueg rumble packs, but the pictures for both of them are the same, so I'm kinda worried about buying one from there.
VaultedCeilings @ Jul 6th 2006 12:23PM
Thought it wasn't mentioned here, when I read this article at GoNintendo it said they were going to ship the game with the rumble, like they did in the days of 64. So I would hold onto your money until we hear more from Nintendo.
striderhayasa @ Jul 6th 2006 12:46PM
blah blah blah...*8 player LAN and 4 player Wifi...It's bought
epobirs @ Jul 6th 2006 12:51PM
It would be a terrible thing if this game didn't have rumble, just from a historical perspective.
wakusei @ Jul 6th 2006 12:51PM
The price tag on the Rumble Pak in Gamestop/EB is indeed $99.99...nothing like a $90.00 markup to make some profit. Has anyone actually purchased one of these in a brick-and-mortar store?
It would be interesting to hear the logic behind the high price.
carlos @ Jul 6th 2006 12:54PM
no u cant probot u cant get the ds lite rumble pak
carlos @ Jul 6th 2006 12:57PM
http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802321 no its only 9.99 on the internet
wakusei @ Jul 6th 2006 1:12PM
Very odd...just spoke with someone at the local EB and the price is $49.99 for the Rumble Pak. And that's AFTER telling them their webpage lists the item for $9.99! They thought it was "some sort of special in the webpage".
I somehow doubt it...I love the talking heads at those retails shops. They had no information as to why the price was $40.00 more in stores.
dapperdan @ Jul 6th 2006 1:13PM
it's 99.99 because we are not supposed to sell it. case in point...when someone trades in a 360 hard drive, or psp mem, the price becomes 999.99. we have to ship it back to the warehouse so it can be formatted to protect against unlawful content. the 99.99 price tag just reminds the employees that it is a free give-away not to be sold.
wakusei @ Jul 6th 2006 1:17PM

Are you at an EB or a Gamestop? Both locations in my town regularly shelve the item!
dapperdan @ Jul 6th 2006 1:19PM
from gamestop originally but promoted to eb store manager. there was an in-house e-mail specifically stating do not sell these. they are gifts when buying metroid prime: hunters and/or pinball. i know pinball already comes with it, but some reason the stopped packing all of them with it recently. maybe a warehouse mishap, who knows.
dapperdan @ Jul 6th 2006 1:21PM
too many typos...sorry
wakusei @ Jul 6th 2006 1:41PM
Curious...but thanks for the info. I remember seeing the price and being shocked!
And much like epobirs, I agree. The pack-in with StarFox 64 was a great deal and it helped make the game fun! That thing shook like CRAZY when you got hit.

You can find the Rumble Pack for the DS on Nintendo's online store:
http://store.nintendo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&langId=-1¤cy=USD&ignoreCrumbs=N&crumb1=%253CA%2BHREF%253D%2522javascript%253APassOn%2528%2527X%2527%252C%2B%2527SearchView%2527%252C%2527X%2527%252C%2B%2527Y%2527%2529%253B%2522%253ESearch%2BResults%253C%252FA%253E&crumb1Ignore=&crumb2=&crumb2Ignore=&crumb3=&crumb3Ignore=&translateFrom=%C8%C9%C7&translateTo=EEC&usrSearchText=rumble&searchText=RUMBLE&selSrchType=&page=&view=&productId=95204&categoryId=62209&lastAction=ProductDisplay&orderTotal=null
Problem is: they list the same item both as the DS Lite and normal DS rumble pack. They don't actually sell the smaller version for the DS Lite that they have in Japan (even though it's listed as the DS Lite Rumble pack).
VAStateOfMind @ Jul 6th 2006 2:06PM
Hmmmm....you don't suppose that Nintendo would be so nice and willing as to accept my current older DS Rumble Pak for a new DS Lite Rumble Pak, would they? On an unrelated note, did anyone else take advantage this past holiday weekend of the deal at EB Games where they gave an *extra* $20 credit on top of the current $40 trade-in value of the older DS? Trading in my original DS (along with copies of Polarium and Puyo Pop Fever) netted me a DS Lite for around $50 -- not great, but not bad either.
OldElvis @ Jul 6th 2006 2:28PM
Exactly what I want. Something that makes a $150 piece of electronics a little harder to hold onto.
Woody @ Jul 6th 2006 2:53PM
I am so stoked for this game, the biggest problem I'm having with my Lite is that I need a good carrying case for the system and my dozen games (+1 for Star Fox, +1 for Mana, +1 for FF3, +1 for Zelda . . .)
GSI @ Jul 6th 2006 3:04PM
@ Woody:

I have one (but in white) and I'm able to comfortably and safely carry 9 DS games in it.
Woody @ Jul 6th 2006 3:16PM
you put 9 games AND the DS Lite in there?
GSI @ Jul 6th 2006 3:28PM
Oh...no no. Just the games. I haven't found a case that holds the DS Lite, a bunch of games AND is comfortable. I just carry my DS Lite in its own pouch and the games in the case I showed earlier.
elmer @ Jul 6th 2006 6:58PM
What's your tetris score?
Between my Girlfriend and I, we're nearly to the 7000 range (I am awaiting the day we're acknowledged elite - it almost happened yesterday). She's dropping my 6915 score down to 6600's as we speak.
Rare Hare @ Jul 7th 2006 2:18AM
Wow. Between this, LoZ: PH, FF3, etc. it looks like my DS is gonna be getting a lot of love soon (not to mention I haven't even bought Mario Kart or New Super Mario Bros. OR Brain Age yet).
Tell me.. while my wallet is taking a hit anyway, is the DS Lite really worth the money if i already have a normal old one? I noticed when testing one out that the screen feels a tab flimsy and the d-pad isn't as satisfying, but is the slylish sleekness and brighter screen enough to cancel those setbacks back and lay down some cash for a Lite?
Woody @ Jul 7th 2006 11:13AM
"is the DS Lite really worth the money if i already have a normal old one? "
Yes. Period. I love the smaller form factor and the screens are dramatically better. There has been some disput as to the speakers but for me, they sound better and clearer.
On your comment of the D-Pad, maybe its my preference, but I find it MUCH better, as well as the buttons. The only thing I have found as a negative is that the old one had a better touch screen response (seems more granular)
teknotom @ Jul 8th 2006 2:19PM
Can you get the Lite Rumble Pak in the UK yet? Or the regular one for that matter? I can't say I've ever seen it here...
