GameCity - not your typical games conference
In late October, Nottingham will play host to a unique interactive entertainment festival, as the English city is transformed into "GameCity" for five days. Based on three themes - "play", "talk", and "touch" - GameCity will unite game enthusiasts and industry professionals through a series of workshops and cultural events that showcase the power of gaming. According to event director Iain Simons, "GameCity will entertain, inform and educate individuals, industry and the public sector on the value and the potential of interactive entertainment for everyone." Visit the official site for more details. It would be really cool if they used the famous caves beneath the city for some RPG-style activities. I hear there's some good leather armor and ale down there.

Hey, speaking of game conferences, there is one in austin, texas. There are going to be lots of keynotes and workshops for professionals and students. Its kind of like the GDC. Michael Dell has a keynote there and so does Rob Pardo VP of Game Design Blizzard Entertainment and lead designer of World of Warcraft which many are speculating could see a jump to consoles. And Blizzard recently had opened posted a job search for game designers. So I dont know if you guys might have any interest in this. I live in Austin but I cant afford the admission. A bunch of other big names will be there like EA. Here is the website.

If they utilized the caves to make a live action Zelda dungeon, I would be on a plane right now to make sure I missed none of it.

When I hear "Game City" my brain reacts much like Homer Simpson's when he hears Germany is the "Land of Chocolate."
