You know, as much as we don't want to get our hopes up for an early launch, evidence continues to mount that we might be seeing the Wii a little sooner than expected. Two reports have trickled in: first, ATI has reported increased demand from Nintendo for the specialized graphics chips designed exclusively for the Wii. This itself doesn't mean much: demand has to go up when the previous amount desired was nil. Still, pair it with this second tidbit: Pixart Imaging, supplying the technology for remote sensing in the controller, has told a Chinese newspaper that it expects to ship one million units in August alone. That's a lot of silicon. We're looking at two scenarios: an earlier launch date, or a larger supply at launch. Still, Nintendo knows the importance of beating Sony to market, and a little shortage at launch is desirable for a must-have machine. 360, we're looking at you.
