French developer Arkane Studios (Arx Fatalis) has announced the opening of a new office in Austin, Texas where they will focus on finishing Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Speaking with GameSpot, Arkane founder Raphael Colantonio mentions Austin's rich developer talent and competitive labor costs as being key factors in their decision to open a second studio. He also hints at a possible MMO in the company's future.

Dude, thats awesome as i live in Austin. Maybe this could be another step into Austin becoming an major gaming city. Let's hope.

Coldgamr: There's been quite a few huge game development shops here in Austin. More than you'd probably think.
I use to work in the Origin building off 360 near the river.

That's awesome, I work right next door to their current office. :) I guess this means they're opening up another office somewhere else because their current office is tiny. It's funny, I always knew they were a game company, but never knew what exactly they did. Now I know!

Wow. Yeah man, Austin's already a major game city, past and present. Ion, Retro, Midway, Junction Point, Sony, Grind, Breakaway, Origin, NCSoft, Aspyr, Bioware, and the list goes on.
I moved from Austin's huge industry to San Francisco. Lots of options in both cities.
